What would that small town be like if the heroin and meth (regulated for purity, along with all other drugs,) were available at minimal cost for the average recreational user from a government monopoly?

It would't bring back any of the people who have been murdered by piece of shit heroine and meth addicts who have tweeked out and lost their minds.

Would it stop the constant burglaries? Maybe, maybe not.

Would it stop the knifings and other violent crimes? No.

I think your scenario of cheap/free drugs like meth and heroine being readily available to whoever wants them would end up with even more people getting hooked on that shit.

People fucked up on meth and heroine are a danger to the people around them. If they just smoked meth and stayed in their homes I wouldn't care, but that isn't what happens. Meth makes people extremely paranoid, violent, and strong. They are dangerous. Giving them free drugs is no solution to me.

I'd rather we legalize or decriminalize marijuana, let those people out of jail, and throw the junkies in.

I do agree education and rehabilitation are necessary, and they should be getting more of that where they belong, behind bars.

Well you may certainly approve of Duterte's policy of using death squads to kill both drug pushers as well as drug lords and addicts that refuse to go to rehab. 120,000 drug addicts so far have given themselves up to police.

On top of his pledge to wipe out crime via ruthless extermination of criminals.

Just finished episode 6. I'm hooked! I haven't watched a show all the way through since Breaking Bad, and that's some big shoes to fill.

I really can relate with the ruthlessness of drug lords. After the first murder, each subsequent one is nothing. Its a life where a single misstep, and you're dead. And if we look at it dispassionately, how different is it from us in the legit world? Someone's ALWAYS trying to screw you over. The govt, spouse, settlement seeking lawsuits to ruin your life, colleagues who'll kill you if it means they get the corner office, etc. Life is war.

I can relate. Once youre in the life, theres no getting out. Might as well live like a man. El chapo, Senor el mayo zambada, el azul, mi respectos.

I really am a sucker for nostalgia. This series had me hooked. It also prompted me to revisit such 80's classics as:

- The Flamingo Kid;
- Weekend at Bernies;
- Kickboxer;
- Basket Case;
- The Stuff;
- Big Trouble in Little China; and
- Blood Diner.

(and many more movies which were indelibly etched into my memory as a child of the 80's).

Sorry for the derail.

I watched two episodes of this trash and then mentally checked out. Typical Hollywood recipe production as they're cutting through all the annoying details of Escobar's and his crew's lives and focus on only the juicy bits. But no reason to despair: If you speak Spanish (or don't mind English subs) then I recommend 'Pablo Escobar - El Patron del Mal'. It was produced in Columbia by Columbians and provides a lot of historical context. Very good acting across the board and they really managed to capture the spirit of the time. A few episodes are a bit drawn out, especially when they cover the killings of some of the renowned political figures. But once you've seen Andrés Parra play Escobar you won't be able to endure another minute of 'Narcos'. Hey, just my 2 cents - opinions differ.

I thought it was just me. I also only made it two episodes. Along with with what you mentioned about being typical Hollywood, I couldn't get past the fact that none of the actors were Colombian. For me it felt like I was watching "Kung Fu" with David Carradine.

I'm between jobs at the moment so I got nothing but time to shred. Took adderall today and played my new guitar while essentially going through the second season in two sittings. I think the acting is fantastic, but the plot is unnecessarily drawn out. Out of interest, I'm likely going to begin Patron del Mal' next, since it seems like most of what Netflix has to offer is droll and boring.

While Narcos is good and Wagner Moura is a top class actor, I found the Colombian series as shown below, much much better in every aspect. It's very complete with 74 episodes. Yes I've watched them all as they're truly addictive. The acting is top notch! Andres Parra is a world class actor and worthy of an Oscar for his role in this series.

Narcos should be like a trailer, an warm up to the real thing. If you want to know about the fascinating life of Pablo Escobar, the Boss of Evil (El Patron del Mal), then you cannot miss the Colombian series. It's THAT good!

Going to check Season 2 of Narcos only because I am a big fan of Wagner Moura from his Elite Squad films in Brasil.

Where on Kodi (or anywhere) can you get Patron del Mal with English subtitles? I've only found it without subtitles.

You should read the book, 'The Accountant's Story' for a proper look at what went down.

As good as Narcos seem, its pretty much a dumbed down version of what occurs in the life to earn ratings from the masses.

Having the threat of Torture and violent execution hanging on your head is no fucking joke.

By the by, stay away from that life, mi compadres.

El Patron del Mal is off the leash. Narcos can't compete. As a Spanish speaker I appreciate listening to easier to understand Spanish as the Mexicans I am surrounded by talk too fast and use too much slang.

Note: If you have watched other Spanish series like El Cartel de Sapos and El Reina del Sur, they use many of the same actors. Kind of like HBO does in their series.

When Chile dies I felt like I did when Jimmy dies on Boardwalk Empire.
