Oxford UK - Data Sheet

Firstly, Oxford is home to two universities; You've heard of one of them so no point going into that, and the other not so famous one is Oxford Brookes. It is what is known in the UK as a former-polytechnic, or 'new' university, meaning it isn't as prestigious as the 'red brick' or classical universities. I attended the latter.

If you attend one university, despite inhabiting the same city, you rarely cross bridges with pupils of the other. It's quite strange. My experiences are from one side, and pre-game so I can't really offer anything in depth about how you'll pull a particular type of Oxfordian I'm afraid. However, I can hopefully offer some 'retroactive' advice.

The city is very small, you can walk from the outskirts of one side, to the other in about 45 minutes if you're a fairly fast walker. I've spent a lot of time in Sheffield, and whilst the center is small, the city proper is much larger than Oxford. It's also very old, in lots of parts, many Americans who haven't ventured outside the States would be shocked at how narrow some of the roads are etc.

The people are all either full-time students, academics or tourists. Obviously there are shop keepers etc, but you're not going to be bumping into them in a bar. The locals don't really seem to exist. There's the white working class council estates on the outskirts but the inhabitants don't seem to venture into the center of town at all, and they never seem to be in the nightclubs. Even on weekends, which usually see an increase of locals, rather than students, everywhere else, this just isn't the case in Oxford. Which is a positive. Then there is the local Asian (I mean Indian subcontinent my U.S friends) population who run the takeaways etc. These guys don't go out either, they live in little Muslim enclaves and don't integrate into the wider population much.

There is also a strong international component to the student body, representative of both universities. This can, of course, only be beneficial to someone going there solely to get women.

Centrally, there are various bars as you'd expect from a city, nothing out of the ordinary. There are nearby areas such as Summertown and Jericho that are slightly more upmarket and trendy. I didn't really go there though so my knowledge is limited. I would recommend some central places, but there are so many options it would take too long. Every taste is accounted for, put it that way.

There are 4 main nightclubs that are frequented by students, Bridge, Camera, The Junction and Lava. Unfortunately Junction only opened in my final few weeks there so I never went. I went to the club that was in the same location before it closed, but they renovated for months so I assume it's much different.

Bridge is, well, I hate it because I hated the sort of people who frequent it. Upper-middle class 'rahs'...Its very difficult to describe these people unless you're British and underdstand the culture I'm describing... Basically, as that linked wiki article says, they are all privately educated (not that there is anything inherently bad about that!) spoilt kids. Oxford Brookes is notorious for having these kinds of people massively over represented in their student body. I felt like an alien when I first arrived. Plus I was several years older which made it worse. I think 'Prep' is the closest thing in the States. One positive is it has a very large smoking area which is obviously good for gaming. It is strictly no smoking inside ALL bars/clubs restaurants in the UK, just thought I'd point that out.

Camera is probably my second favourite club. It has two floors, and I think it serves food in the day, although I never went there in the day. It plays R&B mostly, and the best night is Thursday, although I think you need a student I.D to access it on that day. Weekends are also decent. It is fairly newly furbished, but like most places in Oxford, it does feature the wannabe model type Preppy girls who are stuck up and intimidating to approach. Well, I say that as someone who only experienced it pre-game, so I am sure it would be different now, for me and anyone else on here.

My favourite is Lava. It is more 'everyman' than Bridge and has several floors, each playing a different type of music. If you are going to see 'chavvy' locals at all, it would be here. But not so many that it is a negative.

Joint on to Bridge is a bar which is run in conjunction called Anuba. This place is good. Lots of slutty girls I knew used to go there and always ended up bringing someone back. I lived with 4 girls for 6 months, and I got to see first hand how slutty middle class girls are when they are away from Mummy and Daddy. Of course, I was 'the friend' as I didn't have a clue about game at that point.

There are other clubs, catering to more specific niches such as Dub Step etc, however these are small venues that hold sporadic nights and perhaps these are where the locals go, as they, like I said, are never in the places listed above.

This almost 100% student demographic (both in clubs and in general among the younger population) means violence is very rare and the police presence is very strong. I think this is because children of the elite go to University in this town so they are protected well. That's the only theory I can think of. Once I got into a little altercation, and literally after the first punch the police were there. It makes you feel safe walking around and there just isn't even a threat anyway. It's probably got the safest vibe of anywhere I've ever been.

Then there is Cowley Road, which is a road featuring an array of restaurants/bars/takeaways/thrift stores etc - far too much to go into detail about. If you can't pull in the bars there, you'll never pull anywhere. Daygame is also a possibility as it literally crawling with students. I can list several places that I would recommend. Firstly, The City Arms is good for sports, whilst for taking a girl on a date, Bar Aroma is hands down the best venue on the street. There are others, so ask below if you want any more specific suggestions. There is also a music venue called the Carling Academy, that has bands playing most nights. You're not going to get Coldplay or Eminem going there, but for upcoming bands and established 2nd tier bands, it's decent.

For Daygame, you've got to go in Summer and take a walk down the Thames river and through the University college gardens. Hundreds of girls sunbathing etc. It is also a pleasant walk with beautiful scenery. Along the thames path are two pubs I highly recommend. The Head of the River is one, and there is also a garden-pub called The Isis, but it has restricted opening hours so read up on it if you visit to avoid disappointment. In Summer though, like I said, you should be fine. I cannot stress enough the ease in which an experienced player could pick up very high caliber girls in these surroundings. Hang on, I'll try to get a pic so you understand what I mean:

Not great, but imagine loads of people sunbathing to the right of the picture...Its the best I could find!

Finally, there is a 'secret' pub called The Turf Street Tavern which is famous, according to Wiki, for something to do with Bill Clinton "not inhaling". I'm sure you Americans understand! Its pretty hard to find, but if you're a student there, it almost becomes a challenge to find it as even with the help of Google Maps, it is still a bit tricky. If any of you Americans were in there...it would be a pussy paradise as the novelty factor would be immense! Yes, there are American students to be found in Oxford, but none with game!

Travelling to and from London is ace. There are trains throughout the day to London Paddington and also a coach service called the Oxford Tube that runs every ten minutes until midnight, then once an hour until 6 if I remember correctly.

Accommodation is what you would expect. However, there are large complexes of uni halls you can rent rooms from in Summer, when the students aren't there. Sort of defeats the purpose I know, but LOADS of foreign European students (plus Chinese) come over to learn English in summer so if that's your bag, you'd be in luck. There is also the Old Bank Hotel which, if I remember correctly, Michelle Obama stayed in when she visited. It's nice, but the reason I mention it is because I have a contact there, so if you do find yourself there, I can try and get you some special treatment. Which would look good if you were bringing a girl to the restaurant or bar there.

Its a cool place all in all, and also has loads of famous sights in regards to Oxford University that are worth a look. If any of you find yourselves there, do not hesitate to contact me so I can rack my brain for any more info.

The only downside is the age-range. Older guys may have trouble. By older I mean 40+.

If you have any specific questions, fire away!

They're studying business and economics. They plan on becoming filthy rich Angolan business tycoons.

They've had business plans in their heads for a long time, so now they just trying to figure out how to make these plans a reality, I believe.

Awesome. Sounds really cool. Im surprised there's no locals around. Even on a Saturday? I've been out in Cambridge and it can get a bit rowdy, but I guess it's a different city.

Great university town! I was there for one week last November. I stayed at Oxford Central Backpackers, which is located right close to 3 of the 4 night-clubs, and Lava night-club was right across the road from the front door of the hostel. One of the female staff members working at the hostel also worked in the night-club. I only needed to open the front door of the hostel at night to see tons of horny drunk student girls milling around outside in the street at all hours, and the booming music from the clubs could be heard all night at the hostel.

Incidentally, Church Church College dining hall was used as Hogwarts hall in the 'Harry Potter' movies. The students dine there several times per day... I got in after lunch one day and took this shot with my mobile phone.... famous painting line the walls of this place....

Ah yes, Oxford Central Backpackers, many a friend has stayed there when visiting me. It's a good place to meet people as you'd expect at a hostel!

Yeah, a lot of American tourists love touring the colleges, you hear "Harry Potter" mentioned a lot as you walk around.

^ I think that's a fairly famous blog, I read it a while back. She's a Cambridge girl, or was. However, yeah, there's sluts in all universities in England. The more posh they are, the sluttier they are it seems. Among students anyway. The only downside is, they stick to their own. I.E Posh girls are fucking slutty, but only with other posh 'Abercrombie and Fitch' dudes.

Yeah from some of her posts it seemed that way too. The blog sorta died down now, since there's not many updates and a lot of it is just depressing since its her just getting perpetually pumped and dumped then setting her hamster free rationalising it.

Bumping this as i've recently moved here. Bars and clubs about a year or so ago changed their closing time to 3am. Yes 3am! I was blown away with the talent that was out last night.

I went to a few places not outlined in this data sheet. Union, Eurobar, and the White Rabbit.

Union is a basement club with very low ceilings. Watch ye head! Absolutely bumping with 2 bars, however there's a very aggressive security staff. Fun mix of college students.

Still blown away with the closing time. Isn't London's closing time 1 or 1:30am?

That's cool mate, I live about an hour south of Oxford, but have some mates up there that I visit a couple of times a month usually. Have you moved there permanently?

More or less. They may relocate me to London eventually (in 7+ months). PM me when you're in town!
