High class club wear

For those of you with access to NYC / Miami / Chicago / LA

What do the DJs wear? I am trying to brand myself in my local market and I have yet to decide what my get up should be.

I really want to steer away from the frat/punk/hipster vibe that most of my local djs have.

Is there any reason to dress differently than a club goer? It was far to hot to wear a suit. I also don't want to look totally out of place in my college town, either.

Most pictures I see show DJs looking SUPER casual, no matter the event.

I was talking to one of the owners this week and he described me as not looking like a DJ.. I just look like "an average guy". Last week a girl said that I don't look like a Dj, but rather a smart college guy. (rayban glasses, chinos, oxford uni tee, converse)

To me this is as much about pickup as it is looking fly, getting more shows, being respectable, acting my age (29) and not looking like a guy version of a ugg boot girl.

Thanks!

Suits don't have to be hot - you can get them in linens or light wool which will be nice and cool.

Something like this perhaps: http://www.mrporter.com/product/300806

Though maybe in a slightly darker colour or pattern to keep your dry cleaning bills down.

definitely some fly links.. it makes me wonder, are the people claiming they can't dress up in college towns doing it right?

i dont think it is possible to look like an idiot wearing the mrporter look, even in a college bar. i feel like every time i do see someone trying to pull this off it is mens warehouse bullshit, etc.

I'd say it would depend on the type of music you dj and what the common style is in those subcultures. If it's not too specific, maybe a streetwear look. Dark slim slouchy jeans (not skinny or too loose), classic sneaks (nike air jordans/dunks, adidas originals), interesting t shirts (striped or cool art/pop culture graphic) and if it's not too hot maybe a cardigan/blazer/leather jacket. Check out pictures of Kid Cudi (I think that's the style I mean).

Or you could go Diplo style and wear tailored suits with a twist (contrast trim on lapels, sneakers, different types of shirts, etc.).
