Knitted linen blazers - yay or nay?

Knitted linen blazers - yay or nay?

I bought an Italian linen blazer online and it got here and I'm caught between liking it and not sure. Here it is:

http://www.yoox.com/us/39504484HP/item?d...HP&sizeId=

It's knitted weave....basically like certain sweaters. So, it's not like normal linen type weave. Almost net-like. In a sense, it's almost like a cardigan cut in the shape of a blazer I suppose. I was a little thrown for this knitted weave.

It has steel buttons and is very slim fit. Fortunately I have a slim/athletic build.

Also, the chest pocket is really small so my pocket squares stick out more than usual...so I'm debating just rocking a sticking out pocket square or no square at all.....that is, if I keep it.

Was going to be one of my spring blazers. Yay or nay?

Props to you if you can bring that off. I certainly couldn't. You would have to be congruent with the whole Italian menswear look and persona.

It looks good although I wouldn't buy any blazer that isn't tailor made.

Perhaps you can get go to a tailor and get that adjusted after it gets delivered.

We'd get a better impression if it was modelled, so it's fleshed out so-to-speak.

From the description of your build, it would probably look ok though.

Personally, I'm more of a fan of the unstructured blazer, such as this

That's an interesting piece-could look really good with the right shirt and pants. It's a casual sport coat obviously and should be great for spring.

I would try it on with all sorts of shirt and pant combos and see what pops. I'm sensing some casual pants like chinos in a non khaki color like white, burgundy, green or yellow might work. But try it with dressier pants too-maybe with a plaid pattern. Light gray, white or blue jeans might work.

For shirts try to go more casual. Maybe something with a pattern. A solid t shirt in silk or cotton could work well. Or a polo.

This is basically what is known as a "jersey blazer". It's a very casual, unstructured style that often doesn't even have buttons on the sleeves. Treat it as such like it's something you just threw on. I don't think I would wear a pocket square with it, as that is trying to dress up what is intended to be a dressing down piece.

Now I'm wanting one......

Would look great tailored.

Really depends on the look though.

^It basically came tailored if that makes sense.

That is...it hugs my body so close...like a tight sweater, that it certainly doesn't need to be tailored more trim. If anything, it could be loosened perhaps a tad, but probably not.

As far as where the seam is on the shoulders...it's perfect...right where it should be.

Maybe, I'll bring it by my tailor for her opinion.

I tried to post pics but for some reason, the pics I'm trying to post just shows like "jpg boxes" on the "preview post" option so I don't know if that's my computer or what....

Looks nice, I'd agree it would work well with some white pants or light blue jeans/chinos.

Apologies to hijack the thread, I tried this on at the weekend and was a bit undecided, what's everyone's thoughts on the blazer?

I have a few pieces from Etro and they usually get positive comments but I couldn't make my mind up on this one.
Feedback appreciated.

Yay, but only for the truly dedicated. This isn't a look that you just throw on one day.

I'll wear stuff like that, but for me it's dressing down, because I literally wear suit jackets every day as casual wear.

The knitted blazer is for the days when I don't give a fuck.

^ Suits,

Yeah...I was considering it for my "casual Friday" fare...

I'm thinking with plaid/patterned spring colored collared shirts and either white chinos or grayish wool pants with muted plaid pattern. Sound about right?

Wondering with what complimentary clothing/accessories you would rock it?

I'd have to actually see a completed outfit to have a strong opinion on what "works," but I would definitely try it with the grey pants (with muted plaid pattern or even a plain grey pair). If you are wearing very drab pants (such as grey), you can definitely get away with spring colours for the shirt, especially if it is spring/summer. But lose that brightness by October and mix in some dark shirts, as I discuss below.

Generally, if the blazer fits well, keeping other details subtle is a good direction.

If you are wearing a jacket that stands out in no special way, then a louder (or more detailed shirt) is called for, but if you are wearing a blazer that's going to draw attention all by itself (and a form-fitting Italian cut blazer like this should), I'd avoid distracting from that.

I'd think a darker colour shirt (purple) with just the base colour or a very subtle pattern would be nice. Normally, I might pair pink with a blue of this colour, but I think that doing it with this blazer would be too much for one outfit, unless you are hitting a club and want to stand out as much as possible.

A knitted blazer often goes well with jeans.

If it's summer, I would definitely put a wool blazer with white pants for a maritime look, but I'd be hesitant to do this with a knit blazer, because it's a completely different look. I'd have to see it to know what I think, but I'd lean away from it.

Depending on the shirt colour, properly cut brown pants would be a safe bet (but not with purple, as I suggested above). Brown pants, blue blazer, light blue shirt with a subtle, but noticeable weave would be nice.

If you want to go in an eccentric direction and have the personality to suit it, I'd be curious to see what this blazer would look like with red pants and a white shirt. I'd definitely wear it like that, just for fun. Spring and summer only, of course.

The nice thing about this blazer is that it should be good for year round wear, because it's probably pretty breathable and blue can go with both spring/summer colours and fall/winter colours.

I have this one:

They're pretty dapper. They're soft and warm if you need warmth, kinda like a sweater, but they're also so light and breathable that you wouldn't be able to get too warm and sweat in them. Also there's something about that material or the way this one is cut because it simply falls PERFECTLY on my upper body, which can't be said for most other types of blazers that I try on, and I got an athletic build. Lower build still needs to get tailored tighter but even then it still falls well enough when I'm standing.

Also it's kind of a visual confusion for people because it LOOKS like a suit blazer, and it kind of is, but it also looks like a sweater, and it kind of is, so which is it? Keeps them busy thinking.

P.S. It is REALLY hard to tell how they actually look, feel and wear like from pictures alone, for anyone wondering you'd really need to just find one and try it on in real life

^Nice looking one. What's the name brand? Do you have a link/website to purchase one?

I've decided mine is a bit too short in the body for my tall ass. It's going back to Yoox.

It was from René Lezard. This pic links to this site: http://www.wertheimvillage.com/en/campai...mans-world but I found the blazer randomly looking in shops. And it's good for tall people like myself too. I usually buy the 9# sizes of suites instead of the 5# sizes
