Why is there no major Euro-summer party spot in Italy?

Why is there no major Euro-summer party spot in Italy?

There are a lot of summer party destinations in the Mediterranean;

Ibiza/Magaluf/Canaries in Spain

Crete/Ios/etc in Greece

Hvar in Croatia

Cyprus, Malta, etc...

Why is there no major party city/destination along these lines in Italy? It's one of the most visited countries in the world and it's smack-dab in the middle of the Mediterranean. Italy's economy is really hurting, especially in the south. Something like this could really help the country.

There is a beautiful coastline, a well-established tourism industry already in existence...it just seems logical that something like this would exist.

Is it a bussiness-hostile environment?

Mafia?

Is there actually something like this in Italy and I'm completely off the mark on this?

I don't get it.

Yes and no.

Catania, Sicily has a ton of nightlife and many beach clubs/parties through the summer. My datasheet regarding Sicily details that out.

I've been told by some Italian friends Rimini is also a good summer party spot. Not sure how much longer that will last however. Most summer party spots around Italy close down around the 2nd or 3rd weekend in September, even if it's still hot out.

You gave yourself the answers, in italy, particularly in the south it's very difficult to make business, particularly if you are foreign, no way you can come to napoli or calabria and open your own activities. In addition people will not be very tolerant with tourists like they do in greece, spain etc. I can guarantee tourists are gonna have so much trouble

Italy was wealthier than Spain/Greece in the 1970s/1980s, so never attempted to target the working class 'package holiday' market. The specialised 'party' spots like Magaluf, Kavos etc grew out of these package destinations.

Italy instead targeted wealthier tourists, very successfully. Its where every middle aged couple I know buys their holiday home, where people have foreign weddings, where people in their 20s/30s go on romantic holidays with their girlfriends etc.

Bear in mind the 'party' tourists are some of the lowest spending tourists you can get. Chavvy British teenagers drinking until they blackout don't spend a lot.

I just spent 5 days in Rimini, very good, I'm in Hvar right now and Rimini is ten times better, absolutely no western tourists in Rimini, Hvar is like vacationing in the US, look up Rimini.... Easy to get to too... Big train station

Till 5 years ago Rimini was the best destination, but now Gallipoli wins easily. Every summer is on the top, in term of nightlife, parties and international djs.
