Another rape allegation 16 years later

Nebraska football coach Mike Riley and his former school, Oregon State, face a federal Title IX lawsuit filed by a woman who said she was raped as a result of the coach's failure to correct a sexually violent culture in the program, according to a report by The Oregonian.

The woman said she was raped by a player's cousin in October 1999 as a freshman at Oregon State.

Riley coached the San Diego Chargers in 1999 but led the program at Oregon State in 1997 and 1998 and from 2003 to 2014. He was hired at Nebraska in November and is set to coach his first game at the school Saturday.

Of all the frivolous rape cases that are posted on this board, this one has to be up there in terms of being the most ridiculous.
  • The head coach being sued wasn't even coaching during the time of the alleged incident.
  • The person who allegedly committed the rape wasn't even on the team. He just had a cousin who played.

Despite the media's ever-present bias in reporting, there are rules about filing frivolous lawsuits. Would an attorney actually take a case leading to likely sanctions? not to mention countersuits?

From my observations and experience over the year, as long as the firm gets paid in advance, yes, they would take the case.

Never pressed criminal charges? Interesting. I am struggling to figure out her motivations.
