Buying First Proper Watch

My ancient and trusty Fossil watch died today and inspired by this thread, I've decided to pick up my first proper watch, presuming I find one that I like, while I'm in Hong Kong/Singapore when I go through there in a couple of months.

I'm not looking to spend an absolute fortune, around US$800 to US$1500. I've always liked the look of Longines in general, but I know nothing about watches, I just know I've seen a few of them that I like. I need to get one with a leather strap, but apart from that, I'm open to suggestions.

Any experts out there?

For that budget your best bet would probably be a Tissot. Superb swiss quality at a prices that won't rob you.

For that budget, my vote is for Tissot too.

Thanks for the information so far guys. Really appreicaite it.

Why no love for the Longines? Or are they out of my price range entirely?

One other question, if I can get something in 300 to 800 range that isn't a massive step down from from the 800 - 1500, what is the next step up?

I would wear a Longiness witha a suit at night or business, but for casual swooping during day game: Tissot, hands down.

I have had many watches, including a gold rolex bubbleback stolen from a hotel room. I was relieved because it was fragile. I never want another expensive watch.

Buy replicas from dealers at replica-watch.info.

I don't think expensive watches are a good investment for game. Replicas help you experiment cheaply with gaudy watches.

If I had the money, I'd buy one of these:

or

I've seen the Cartier one and it looks very stylish.

As already posted before; proceed with caution when buying replicas from overseas internet vendors in China - which 99% of the internet vendors are shipping their watches from.

It is very likely that CBP will seize your watch, and possibly fine you a ton of $$$ for infringement if they choose to come after you (not likely, but possible).

word to the wise... 'tis all.

lol you can snag a low end tag for around there but an Omega no way, I'd buy a few myself if I could find them in that range. For the op, I'd vote Tissot as well, it was my first higher end watch get and it served me well till I could afford to move up. For the price difference I still prefer Tissot to tag, tags got a lil cred with the younger crowd but overall the performance doesn't match the price tag.

I have a Longines HydroConquest and am very satisfied. I wear it every day. Quite casual diver's watch. Automatic, of course, and is fully in your price range. Tissot is quite good as well but one step below the Longines, in my opinion. And please buy a Swiss watch.

I stand corrected, that's the cheapest one I've ever seen. It's a good 300 bucks cheaper than anywhere else, good find if it were in stock and real.

I have to say I don't understand the appeal of automatics. I have an IWC Schaffhausen that my dad gave me, and I basically wear it all the time now, otherwise it looses time pretty badly.

A watch is about style, class and image, my cell phone can tell me what time it is. The only time function plays a part for me is when I'm looking at cost, if i'm spending 2k on a watch I want the better quality piece but if it were just about the time, I could get that a number of different ways and you're right more accurate ways. I haven't jumped into the super big leagues of the 5k+ watches yet, like the one you have I would've guessed the performance would've been better but guess not.
