Chrissie Hynde Criticized for saying 'You Have to Take Responsibility" and for simply suggesting it can be a woman's fault if she is raped.

Her ideas are in line with Roosh's. Any thoughts?

Maybe she has read Roosh [Image: wink.gif]

Quote:Quote:

"You know if you don't want to entice a rapist, don't wear high heels so you can't run from him," she said, in an interview in the Sunday Times.

The Pretenders singer, 63, said she takes "full responsibility" after she was sexually assaulted aged 21 in Ohio.

"If I'm walking around in my underwear and I'm drunk. Who else's fault can it be?" Hynde told Krissi Murison.

In her recently completed autobiography, Reckless, Hynde recounts how she was forced to perform sexual acts on members of an Ohio motorcycle gang who had promised to take her to a party, but instead took her to an abandoned house.

"Technically speaking, however you want to look at it, this was all my doing and I take full responsibility," said the singer, who recalled being high on drugs at the time.

"If I'm walking around and I'm very modestly dressed and I'm keeping to myself and someone attacks me, then I'd say that's his fault. But if I'm being very lairy and putting it about and being provocative, then you are enticing someone who's already unhinged - don't do that. Come on! That's just common sense."

"I don't think I am saying anything controversial, am I?" she concluded.

Smart lady.

Yeah, you can think however you like up until it contradicts the party line.

Sounds like good fodder for an ROK article - SJWs Harass Rape Victim Due To Her Views.

Here's a thought, this girl comes from an earlier generation of women who are known to be more feminine than their modern counterparts.
If you think about it, she was born in the 50's, and its safe to assume that her mother was between 17-23 when she was born. So if youbtake that in to account, she wouldve been raised on the generational values of someone from the late 30's to mid 40's. A time when woman HAD much more responsibility. Remember, these women were caretakers of the house and though that may not seem like much these days, back then, it was a big deal if hubby came home to a cold dinner and an unkempt house.

With that being said, it does not surprise me that she is a woman that takes responsibikity of her actions. People of those days didnt jump at the attention to letting everyone know they had been raped. Rarely, if ever, coning out about it to anyone other than immediate family.
I bet she sees the mentality of todays female youth and is speaking out because she knows, as well as all of us here, that it is absurd to blame men for every rape when so many cases are presented to be at more fault to the women. She lived the life of a sexy provocative young gjrl high on drugs and alcohol and guess what, she accepts the fact that she put her self in tha situation and can guaran-damn-tee ya she learned from it. Never did it again, never happened again.

Edit: Chrissy is one of my all time favourite female rockers and knowing this about her gives new meaning to her song ,"my city was gone." -- you know, where she goes back to ohio? Where my city was gone? Check it out. Im sure some of you non classic rock listeners have overheard it once before.

Chrissy has never been afraid to speak her mind. She is a cool chick and one of the few female musicians I would pay to see perform.

I'm surprised (or maybe not so surprised) that no journalist has mentioned this incident was clearly referenced in the classic Pretenders song "Tattooed Love Boys," from the first album.

Hynde's quote for the article is basically the second verse. Her quote:

"You can't f--- about with people, especially people who wear 'I Heart Rape' and 'On Your Knees' badges ... Those motorcycle gangs, that's what they do... But if I'm being very lairy and putting it about and being provocative, then you are enticing someone who's already unhinged – don't do that. Come on! That's common sense. You know, if you don't want to entice a rapist, don't wear high heels so you can't run from him."

The verse:

"I went apewire 'cause I thought
Like I'd like it little tease
But I didn't mean it
But you mess with the goods doll, honey you gotta pay, yeah"

Then there's another line from the song that was quoted a lot by reviewers: "I shot my mouth off and you showed me what that hole was for."

So this really should come as no shock to anyone who was listening.

I wonder if she'll admit to a teenage lesbian affair next, because I always thought she touched on that in a song on the second album, "Birds of Paradise:"

"Now once upon a time my mind still there wanders
Back in the room the things I remember
One time when we took off our clothes
But you were cryin', cryin'"

This song begins with the line "I wrote a letter to you my friend," and I'm pretty sure the friend in question is female -- from the tone of the lyrics to the "crying" reference above. After all, what guy cries when he and a girl take off their clothes?!

I've already got the best of the Pretenders on CD. I guess there's another band I need to add to my Must Listen list...

,,Я видел, куда падает солнце!
Оно уходит сквозь постель,
В глубокую щель!"

CH created her all male band bc she could not connect with other female musicians. When two of her talented band members died at an early age, it affected her quite a bit.

Some feminists in the media tried to portray CH as a woman leader other feminists could look up to as a role model -- and CH blew her top - and blasted back at them - telling the feminists they were fucking stupid and immature -- and had no idea what it takes to get a music group together.

If she tours again, I am going to be seeing her for sure.

Given the details, I don't think it was her fault or that she has to take full responsibility for what happened. If she went along with things because she was naive and didn't want to say no, that's different. But she said she was threatened with violence and forced. If her recount of the story is accurate, I don't blame her. I feel bad for her - for both what happened then and how she feels about it now.

Suggesting that women drink responsibly, stick with friends, or speak up when they are uncomfortable - all good advice and fine... but if someone sexually assaults you, that's on them. When someone is legitimately forced to perform sex acts, we can certainly look at the circumstances to see what measures could have been taken to avoid the situation, but it still isn't the victim's fault or excuse what took place.

That'd be the break between the first two albums and the third, when the band becomes Hynde and a revolving band of studio guns, and, whilst still enjoyable, lost a lot in the process. You don't really need anything after 1986's 'Get Close' - one of the best-sounding vinyl albums you'll ever hear, if you can find an original release.

That being said, her elegy for her fallen bandmates, 1984's 'Back On The Chain Gang' was one of the favourite 7 inch singles of my youth.

The guy currently singing my songs is a master interpreter due to his vocal magpie style, and I could hear he had lifted many vocal inflections from Hynde, something my sister also noted. That's how good Hynde is as a frontwoman.

Great take on Chrissy and company's music. I have just one small music-geek addition (way off-topic, but still...).

If you're a Pretenders fan from the US and you love the "Talk of the Town" single, as I did, you have to track down the UK original 7." That's because that single is a full-length version that runs around 3:10 -- while all the US versions (the 45, the "Extended Play" EP, Pretenders II, various hits CDs) all have a version that's (poorly) edited to 2:40.

What they did for the US market was cut out one of the "maybe tomorrow/maybe someday" choruses to shorten it. No idea why they did this. It was originally put on "Extended Play" where there was lots of room on the 12" vinyl. This drives me bonkers, because the song sounds wrong this way -- it just ends abruptly.

Below is what it should sound like. And if anyone knows a CD that has the full-length version, let me know:

As a fellow Steve Hoffman dweller and off the top of my head, full length versions can be sourced on CD this way:

Without hot mastering:

- the 1987 compilation 'The Singles',

With hot mastering:

- 2000's 'Greatest Hits'.

Another possible source:

- It was also the second track on the 'Times Square' soundtrack, (awesome double album punk / new wave soundtrack from 1980). If it's been re-released on CD, you'd find it there.

The difference between her and most feminists is that she was actually raped. That and she actually accomplished something with her life. This is they they hate her.

Always loved the Pretenders.

I never knew she was talking about herself in Tattooed Love Boys. Wow.

That song was from 1979, 1980. I was very young and that song title seemed so odd to me then. Only real hard asses had tattoos back then. Felons, servicemen, dudes in biker gangs, gangbangers. That's about it. If a woman had a tattoo she was in the circus - so people could stare.
