Testosterone can reshape structure of the brain

http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/2...e_way.html

"However much we’d like to think of gender as a social construct, science suggests that real differences do exist between female and male brains. The latest evidence: a first-of-its-kind European study that finds that the female brain can be drastically reshaped by treating it with testosterone over time. "

Into the best possible shape, I might add.

FYI. This is a research paper about female to male transsexuals.

Since it involves MRIs it is very important to look carefully at their methodology.

I'll leave it to someone else to explore.

If you're going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It's the only good fight there is.

Stopped right there. They admit their bias in the opener to the article!

Testosterone can reshape structure of the brain

Dutch and Austrian researchers found that an increase in this potent hormone led to shrinkage in key areas of the female (transitioning to male) brain associated with language.

So, having testosterone makes you less chatty? Groundbreaking...

A linked study in the article:

Quote:Quote:

Hoffman and an interpreter went to eight villages, some Khasi and some Karbi, and recruited 1,279 volunteers to complete a four-piece puzzle of a horse while being timed. All of the volunteers got a day's wages just for showing up; to motivate them, Hoffman offered another fifth of a day's wages if they completed the puzzle in less than 30 seconds.

The average was around 40 seconds - no kidding. How can it take 40 seconds to solve a four piece puzzle?

This isn't 'news'. Males go through two bursts of massive testosterone flows, puberty and the other when were in second trimester in utero.

It is known testosterone withers away the corpus callosum during this phase.

Anyone remember the picture a year or two ago about the connections of the brain? Heartiste meme'd it "wage gap explained". It was posted here, I think the study was dine by rajini vahma. It had women having more cross hemisphere kinks, men concentrated I each hemisphere but mire cerebral activity

Its actually intuitive to think of this in a holistic sense. Were all conceived as females, half of us become male. Testosterone kicks in blowing away the corpus callosum, the tissue that links the hemispheres of the brain. You'd expect this to impact on communication abilities.

This is widely accepted with women being communicators.

Most of this function though happens in the limbic part of the brain. As an adaptive measure, evolution then had men develop the cerebral part if the brain, higher order technical abilities, to compensate.

This is what this rajini vahma (sic) chart had shown. Men failing to have any abilities above and beyond women in a cerebral sense, are just women with poor communication skills. This explains men having a wider distribution IQ wise.

Autism and aspergers being more prevalent in older some, and more common in males can be explained by this. Too much testosterone in second trimester blows away too much of the corpus callosum. It also explains why many autists can have extraordinary cerebral abilities.

Guys on TRT cite thinking clearer, a thought bubble if mine, but it all fits.

Testosterone on the female brain is well known.

Or to put it another way: "However much liberals don't believe in science..." I need to start making a list of this stuff.

They're so close to something profound and they won't say it. If testosterone has such a profound effect on the brain and male-to-female transsexuals have brains more like women, then why not give men with gender dysphoria testosterone? Make their brains match their sex and they'll probably get closer to normal than trying to make their bodies match their underdeveloped brains.

That's actually a brilliant idea, and according to the study, it would most likely cure these sick men. However, it would never be accepted as these men aren't 'sick'...
