Before I saw that he posted it, I was also on the McChrystal bandwagon that Deepdiver brought up. He'd spoken glowingly of McChrystal in his speeches (obliquely) and he seems like the kind of guy that Trump would want at his side.

I should add that that's my guess *now* after assuming it'd be Cruz or maybe Carson (can't remember). DD made the guess four months ago, so he da real MVP.

I think Trump goes with a (non-captured) veteran as his VP choice. Clearly Trump is very pro-veteran and this move would lock up the military vote.
I wonder if he'd go with Jim Webb. In the first democratic debate, Webb was pretty awesome, but unfortunately is not nearly left enough to be considered a democrat anymore.

Not Trolling Gmac. Trump actually stated that he would like Oprah as running mate. I didn't make this up, please read the article I linked to. Perhaps it's the Don who is doing the trolling.

I'm gonna go with Christie since no one else has, hopefully I'm wrong. I like Carson but I think he would be better for other positions. What do you guys think of Rand Paul as a VP?

Dispenses - for you
"“He said that as a joke,” Trump said. “All of a sudden, they say, Donald wants Oprah. Give me a break.”
Trump is doing the Trolling not me. All I did was a Google search on Trump VP. I'm from the UK. I've heard of Oprah Winfrey but I'm not sure exactly who she is other than being a TV celebrity.

Trump can pick his VP from 1. business 2. military 3. politics.
Considering he is a businessman himself, with much executive experience but little political experience, he's likely to pick a politician as a right-hand man. Someone who knows how things work and who knows everybody that's a somebody. Trump has said as much before.
Businessmen like Carl Icahn and Mark Cuban are great to have on your team but at different positions. Politicians should have the roles that are excellent for politicians, but currently they also get rewarded for their loyalty with positions that require expertise they don't have. Trump being beholden to no one means he can pick the right people for those spots, including business mavericks and financial strongmen. Hope he can control a guy like Icahn.
Military guys, if they already have gained political experience, could work. In any scenario, he should get them for other key positions. With Sessions on national security, and top military guys advising him, that's a powerful front. This is especially important considering the recent purges of good men by the Obama administration. The military has been slowly destroyed from within and that must have caused a lot of resentment from the good people. If Trump can restore that, and have their trust, he wins.
As for politicians, indeed someone from the South (but I don't really understand what you guys mean with South because it's not all places in the Southern part of the country for some reason). Kris Kobach could also work.

To be honest I have a feeling its going to be Marco Rubio believe it or not.
Trump says he wants someone who is very political contrast to him. If he can convince Marco to take his stance on immigration, I honestly believe it will be him. I know for a fact is either going to be Rubio or Cruz no matter how much bad blood they've thrown at each other at the debates.
Trump needs a moderate who will desperately get him some independent votes. The base is already there for him. Rubio is the best choice.

@Eastside
If that's the case then Cruz would be the logical pick. A strong conservative candidate who would solidify the conservative base.
A Trump/Cruz ticket would win in a general. A Trump/Rubio ticket would win too.

A Trump/Rubio ticket would destroy the campaign because Trump's whole point was to be less concerned about political picks and more concerned about picking the right guy. Rubio as running mate would be like a betrayal since that guy is a slimy little puppet for the status quo. He's exactly what people are revolting against and has no base.
Trump/Cruz could be smart. I wouldn't like it, but it could be smart. Better at another spot though.
It seems likely that Trump will not need to make any such concessions if he gets the required delegates.
