Also, are you using electronics in the evening?

Melatonin is produced when there is no light. Therefore screens, tv/phone/computer cause your body to not produce melatonin naturally.

I have the exercise part more than taken care of. If anything, I need to take a day off from the gym once in a while. I have two clients coming in later today (assuming they don't flake), then the gym, then I'll take a melatonin and try to get some sleep. Hopefully, this all fixes itself in a few days and I'll report back.

Doxylamine succinate, 25mg tablets, any CVS. Take half a tablet and it guarantees an 8 hour+ sleep. It's a great tool to force a change in sleep schedule if you've finished a run of all-nighters or you've just changed timezone. I've been taking it 2-3 times a week since September and it works beautifully.

A very effective, homemade wake up drink: A glass (or two) of room temperature water with a squeezed lemon wedge. I use unflavored seltzer water.

From personal long term experience I can easily recommend you stay away from Rx level sleeping meds. I have been using them for about 20 years now on and off, sometimes for months at a time (every night) but the quality of the sleep they give a person is poor.

Sure you will do something like sleep but its not natural sleep and its not good for you as a regular method of dropping off.

I do in fact get terrible nightmares from taking benzos ( a type of Rx drug used for sleeping disorders) so I have to be particularly desperate now to use them.

The thing I find works best for insomnia is weed, believe it or not. Nothing in this world makes me sleep like weed does. Good clean rest, good healthy dreams and I wake up feeling refreshed as long as I don't over do the THC intake which I sometimes enjoy doing on the weekends.

The only real side effect of note with weed is it makes a man lazy if he is not careful. So keep this in mind please.

I do not use weed every day in case anyone is wondering and I use a vaporizer mostly now days so I don't ave to deal with particulate matter clogging my lungs.

its not for everyone and YMMV but for me it works a great and I have 20 years of personal research to base my opinion on.

Last night, I took a melatonin. Two and a half hours after taking the pill, I felt a little drowsy, but still couldn't get to sleep. I then took a 25 mg tablet of Doxlamine succinate and slept o.k., but not great. I also feel nowhere near as well as I did about a week ago. It's like even with a lot of good sleep, I will still have to catch up for what those days of getting little or no sleep did to me.

I used melatonin awhile ago. I think it was 3mg a night/as needed. I think it worked well. It is probably the safest of sleep aids, however, I have read that you should not overuse it. There is not a direct dependency issue, but you should not be dependent on pills to sleep. My sister also tried it awhile ago after having trouble sleeping, and would be out for over 10 hours, which is not exactly good. I actually should probably get another bottle as I have had trouble sleeping lately.

I also have found holy basil can help calm you down as a partial sleep aid.

I got Stilnoct now since a month back and is using it one or two times a week, it's great for me. One pill makes me fall asleep, and I will also wake up in a reasonable time. It won't give me a great sleep so the next day I'll be tired and will fall asleep naturally. If I use it two night in a row I'll wake up several times during the second night. It's pretty addictive medicine so the doctors are usually not to keen on giving it. Before I had it I would sleep really bad and never have a proper sleeping routine. Now I do and I'm really glad for it.

I've taken two 25 mg tablets of doxylamine succinate each of the last two nights and I slept pretty well. I feel much better than I did this time last week. The only times between now and the Mayweather fight when I have to wake up early are this Friday and the Friday after that.

Good sleep hygiene - cool, humidified room / 100% dark / quality bed / ZERO electronics.

You can combine it with breakfast and checking out the web in the morning, answering emails and so on. You have to take some time for breakfast anyway, right? It may not be 30 minutes, but it's probably going to be 10-15 minutes no matter what. So at most you might be forced to wake up 15 minutes earlier or so if you are on a tight schedule. That's really no big deal.

I saw an iHome bluetooth alarm clock with a light therapy bar at Costco the other day. Wakes you up gently.

I've actually had some good luck scoring light therapy lamps at thrift stores. They're nice to have in the winter for the morning routine, as mentioned above.

I found diphenhydramine quite effective back in the day, other methods to optimize sleep are likely going to be a lot better, but drug wise, diphenyhydramine worked better for me than benzos, with less side effects, though still quite a few.

Ear plugs have really changed my sleeping habits for the better. I live in a noisy area with construction going on, but If I put in the plugs the only thing that wakes me up is my alarm, and that's only because I put it right next to my pillow.

What's more is that I wake up totally rested since I get 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep.

I"ve tried zzzquil, melatonin and all that stuff, but the earplugs have really been the most effective for me.

There is a good german brand called Ohropax. Check it out.

I picked up the habit in undergrad when I lived in the dorms and haven't looked back.

Guys have already mentioned ZMA but it's great and has improved the quality of my sleep. Gives you some wicked powerful dreams, too.

Chamomile tea can help. It definitely takes the edge off and is dirt cheap, to boot.

As far as sleep hygiene is concerned, I would recommend getting into a daily ritual before you knock off for the night. Laughter helps -- I've found watching a funny TV show or funny clip on Youtube helps me relax. I also recommend reading -- either a light fiction novel or something easy on the brain. I always catch up on sports scores and news before I go to bed. Nothing can help you fall asleep quite like reading some of the painfully dull minds at ESPN.

I have bouts of insomnia sometimes after a hard workout (and usually my workout is 5+ hours BEFORE I go to bed). It's frustrating. I feel like I have wasted my workout because if I'm not sleeping that night, then my muscles don't have the time to rest/rebuild.

I have tried Melatonin, Valerian Root, ZMA and OTC Unisom. I don't like taking the Unisom as it makes me drowsy the next day. Melatonin and Valerian Root really never had an affect on me. The only thing that has worked is ZMA. I still have my nights where I can't sleep (last night for instance) but for the most part ZMA makes me drowsy about an hour after taking it and I usually fall asleep 99% of the time.

The real Red Pill Truth about having trouble falling asleep, unless you have a real medical condition, is that you aren't doing enough during the day to be tired enough to fall asleep at night.

This is a simple honest, be real with yourself, truism.
If you let go of your ego, you know I am right.

There are 2 aspects of fatigue, Mental and Physical.

Have you spent at least 2 hours today really pushing your brain?
How about 2 hours today really pushing your body?

Our mind and physical temple are not as weak and prone to over-training as the world would like you to believe.
Of course if you are not pushing yourself daily, you will not be tired and ready for deep sleep at night.

Alternate your daily physical activity to avoid burn-out.
Martial Arts, Yoga, Weightlifting, Sports, Cardio.

Switch up your mental exercises too.
Learning a new language, skill, musical instrument, technical feat.

Stop watching Television and playing Video Games - period.
Literally 0 minutes a day on that BS.
Push your brain and body daily, sleep like a King and reap the massive rewards.

Because sleeping pills won't take you into deep sleep. And deep sleep is where our immune system are recharged. In the long term sleeping pills could cause to several types of cancers. This is because of the weakness of our immune system it develops.
