So i went to court today

I noticed that the attorney that represented me had a relationship with the prosecutor and the judge like no other, basically the prosecutor wanted the charge to stay on my record (reckless driving), the attorney just basically jokes around with the prosecutor, then they agree on judification withheld and the prosecutor says you owe me one to my attorney and then thats it, we go outside and they just both joke around on how they are going to go out and look for chics on the weekend, in my head i'm like what the fuck? so basically if i would've shown up to court without a "good" i should say "well known" attorney i would've been fucked, so basically this attorneys and prosecutors all know each other? the whole court process just seemed like a game.

You just learned one of life's lessons that they don't teach you in school.

Life is a "Game".

It is all about knowing how it is played.

Update:

The lesson is: Never skimp on your legal team.

Adjudication withheld means that i can legally say that i was not convicted on "reckless driving" right? that's what my attorney said, i just want to make sure.

Now you know how the legal system really works! I purposely do any stupidities in my own county..like "G" says, you should have that on lockdown! My attorney (cousin) has two judges family members working for him and somehow these judges seem to get most of his caseload. If you ask around in any area you can usually find the guy whos going to get the job done

I wouldn't take the word of what someone tells you on an internet forum over what your lawyer says.

Them knowing each other has nothing to do with paying for a good legal team , a damn public defender can get an adjudication, hell you could have gotten that plea without an atty.

Of course the attorney and prosecutor know each other, you think you are their only client they probably see each other more during than the week, than they see their own spouses.

Atty are at the court house damn near everyday, and so are the prosecutors.

A good atty would have gotten the case dismissed, and I wouldn't shell out big bucks for a wreckless driving case.

It is a game, that is rigged. The smartest thing to do is not play by staying out the legal system.

I wish i could've gotten it dismissed, but i was doing 110 miles a hour, had open containers, and the cop car was after me for quite some time, i couldn't hear the sirens because my music was so loud, i think is time that i leave america for a bit.

Traffic Infractions and Traffic Court is just a localized scam - here in New York we have Village Courts, Town Courts, County Wide Traffic Adjudication bureaus, and in NYC a consolidated Administrative Law Court system -

With respect to your reckless driving charge - typically there are statutes in place everywhere that 'kick up' a violation to a misdemeanor level 'reckless behavior' charge which can be exponentially more serious - typically 30 to 40 mph above the posted limit. At the level you were charged with - and having open containers in the car, you were right to get a lawyer. Texas will give you a three weeks in jail if you plead not guilty to that type of charge and lose at trial.

If you sat in Court and saw your particular lawyer getting deal after deal with other lawyers getting fines, points, etc. from that same prosecutor - then you could assume your lawyer is getting improper offers from the prosecutor - but typically in traffic court - you almost always get a deal for your first offense. There are so many variables that go into these things - I love the men's magazines with articles regarding how to beat traffic tickets - 99% of them are absolute bullshit. Here's what you need to know -

If you get a ticket close to where you live - ask around and find our how traffic tickets are handled - in my county you get an automatic reduction in points but a heightened fine - in the county over from me there are no deals - you have to beat the ticket at trial which is very hard. If you have a clean record and nothing to loose you can handle it yourself - if you are close to having your license pulled - get a lawyer.

If you get a ticket in an area far from home - or in a place like the American South or Midwest - you must hire a lawyer to handle the ticket - you have to get informed as to how the local ticket scam goes down, i.e. will they send you to jail if you plead not guilty and go to trial and loose. One case in point - New York resident clocked at 114 mph in North Carolina. His plea offer is a 600$ fine and 5 points. Says 'no I was not speeding' (yeah right) goes to trial and is convicted and sent to jail for 10 days. Look at the statutes - all provide from jail time even on a violation.

Moral of the story - everywhere is not New York or Chicago where there are no real consequeneces to speeding or DUI.

Howdy G, you advice above somehow stuck to my mind and previously I used to skimp , really skimp on lawyers until one really fucked it up for me and then I read ur advice went out and got me the best and most expensive Lawyer, Guess what he got it done....... It took a lot of money but money very well spent.......

1 + for G, I owe you one ......

Yes I hear when others say stay out of the legal system but playas be prepared living in US , you do not know when where and how one gets involved. So listen to G's advice and earn ur green so can spend when needed.

At least you're learning this with a traffic ticket. I'm learning this with a divorce settlement. I envy you.
