Yoga Poses and Headstands: the New Duckface

Yes.

From what I've seen, the top attention-whoring photos fall into these genres (not necessarily in order):

1. Duckface

2. Modified duckface with tongue sticking out a little.

3. The fake mustache

4. The photo of "girls' night out" with her holding a drink

5. The photo of her holding a drink, alone

6. The photo of her in Macchu Picchu

7. The photo of her in some watersport

8. The photo of her on a racing bike

9. The headstand or yoga photo

10. The photo of her wearing a graduation cap at school graduation

11. The photo of her with some little kid (usually hers)

12. The bathroom selfie

13. The selfie of her taking her selfie

Guys, it's not "attention whoring" it's called "trying to get laid."

Those girls Tuthmosis posted are all on Tinder, an app designed for casual sex.

I'm not sure how you define attention whoring, but this is what Tinder (and social media in general) is for most women--by their own admission:

For the rest of the women, Tinder may have been "an app for casual sex" once upon a time, but everyone knows it's become overrun with girls looking for relationships, just idly killing time, and just trying to get free shit--as is well-documented throughout this forum:

And, these pictures aren't just on Tinder--they're on OKCupid, Facebook, and every other social media. Didn't think I needed to have samples from all of them to convince you. Not to mention Tinder pictures are populated directly from Facebook.

Let us try to form a law where it's forbidden for girls to take pictures or have some sort of social life. They don't deserve it. Only us alpha men do.

But seriously, I'm really headdesking here. It seems women can do no good whatsoever according to most posters here. Every thing needs to be analysed and critisized. What a pleasant life you guys must lead. How about having some fun?

We have more important battles to fight, and we should pick ones we can win. This is in neither category, although Tuth does have a point.

You can choose to not participate in a thread--or disagree in a civilized manner--but don't insult the membership in this snarky male-feminist tone.

Attention whoring is somewhat like cosmic background radiation - infinite and eternal, just a fact of life. The only thing one can do is live with it, but that doesn't mean they can't make note of it or even make fun of it. Spike, no one here is getting angry at some sluts doing headstands or banning photography, we're just noting how widespread it has become.

Just recognizing a trend and commenting about it, human nature and psychology to look for patterns and we found one. This is the shit science is based on and getting laid is a science.

For the record I like attractive women in yoga pants, attractive woman who attention whore, attractive women who do yoga and and women who have sex with me very soon after meeting me.

I think it's more about continuous improvement (to borrow some corporate-speak). As other posters have said, it's great that these women are getting in shape. But is that where we want the improvement to stop? No improved mindset, for instance?

No, I'd say we want a society in which every generation, both men and women, is always trying to be better than the previous ones.

(Note that I'm not letting men off the hook with that last statement. But I doubt I have to repeat the virtues of male self-improvement on this forum.)

I don't see how this thread got construed as an attack on women who do yoga or stay in shape, nor do I see how guys think it's bringing up an issue that needs to be railed against. It's simply social observation mixed with disappointment for yet another transmutation of the myriad ways women pander for validation without returning commensurate positive female qualities. (and no, internet fap material created by yoga girls is not a legitimate feminine contribution)

Only a couple years ago, seeing a pretty chick post a yoga pic was an appealing sight that suggested she was laid back, healthy, and feminine. These days, a pic of a chick doing downward dog on a beach, regardless of how tight her butt is, immediately registers in my mental schema as "unoriginal narcissist. next."

Once again- the pleasure of intimately discovering the tight body of an attractive, yet modest, girl is so much more enjoyable than a girl who goes out of her way to advertize it blatantly.

This is why I stopped online dating. It's where the bottom 20% of our society goes to date now. Attention whores, fatties, hipsters, nutcases, pervy wankers, ect. Birds of a feather. Spend enough time around these people and they'll start to rub off. We might as well go work in a mental institution, Jenny Craig clinic, or PUA lair.

I quit because it started affecting my disposition towards women and society. Online, you give women the power to say whatever they want, from the safety of their smartphone, and empower themselves by blocking, or unmatching you. Shaming isn't going to make it better. For every 1 neg, there'll be 1000 compliments.

I quit because these women have removed themselves from real life dating, and now the dating scene is cleaner. These are the chicks that walk into the bar with $2 in their pocket, start hustling drinks, and get kicked out. The same ones that get drunk/sloppy, dress like whores at a cookout, and start flirting with every dude in the backyard. They get ejected from the social circle. 20 years ago, they had nowhere else to go, so they kept coming back. Now they have the internet. Let them have it.

I'll make one more related social observation. Crazy people are on the rise. Within the last 5 we hit a turning point. I see far less tolerance for it on the social scene. Bars have gone to a 0 tolerance policy for the disruptive behavior. 15 years ago, as a bouncer, I'd wonder why the owners would let these people back in after we'd kicked them out. It wasn't until a bad fight or the cops got until the perma ban hit. Then, you might be talking about 1 or 2 crazies a week. It was sustainable. But at some point, they started coming in with numbers, like 10. Now business is lost because the sane paying customers found other watering holes. Today I see them kicked out before shit even hits the fan.

Now, with this observation in mind, think what the internet was 15 years ago, and compare it to now.

Going to disagree. It's women being women. Attention whoring yes, but women have been attention whoring since the dawn of time. Photographs just capture it.

The question isn't whether or not these girls look good, or would you bang them, or are you happy that they're keeping fit. That's not the point.

If anything, this is a sad commentary on the state of affairs in the U.S. You guys saying, "At least they're keeping fit..." that shouldn't be anything remarkable. In most other countries on Earth, women are skinny.

There is a thirst epidemic in this country. I see it every day. I'm not going to accuse the fine gents of this forum of it but I see symptoms of thirst on here.

What these girls are doing, plain and simple, is attention whoring. Women don't need to try and get laid, so you cannot say these chicks are just trying to get laid. Women need sex on occasion. They need attention all the time.

Women's dating profiles are 99% all the same. Yoga on a beach, shooting a gun, fake mustache, in a group of girls in Vegas, etc.

What I would want to see on a dating profile:

Yeah, that's right. A picture of a chick with her parents, both of which are still together and clearly have a healthy parent-daughter relationship.

"...so I gave her an STD, and she STILL wanted to bang me."

But maybe I should stop because "everyone knows" it's just for attention whoring now? And that "mainstream sources" say it's bad?

Nah.

My point here isn't to attack, but to say that someone's results depend on their mentality. You can choose to primarily see the negative side of women, or you can figure out how to use all these pieces to your advantage to get what you want out of the game.

When some guys see girls posting yoga photos or other sexy photos, they see it in a negative light and label it with jargon like "attention whoring."

If you spend your time hating on women and making fun of them, then it's going to put you in the wrong mindset for attracting and seducing them.

So to avoid that, I let myself see this kind of stuff as an opportunity. And I've written extensively on this board about how guys can take advantage of this opportunity, both online and with getting laid quickly, because I want them to have success and to have fun with girls.

But they have to choose to see the positive in order to have success. So I just don't see how threads like
these are helping the cause.

Seconded. Stop following instagram whores, stop liking yoga pants and crossfit pictures. Yeah, chicks look fuckable whatever. Don't pat girls on the back for jumping on a band wagon or simply for not being ugly fat and lazy. I want a girl who shows class, reserve, nurturing, and compassion.

How good-looking are you? You don't have disclose specifics, but we know that height, build, features, and even race play a huge factor in results--and particularly online. I don't doubt your game, but all signs point to you being well above-average in looks. Especially given the overwhelming consensus that the talent pool on Tinder is shrinking, these kind of numbers are nothing short of extraordinary. The quality of one's pictures can only go so far, unless you're already quite gifted in the looks department.

I've gotten a fair share of bangs on Tinder myself, but nothing matching these numbers. I'd say my looks, overall, are average--possibly a hair above-average since I've been told I'm fairly symmetrical and have "good bone structure." My game is easily in top 5 percent, or higher, including online--and in basically every major area implicated therein, from date game, to apartment game, to ramble, to logistics. I live in a beautiful apartment and wear tailored designer clothing. I have professional-level pictures mixed in with "normal-looking" pictures that highlight my best features, my write-ups are top shelf, and I frequently get unsolicited compliments on my messages (as well as my profiles). You'd be hard-pressed to find a gap in my online game.

If looks are skewing your results--as I suspect they are--your atypical success may be be giving you skewed looked at the changing nature of online dating, the cliches, and other nuisances that matter to the average guy. It's well-known around here that online dating is increasingly rewarding the haves over the have-nots disproportionately. You, in others words, might be getting the pick of the litter--in which case you're not seeing the overall picture. You're too busy banging the hottest bitches to notice what else is going on.

Me too, but these girls don't have to date online. They have solid social circles, strong families, classy hobbies, educations, and good jobs, ect. Why would they subject themselves to dick pics, shirtless bathroom photos, 'wanna fuck' openers, busted ass dudes living at home, and 60 old men creeping? Online game is easy, quality girls aren't. In their life, quality vetted males are already in their circles without the drama.

I think personal results and the factors behind them are not really relevant in this discussion. The reason why we lament the rise of attention whoring is because of empathy for the millions of our fellow men who are getting screwed, not because it's personally troubling. My opinions on this subject would not budge an inch if I were getting laid 30 times a year (and I freely admit that I am not) - it's a matter of compassion, not personal benefit.

A physically attractive woman who is deficient in other important feminine qualities just doesn't cut it for me. Of course fucking the hot instagram yoga girl has a rewarding payoff, but what about a girl who has other positive qualities to go along with her tight butt? Frankly, expecting a girl to be in shape AND have a pleasant disposition isn't asking too much (in fact it's asking the bare minimum).

Are we as a society so resigned to low quality females that a girl merely has to be pretty and fit to receive unabashed praise from legions of thirsty hound dogs? Maybe if less men stopped constantly validating the vapid behavior, "attention whores" would have to up the stakes by, you know, adopting more appealing behavior to accompany their toned bodies.

I'd add that it's more than compassion, it's the root of "hacking" the problem. What guys with game do is first identify a problem, break it down (often by discussing it with like-minded men), and then come up with an adaptation that maximizes success under the new circumstances (also known as "game"). Men adapt, not just deny that anything is changing.

That's why it's silly to say "I'm doing fine, there's no problem," which speaks to larger issues. More disturbing is the attitude that guys having guy-talk about their local women (including their shortcomings which, given the conditions in some places, are numerous) is tantamount to "complaining" or leading an "unpleasant life." This is the kind of thing one expects to hear on mainstream female-friendly sites, not a place designed to avoid that resolutely positive--and therefore often inaccurate--worldview on everything.

I agree that being negative all the time can come across as gloom-and-doom, but that doesn't mean that everything that a non-fat American woman does is "sexy" and we "should be encouraging it."

I like threads like this because they serve a useful purpose for us. They serve to remind us of the fact that most of the women on Tinder (and other online dating sites) are not sincere. Not all, but most.

As Tut's screenshot above proves (the Tinder confession posted by some random chick), most women are there for validation. We need to remind ourselves of that all the time. Why?

Because it's necessary to keep a healthy balance. Men on the whole are rational, and operate from a rational perspective. We assume that if a chick is on Tinder, she's there for the purpose that the app was designed for (meet opposite sex for the purpose of getting laid). But most of them are not there for that.

And threads like this perform a useful function: helping keep morale up. Because, let's face it, knowing the truth about this stuff can be dark.

But even with all this, I do still think it's worth it to be on Tinder. For me, it's advantages outweigh its disadvantages. I've had good things happen with it. But you just can't expect too much. It should be one of your "irons in the fire" but not the only one.

You got to have "multiple streams" of access. Online, cold approaches, gym, clubs, public places, school, work.

Whatever. There are no rules any more. It's the brave new world. Got to be hustling, got to be working it, all the time.

It never stops. You're probably going to be doing this shit when you're 55, so get used to it. You never reach the end-zone, where you can slam the ball down and do a victory dance. The end point we should be reaching for is one of zen-like detachment, so that none of this bullshit bothers you. I'm not there yet. But I sure am trying.

This is the Age of Turbulence.

Right on Tuth-- identifying social patterns, brainstorming ideas, drafting new tactics, and sometimes commiserating with other men is what this forum is all about. Even if "attention whoring" is an intrinsic female behavior amplified by our modern society, I appreciate those of us willing to discuss it and not accept that a woman is good enough simply because she has a toned butt and can do downward dog.

Another note:

I really may have omitted a key element in my title. I call it the "new duckface," but it's also revealing itself to be a sort of new SIF-ing method too. I've seen a lot of girls with covertly dumpy bodies bust a handstand because it not only implies fitness, but conceals a few extra pounds. Yeah, you still can't be obese, but you can have a little pooch or saggy tits or something and get away with it. Add to that, that the pictures are often taken at a distance, or back-lighted, or something else.

The poses flex the body in such a way that it accentuates the muscles that might be legitimately lurk under that layer of fat. It uses gravity to hide bunching up that would happen if she were sitting or, by emphasizing the legs, distract the untrained eye from the general proportions (add "length"). There's also the simple implication that she's lives a "fit lifestyle," but really doesn't. This is similar to the fat girls who run one novelty 5K per year and show those pictures--as if to say, "this is my natural body shape."

She leaves out all the Starbucks Milkshakes and cronuts she eats the other 364 days of the year.
