Stunned doesnt necessarily means unconscious.
The first time I killed an animal I accidentally did it in halal style: piercing the throat instead of underneath as commanded by the butcher.
The scream the little goatling gave and how it bled to death as I tried to hold it as softly as I could was a clear example of how brutal this type of killing is.
One way or another the animal still gets killed, and I'll get to eat it regardless.
But halal is pretty nasty, imagine what happens when the throat is pierced.

I read somewhere that the whole point of halal killing is to flood the animal's body with adrenals and cortisol since the method of dying is terrifying. The poor animal watches itself slowly die.

I can attest there's something to this. I've felt something similar when I ate some buffalo steaks. I got really energized. Probably placebo for all I know.
