The Star Wars thread

I posted this in the deep forum 'force awakens' thread:

I follow and pay close attention to film media and film making and as such its become very annoying to see how much Hollywood has resorted in pushing its Feminist and PC agendas.

Though Im not that big fan of Star Wars ,I have watched the movies when I was young and have known people who are really into it. I also understand the cultural impact and the revolution in cinema that Star Wars brought.

First of all when Lucas sold the film making rights to Disney ,that itself should have been a major red flag considering the kind of movies Disney has been recently making.

Secondly ,when John Boyega, a black actor, was cast as 'Finn' and as the lead, I thought it would be interesting and gave the benefit of doubt that the actor was picked on merit.
But when the trailers came out and the story started to reveal more , the Force Awakens started to look more and more as a Hollywood PC Agenda piece .

Finn is NOT the main lead.He is among the main characters. But its the Female (Rey) who is the Main Lead. She will be the one who will take out the Main Villain .Just look at the poster for proof.
Finn is a Beta dude in the movie who will follow the Girl's lead . Want further proof?

Watch this :

This shows Finn will be your usual bumbling ,dependent ,learning to be strong on the go dude with some comic relief while Rey will show strength , assertiveness and independence. 'Girrrlll power' will be at its best.

There is also the pilot 'Poe' played by a good actor in Oscar Isaac.

Gentlemen , I can already see Disney making a side plot that will be inspired by the 'twilight' type romance but with a twist that Rey is not damsel in distress and instead is the heroic badass vowed by the 'nice guy' Finn and pseudo cool Poe.

Oh and to top it there are rumors that the only 'manly' dude Han Solo will die in the first movie. And if he doesnt then it will be his sidekick 'Chewbacca'.

Its as if there is no place in big films to have strong independent heroic badass male Characters anymore.

But there is ample place for them to be the villains.
The main villain 'Kylo' is a tall white dude with idealistic issues. He has a lot of 'anger' in him and vows to continue the dark ideology.

Ofcourse Kylo has a strong female by his side too; 'Capt. Phasma' will be played by Gwendoline Christie who was especially chosen because she kicked lots of Male ass in Game of Thrones.
Ill tell you now , she will be there for the next movie too or even all three movies. She will be the ultimate side bad ass ,kicking everyone's butt left right centre. She will be the villain that the audience 'loves' . She would be either stopped by multiple men or by beta Finn who will get the beat down from her but somehow manage to be 'lucky' to stop her and her death will be a bad ass warriors death.

I just laugh at How plain can it get in terms of PC and Feminist Agendas.

But still , why the sudden overdose in Star Wars?
There might be a reason. At least for Star Wars there might be :
[Image: kathleen-kennedy-star-wars-7-jj-abrams.jpg]

Kathleen Kennedy , who started out as Spielberg's secretary , has gone into feminist overdrive after becoming the President of LucasFilms during Disney's takeover.
The other Star Wars movie coming out , the stand alone one ,also has a female lead as the hero.
Moreover ,Kathleen recently said she wants Female Directors for future Star Wars movies :
http://www.businessinsider.com/star-wars...or-2015-12

Its straight up absolutely annoying agenda pushing.

Lastly , Star Wars when it came out was the quintessential Boys Fantasy Movie. What Phoenix said in his post is correct. The three main male characters in new hope represented what boys desired to be. It was a central theme to the movie and the series.

And now people are even denying that . The Director JJ Abrams said somewhat the same and immediately caused an uproar among the Feminists .The SJWs made him apologize :

http://deadline.com/2015/12/jj-abrams-ex...201653533/

How many females actually watched star wars and gave it the legs for it to become the phenomena it is?How many?
I bet the answer hugely pales in comparison to the number of males.

Its surprising how many current male fans can be fine with this as there is not much uproar.Even Mad Max,a movie with significantly less following, had more uproar.

They need to realize that this movie was made for only 2 purposes :1. Guzzle money out of mindless sheep 2. make those mindless sheep adhere to its social agenda.

By the way, who is this "Boyega" and how did he get cast for a major role in one of the biggest movie franchises with virtually no name recognition?

Star Wars Is Garbage

' The Alliance is a ragtag band of fighters from many different cultures bonded together by a hatred of the Empire, fighting an asymmetric
war resulting in massive collateral damage and loss of civilian life. They take their lead from mystics hiding in caves and swamps, and
want to return the galaxy to a primitive religion that hasn’t changed for 600 years. That’s right nerds: the Rebel Alliance is ISIS. '

' The Jedi are a typical wishy-washy Mother Gaia-style progressive cult. Their most obvious failing is not using the real Force powers.
Force lightning is actually quite humane; it’s like hitting a bad guy with a taser instead of cutting him in half with a lightsabre. '

' Speaking of Leia, a straight white princess murdering a minority businessman with no repercussions is the ultimate example of white privilege. '

There are billboards up all around L.A. promoting the movie. One features a close-up of Carrie Fisher's face. Granted she looks much better than I've seen her look in recent years — but still, do we really need to see Princess Leia as an... ahem... "mature" woman?

Last time we saw her she was rocking the iconic metal bikini. Why not leave it at that? Go out on a high note.

(And for what it's worth, from what I've seen in the trailers, Han Solo looks like a craggy old guy who doesn't especially want to be in the movie, wearing the same clothes & driving the same ship he had back in '83.)

Then again, the first prequel took it upon itself to show us Darth Vader as a little child.

The funniest thing will be the realization that Lucas fleeced Disney for so much money and they in turn couldnt produce a coherent movie sequel WITH the original cast. Fucking hilarious.

Star Wars will make money, because it is Star Wars. Women will see it because they're going to follow the crowd. The nerds will see it because it is STAR WARS!!

Meanwhile they're pushing their agenda. Science Fiction took a nose dive of epic proportions when they decided to be inclusive of females and feelings. Watch modern sci-fi and count the time dedicated to talking, feelings and female empowerment across multiple female characters.

The last great Sci-fi series for me was Stargate SG-1. Every other sci-fi has reduced action, reduced male heroic characters and their humour. All of this is due to the hollywood elite pushing for women and feelings in the genre.

TV and movies make me depressed these days. You have a good plot and its ruin cause they have to play the feminist card.

1. Strong hero woman (broken woman)
2. Beta/gama male (broken man)

3. Strong man that shows muscular characteristics are usually killed off in the next scene. If he speaks back at a woman, he will die in the most painful way possible even tho the woman character is treating the male character like shit all the time.

He starred in this in 2011:

Aliens invade council housing. The Critics loved it - 90% on Rotten Tomatoes - and praised the acting. I saw it, and didn't understand the acclaim for either movie and cast at all, but it was around the time I was starting to pick up increasing signs from the media of unconditional praise for anything that fits the narrative of marginalisation. By late 2012, it had completely-infected most review media, and I stopped reading reviews entirely, because they were functionally-useless.

There's a lot of 'acting against monsters that haven't been digitally-composited yet', so I can see why he would be cast in an effects-heavy film. Besides which, the last thing you want if you're casting an ongoing movie series is a powerful, demanding Movie Star. See Harrison Ford mentally-checking out throughout 'Return of the Jedi'.

Because the original star wars had no minority or black main characters save Lando Calrissian, and he was more of a secondary character.

It's part of political correctness in movies these days: More tough women, more minorities, and probably some bumbling, inept white guys (like many tv commercials these days ) , etc.

No issue here with a black guy being in the star wars movies per se - just answering your question.

Too bad they couldn't get Denzel or Wil Smith.

+1 to this, SG1 hasn't had a parallel since it was released (the spin-offs weren't as good). The entire series is available free on Amazon Prime if you're looking to re-watch it.

Further to SG-1, it did have a strong female character in Samantha Carter. But she was action-oriented, no real focus on feelings and feeling development except you saw the under-current for her love of O'Neil, both as a man and leader. 3 men, 1 woman. They did it with Atlantis and it worked.

They went for Stargat galaxy or w.e it was and went with bullshit mini-stories of people you didn't care about. No central male lead role was available, angst ridden men and women were the order of the day. Any strong character was demonised.

^ Yeah, Spectre was just a shit movie...

Regardless, I'm a bit confused if anyone would be willing to elaborate. What is the biggest beef here? Is it the perceived/predicted grrrl power? Is it a racist thing?

My biggest problem honestly is with the fact that Carrie Fisher was always a butterface, and now she's also fat.

The colour thing doesn't bother me much at all, nor the casting of unknowns: Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford had been in about one film each before getting the nod for Episode IV, and it was Carrie Fisher's first major film role at all. Lucas's theory has always been to cast a bunch of relative unknowns so the audience doesn't project their other roles onto them, with a few well-known character actors backing the unknowns. The same went for (Christ Almighty) Episode 1: Liam Neeson was meant to be the "known backbone" of the cast, and Ian McDiarmid (arguably the best continuing asset of the entire series) has been in five out of the six.

My concern over the female thing will be the extent to which they turn her into a superhero. Luke in the original films was a developing action hero, he was a genuine farmboy at the beginning and slowly matured into a warrior across three films. Rey, the female protagonist, looks more like a retired female badass - what with things we've been seeing including rappelling off mechanical cliffs and apparently wielding a fucking metal bo as a weapon - which strikes me as wrong, wrong, wrong if they're going to make it a story about her growing into a Jedi or some shit like that. Should it come to pass that she starts abruptly using Force powers somewhere during the film without any prior indication that she knows how to use them, I will, as Prince Humperdink says, "Be very put out."

They could produce something more creative.
A film noir type film, based around bounty hunters & alien organised crime thugs on a gritty world.
A war film depicting the Empire attacking one planet.

Yet instead, its the same tired format revolving around a freakin' jedi with his / her freakin' lightsaber,
along with a band of misfits against some grand adversary...

Haven't seen that one before... [Image: dodgy.gif]

Why the fuck does Hollywood want to ruin movies?!?! Ghostbusters, Mad Max and now my favourite Star Wars...

These always a good plot but they always bring in dysfunctional characters... a women that think she strong and a hero and a man that is still a child (beta/gamma).

What's next... K9 the movie where the dog meows and a cat becomes the hero and barks...

The sad part is no one wants to talk about it cause you're a hater and will be riduculed.

Im in the west for another 2 months and i feel like ive woken up in a nightmare everyday. These female bosses are horrible wherever i temp! Its like having a child as a boss where I have to fix all the problems that come up! They are always fat and depressed these women in boss roles!

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)

Rogue One is the first film in the Star Wars Anthology series, a collection of stand-alone stories set in the Star Wars universe. The story is set in between the events of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005) and Episode IV: A New Hope (1977), and centers on a group of rebel fighters who come together to carry out the mission of stealing the plans for the Death Star.

Untitled Han Solo Anthology film (2018)

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a Han Solo spin-off is in the works with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller directing.

Untitled Boba Fett Anthology Film (2020)

According to Kathleen Kennedy, a Boba Fett spin-off is in the works, reportedly being pushed to a 2020 release date.

There's basically going to be a Star Wars film every year. Every two years they will release a new film in the "main series" (Episode). In between those, they'll release spin-off films that are probably one off stories and not part of some continuing saga (A Star Wars Story).

Well, well. Maybe some creativity in the end.
Yet you'll note. These are still spin-offs of the original trilogy instead of wholly separate & new stories.
It's always about Vader / Solo / Skywalkers / Death Stars / Fetts.

I site the Knights of the Old Republic game series as an example.
Colourful & fully fleshed out characters that had nothing to do with the Lucas trilogy, story, characters or time frame.

Although KOTOR still had a freakin' Jedi & his light-saber as the central role. [Image: dodgy.gif]

Star wars will be the new Avengers for Disney. Since warner bros has anounced 10 DC comic movies(staring with Justice League), Disney will have hard time remaking all the avengers films to keep up.

The solution is re-creating a StarWars universe with a film for each character. Disney payed 4 billion and they probably won't get their money back till the 4th film. So you can be sure there will be many more after that.

This. Universe was almost unrecognisable as a StarGate series. It had none if the humour or any of the strong characters.

First world problem.

This would be appropriate if you were talking about Crossroads - a film about the blues in the Deep South that climaxes with a stand-off between two skinny white guys playing some of the whitest damn guitar y'ever did see.

Otherwise, why not cast the best actors for the characters regardless of what colour they are?
