Nobel Winning Scientist Forced to Resign For Saying Women Shouldn't Work With Men

Some additional comments here.

Quote:Quote:

A week ago, Tim Hunt was a well-known Nobel Prize winner who was promoting science education throughout Europe and the world.

Today he's widely perceived as a sexist who has been stripped of most of his positions because of inappropriate comments about women in science.

Gone is his position with the European Research Council science committee, his role at the Royal Society, and his honorary post at University College London. He said Sunday he was fired from the latter, while the university has said only that his resignation was accepted.

Hunt's fall followed a speech Tuesday at the World Conference of Science Journalists in South Korea in which he said that girls cause trouble in labs because "you fall in love with them, they fall in love with you, and when you criticize them, they cry."

The comments caused an instant Twitter storm that quickly led to Hunt, 72, leaving his posts even as he apologized. He has said he had been trying to make a joke, but nevertheless stood by his comment that love affairs in the lab are disruptive to science.

He was vilified by many, including The Guardian's Anne Perkins, who wrote that his comments were "the educated man's version" of blaming rape victims because they were wearing short skirts before they were attacked.

Hunt, 72, laments that his cherished career is finished — and some prominent women scientists who thought his remarks were deeply offensive said Sunday the punishment may be too harsh.

Athene Donald, a leading physicist who is master of Churchill College at Cambridge University, said Hunt always enthusiastically supported her work when she served for five years as Gender Equality Champion at the university.

"I've spent a lot of time with him and I've never seen any sign of sexism," she told The Associated Press. "He has traveled the world since he got the Nobel Prize, talking to young audiences, male and female, giving so generously, and now he has been ruined."

Hunt won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2001 and later was made a knight.

Donald said his comments were "indefensible" but there have been no cases of women coming forward to say they were poorly treated by Hunt, or discriminated against in any way.

Ottoline Leyser, a former student of Hunt's who now directs the Sainsbury Laboratory at the University of Cambridge, said she was upset that Hunt's offensive comments could have a negative impact on young women considering a career in science but that his record is otherwise unblemished.

"All my interactions with him were very positive," she told the AP. "He was a very enthusiastic and inspirational teacher. I've no indications from my experience or from colleagues that he's in the slightest way sexist."

She said the speed with which news of his comments spread via social media has reinforced for many scientists the dangers of speaking to the press or to the public.

"We're all of us terrified," she said. "In this media age, when sound bites spread so quickly, an off-the-cuff remark after a lunch in some conference can suddenly result in the fatal destruction of your career."

That last part is happening at an ever greater clip. You absolutely can not say anything that could get construed by the masses as offensive. It doesn't matter what you've done in your career or the record you've built up or if it was meant to be a joke. It used to be said that actions speak louder than words. But this man's actions meant nothing when it came to bearing the brunt of this PC tsunami.

The commenters to the article seem to generally agree that this is a huge overreaction. But the majority opinion somehow doesn't get any play. Only the vocal minority are heard.

^^ the masses who do absolutely nothing but seek attention and opportunities to feel victimized. Deep down inside some of the hate is sourced from jealousy. Knowing they will fall so short of this man in contribution to society. Except they probably are all good at trimming their nose hairs.

The problem with women is that they introduce sexual tension in the workplace and, typically, they don't contribute as much as men.
Women are at best a distraction and at worst a liability.

More women you have in your workplace, the more problems you get.

Absolutely.

I've worked with some great women, but most of the time, they are way more trouble than they are worth.

To be fair, there's a percentage of men that are useless as well.

However, these guys are losers and everyone knows it.

Women don't have to be losers to ruin a work place. "Normal" women do that all the time.

Women cause all kinds of drama and trouble and expense in the workplace and other institutions.

Because of women's fragile emotional state , they are big on banning and censoring.

We have volumes of HR rule books and armies of HR employees now policing what you can or cannot say because of female fragility and lack of emotional strength. Humor and fun is largely forbidden because of women (this guy in this case, a Nobel winner in medicine by God,was fired for joking around).

A big reason college tuition has spiraled out of control is because of the explosion of administrators required to sooth the feelings of hurt girls.

This is why men historically had male only spaces. So the guys can joke and have fun without some bitch scold wagging her finger and "tsk tsking" them.

Take care of those titties for me.

This reminds me so much of that bullshit "shirtgate" issue. Many women fail to recognize the bigger picture. All they know is their feelings were hurt. The actual female scientists even agree that ruining his career/forcing his resignation is uncalled for.

I knew a girl at university who was a STEM major and what I would consider the exception to the rule (got her to review my advanced calculus work). Very mathematical and very competent.

She started going to academic conferences with the goal of getting summer/post university position. She admitted to me that at one of the evening social events she had a few drinks and got up on a table and danced.

When she was done just about every male nerd with a heartbeat and an intact dick was there to help her down and she got more cards pushed into her hand in 10 minutes then over the rest of the entire conference.

I don't blame her for using her [ass]ets to secure a position because she had the skill to back it up, but you got to wonder for every girl like her, how many don't have skills to back it up and just coast to a cushy position where some schlub guy has to work twice as hard to compensate for a female quota?

Ten years ago, Harvard University president Larry Summers had to step down because he made similar comments.

Summers said he felt there were biological differences between boys and girls and this is why boys did better in math and science. In the wake of his comments, feminists and the media went apoplectic.

Slate was the only publication that ran a balanced article, calling Summers' ordeal a "pseudo-feminist show trial." If anyone wants to read it, it's here.

This latest incident shows that we have not progressed as a society in ten years time. Back in the '60s, it was the religious nuts who were in control of "the narrative," burning (and banning) Beatles records over a trivial John Lennon comment. Today it's the feminists. Hopefully their time will pass too.

This stuff is scary. The media give the wild lynch mob power. Those people are driven by emotions - pure emotions that go to extremes because everything in their ordinary lives is made by a plan. Controlled and restricted. But then they read something "offensive" at the media - even when media just cover a piece of the truth - and they get a good feeling when their emotions rush to an extreme peak.

At the end those people make it sound like they are a big group, actually they are just a loud one. Its scary that companies listen to them in the heath of the moment and lives are destroyed because of emotional internet rage. It will need some time to this new phenomena till societies get used to it.

Btw I think women can be as good scientist as men. I know some pretty smart women that take their work serious.

Funny was when girls on Facebook started to share this, and did not realize while crying "what an asshole blablabla" they just reinforced what the guy said that they can not take criticism.

The difference between the scientist and ISIS (in women's eyes) is that ISIS does what it likes and doesn't really care about what women say.

Great. I'm now seeing this from my mother, who is a research scientist at a university, and is supporting it by way of those hashtags and other bullshit. Gonna have to open her eyes to see that this is the fucking world her grandson is going to grow up in. He can lose all he has worked for in life due from speaking his views.

Hate to say it, but if this guy doesn't bounce back, he's going to blow his brains out. All because of an offended intern.

Something has to give. More and more people are seeing through the facade that feminism has been holding up. Feminism is the preserve of the white middle class female and her orbiters. They post articles about "mansplaining" and "manspreading" on social media, while young girls in deprived towns/cities of Northern Europe are getting raped, and many non-Western women are enduring genuine hardship and suffering. I can't see how the circus can continue, a figurehead of feminism made a porno, and feminist parents want to make their son better by forcing him to live as a girl.

How any rational person can justify that shit is beyond me. Maybe I'm being sentimental and over-hopeful to think it's reaching critical mass.

I keep telling you, China lol. Seriously Scientists are flocking there, as they're getting PAID money and don't have to deal with SJW-ism. This is going to bite the west in the butt hard in the future. WE all see it coming, but the feminists don't. Hell, Russia could do well to if they would just wait, and keep their traditional values (women)in check.

I think this is the main reason why China blocks so much shit from the west, they aren't stupid, they probably know whats going down in the west and want to avoid that at all costs.

This is all based on a lie. A lie of omission,

The official quotes Sir Tim as saying: “It’s strange that such a chauvinist monster like me has been asked to speak to women scientists. Let me tell you about my trouble with girls. Three things happen when they are in the lab: you fall in love with them, they fall in love with you, and when you criticise them they cry. Perhaps we should make separate labs for boys and girls?

“Now seriously, I’m impressed by the economic development of Korea. And women scientists played, without doubt an important role in it. Science needs women and you should do science despite all the obstacles, and despite monsters like me.”

They knew he was joking, they misquoted him, and they blew up his life. Emma Suckawitz, UVA rape, Duke Lacross, and now Tim Hunt. Do these SJW cocksuckers ever tell the truth? Tim Hunt has done more for Medicine, more for immunology, more for humanity than all SJWs combined. He changed the way we understand disease, has literally saved lives, and they destroyed his career and legacy over a lie. I am fucking done, it is just too goddamn much how craven, dishonest and utterly reprehensible these "justice" warriors behave. I am just livid, I am going for a fucking walk in downtown Miami to calm down- this was not a misunderstanding, it was a willful omission of relevant context to advance a predetermined agenda. Fuck social justice, this is not justice it is character assassination. Disgusting.

^ It is amazing how in so much coverage of it, the entire context of the quote was rarely seen by most people.

Amazing what they can do with propaganda these days!
