Did the Van for a year.
Vastly better gas mileage and more low-key for biz meetings, etc than a RV In doing so, I paid off all debt and used my 247 gym membership far more, due to it also being my shower. Was fed up with staring at 4 walls in an overpriced apt, which was making me ultra-lazy.
Car camping at national forest can be 2 week stints for free, so I was living by fresh mountain rivers - generally my quality of life went above most everyone I knew. I spending time in coffeeshops/library which equated to getting some real work done. Absolutely no problem sleeping in Walmarts and the occasional crash in friends driveways.
Not for everyone, but having a smaller space forces you to throw out useless stuff and really prioritize to the extreme. I then sold my van and bought a one way ticket to Italy for $25. That was yet another downsizing and now I live out of a 44L backpack - never been so content. The only thing I buy now is ultralight titanium EDC gear
