+1 on star athletes getting a pass. There is a baptist university just down the road from me that every few years makes the news with questions about their football athletes and recruiting program. As I student I worked for the Athletics Department at a SUNY school where the tutoring center was housed. The tutors would do the homework for student-athletes, it was an open secret. Some football players I knew told me that it was impossible to get lower than a "C" even if the didn't go to class the whole semester.

I agree with the gist of your post, but not really with this. At best you could say that a very small % of members of select species are (situationally) bisexual.
