I've never had it because I am antisocial in the truest sense of the word, however I need to set up an account in order to use Tinder, which pisses me off.

Agreed, except for one reason...

That 20 year babe I hooked up with from Tinder last week

Oh yeah, and I waste way more time on RVF than on Facebook.

Being bombarded with news and information that you don't want to hear about can block what your trying to focus on, news sites, fb, twitter are far to easy to intend to spend a few minutes on and end up finishing hours later, in the case of facebook some people never log off. I prefer to read subjects that I choose to read whether this be on forums or selected news sites/rss feeds but even then sometimes its easy to be distracted at times.

Minimal time on FB, with the Newsfeed Eradicator Chrome extension (golden). Simply use as tool for occasionally staying in touch with friends around the world. Zero consumption of shared content.

What I'm curious about though is: Is there anything missed out by not being on IG/ SC?

Girls are increasingly asking for my IG. I just laugh and say I dont do food selfies. Not having it doesn't seem to be hurting me for now.

But I'm wondering - does anyone see a trend where IG/SC become really important for building trust/showcasing lifestyle? Or will it essentially remain extraneous fluff.

Thanks for posting this. Very in tune with my thinking and approach on Social Media now.

I went through a process of clearing up of my online profile about 6 months ago, as I was shocked how much info was out there for people to dig up on me and when I say clear up I mean it is now a bit harder to find this info as nothing is ever really deleted. I was wondering what to do with my Facebook profile. I kept making the excuse that "what if I need to get in touch with X or X". I came to the conclusion that deactivating my profile was the way to go. In the rare case I really need to contact someone I can reactivate to do this. I bet I never do.

Since then it's all been good. I don't miss it at all.

Facebook is pure garbage. Its used for keeping connection to people from your past and I was addicted to it for the longest time. My mental health took a toll because I would have to watch my friends list displaying pure leftist SJW behaviour on FB while I would have to think twice about liking a conservative/traditional post.

I deleted that app off my phone and I maybe log on 1-2 times a day now on the computer just to see notifications. I kept the messenger app on the phone as it is beneficial.

IG I have no problem with because I follow less than 200 people which means that there is no new content to constantly refresh. I like posting pictures as well.

Twitter I used to despise but since this year Ive learned that the red pill/ manosphere has a bug presence on twitter and I dont feel guilty refreshing twitter multiple times a day. I only follow self improvement and red pill types on twitter, which keeps the noise down.

And here is former FB founder Sean Parker admitting FB exploits a feedback loop in humans brains, and it was basically designed to monopolize your time and wreck your social interactions.

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-11-09...ids-brains

Facebook Founder Warns "God Only Knows What It's Doing To Kids' Brains"

Confirming every 'big brother' conspiracy there is about the social media giant, Parker explained how social networks purposely hook users and potentially hurt our brains...

"When Facebook was getting going, I had these people who would come up to me and they would say, 'I'm not on social media.' And I would say, 'OK. You know, you will be.' And then they would say, 'No, no, no. I value my real-life interactions. I value the moment. I value presence. I value intimacy.' And I would say, ... 'We'll get you eventually.'"

"I don't know if I really understood the consequences of what I was saying, because [of] the unintended consequences of a network when it grows to a billion or 2 billion people and ... it literally changes your relationship with society, with each other ... It probably interferes with productivity in weird ways. God only knows what it's doing to our children's brains."

"The thought process that went into building these applications, Facebook being the first of them, ... was all about: 'How do we consume as much of your time and conscious attention as possible?'"

"And that means that we need to sort of give you a little dopamine hit every once in a while, because someone liked or commented on a photo or a post or whatever. And that's going to get you to contribute more content, and that's going to get you ... more likes and comments."

"It's a social-validation feedback loop ... exactly the kind of thing that a hacker like myself would come up with, because you're exploiting a vulnerability in human psychology."

"The inventors, creators — it's me, it's Mark [Zuckerberg], it's Kevin Systrom on Instagram, it's all of these people — understood this consciously. And we did it anyway."

In this 'confessional', it appears Parker has become "something of a conscientious objector" on social media.

Howeever , as Axios notes, Parker ends with just enough crazy to make you wonder...

"Because I'm a billionaire, I'm going to have access to better health care so ... I'm going to be like 160 and I'm going to be part of this, like, class of immortal overlords. [Laughter]

Because, you know the [Warren Buffett] expression about compound interest. ... [G]ive us billionaires an extra hundred years and you'll know what ... wealth disparity looks like."

I have a Facebook profile but I haven't posted anything for years. I also have false birth dates and so on. That said, I have done a little business in another country lately and a young person suggested I check Facebook for reviews of local business people. I have found a good reliable contact off it. Also I'm going to update my own website to have Facebook reviews as well as Google ones. When I got my website a few years ago they set up Facebook reviews and also suggested Google reviews and to be honest I haven't bothered which is a mistake.

So I think its OK for business stuff but I'll still avoid it like the plaque for personal stuff. Wherever you go people are more interested in dam photos and posting them than enjoying stuff. People often comment that I take little photos on holidays, but I strongly disagree enjoy the moment etc.

I think Social Media breaks down to many different things. The toxic part of social media in my opinion is the scanning Instagram pictures for hours, checking what your friends are eating for lunch on Facebook, being so focused on documenting your life you don't even live it.

That said I think something like Reddit for example, at least for me is as much educational and news and staying on top of trends and stuff going on in my niche more so than being "social".

Also if your using social media for business or to make money that's another thing.

I think some people are more wired to like social media, I have some friends who are on SnapChat or Facebook 24/7 those hold 0 appeal to me.

My social media addiction is probably Reddit and Youtube but again it's more industry related stuff, I trade cryptos so staying up on cryptos and engaging with crypto content keeps me in the loop and makes me money. For my business I obviously need a social media presence and that stuff I do benefits me but what I really don't get, and I suppose that makes it easy for me to not waste time on there is it's just not that interesting to me I don't have real life friends on social media because I have them in real life, I don't need to follow their lunch, they can tell me about it next time they see me if its that important.

Another vote for the Unfollow feature on FB. I have unfollowed all my freinds and the first thing when a new one gets added is to unfollow them. I use FB only for my business ads and staying up to date about work related industry by liking pages associated with it.

I like the approach from Bold and Determined: If you don't learn from it or earn from it, burn it. That applies to this forum as well. While most here probably started in the game section and slowly migrated to "everything else", at some point, those two sections wear out their usefulness (particularly everything else), and the more time you spend in those two sections, the less value you're getting out of this forum. Once you get your mind right, get a good grasp on how the world and women work, then you need to execute, and that's where the "lifestyle" and "weightlifting and fitness" come in. After a while, if you're really on the path to self improvement, that's where your focus should be when you visit the forum.

Civilize the mind but make savage the body.

I stopped using Facebook cold-turkey about two months ago and was surprised at just how proactive Facebook's system is at trying to lure you to log in again with emails about "missing messages" (posts, yes; messages, no). Really BS approach to not losing users or keeping them part of the 30-day active category.

Really don't miss it except when friends ask if I'm going to some event or party that was only posted on FB and I have no idea what they're talking about...

Facebook to me is nothing but things that get me riled up and emotional for no god dam reason. Videos about gun control, politics, abortion. A lot of opinions . Although I find myself wasting alot of time on instagram looking at pictures or short clips.

Very true. They are experts at user retention. Just see the cunningness employed in their mobile app. When you press the back button intending to close the app, it actually takes you to the top of the feed and refreshes the feed so you see new content and then start scrolling all over again.

I unfollowed 100% of my friends and family members!

I only follow companies and organisations on facebook.

Yes, unfollow is the best feature. My facebook newsfeed is almost like a newsreader nowdays, I only follow websites I am interested in.

What content my "friends" create is useless anyway.

This.

It's amazing people don't realize they have this control, they become addicted and caught up in trivial drama and then complain about it as though they have no control over what they see. I un-followed about 90% of my friends, and have set up my newsfeed so that i only see relevant information (Music updates, certain niche news, and other personal interests)

It can be used as a tool if you can see past the social aspect of it.

Get FB Purity http://www.fbpurity.com/

It's a browser extension, which allows to customize your FB in a lot of ways. Most notable it allows to hide the newsfeed.
With this, FB turns into a common messaging platform / email replacement.

FB is not that bad if you have self discipline.

Do you stay away from a beer because you are afraid of turning into or alcoholic or getting smashed drunk every night?

I use beer and FB to enhance my life, work for me, give me benefit and when they don't serve me I drop them.

FB is great for staying in touch with old mates, gaming women and the odd bit of mindless entertainment.

I deleted my Facebook and Instagram a week ago. So far I only noticed benefits:

- no more distraction
- no more attention whores
- no more seeing pics of people I don't care about
- no more low quality information avalanche
- increased productivity
- increased serenity

Moreover, there is no need to use them as a communication tool as everyone I want to keep in touch with has Skype/Whatsupp/LinkedIn.

My gut feeling is that it is probably one of the best decisions I made this year.
