That's about as good as it's ever going to get.

Hah, yes! That is exactly what I was trying to say but couldn't spit it out.

Also...SXSW is starting to pay dividends!

A girl I met there (the one from the last night that wanted to bang, but logistics didn't work out) has been keeping in touch with me. She invited me to fly out and go party with her in Miami next month.

I am going to have a hard time saying no to that...

This thread has singlehandedly made me start looking seriously at Austin as a place to work after graduation. Looking at apartments under $2000/mo to split w. my redpill friend near 6th St. downtown.

Go for it man. When i first moved to Texas I didn't really like Austin, but its grown on me. It's still overcrowded/sprawly for what the city was originally designed for, but the combo of good paying jobs/great weather/relatively low cost of living and hot, friendly feminine girls makes Austin a much better deal than overrated coastal cities for recent grads. If you can actually save money while still living in a cool city and going out every night, that's gold. Austin (and Dallas) lets you do that.

If you're red pill, another benefit is that while Austin has its share of SJWs and self-righteous libs, there is also a strong contingent of people who don't buy into the cultural marxist shit.

That is awesome man. I honestly believe if you're in the right place
and you really "work it" then you'll start to fill up your pipeline
with many opportunities:-)

That's also another good reason to focus on making money ASAP so you
have the flexibility to travel and you can "arrange" the required logistics
for any situation that develops...(insert diabolical laugh here:-)

I was there for a day when I took a drunk middle of the night road trip this year from San Antonio to Austin with friends. I was disappointed I couldn't stay longer but this datasheet is 100% on point. I also frequent 6th Street occasionally though I haven't done it this year. I can't exactly give you the best spots as I hang with a college crowd based around the UT campus, but it's more of a once in half a year thing. Austin is one of those cities that will have an awesome party life in the next couple of years until the SJWs decide Austin is the new San Francisco. More and more of them poisoning the city [Image: sad.gif]

Good to hear. I've been to Austin each summer for the past couple of years, so it's not a completely unknown entity. However, it's just been for a weekend or so, for a recurring business trip. I'd be moving from DC, so I can't wait to breathe the fresh air.

SXSW 2016 is March 10 -19.

Most good hotels are $500-1000 a night.

Super 8 is $250 and Extended Stay America is $279. Absolutely insane.

There are a FEW that have not adjusted their rates yet, and are charging standard rates during that time. I made a booking this morning (if I don't end up going I'll just cancel).

Never are hotel rates that high without it being an awesome event. Book now!

Simple trick for this that I used this year. Hotel points. Get a credit card that gives you hotel points (Marriott is a good one) and then use the points for your room. While the room price may jump from $250 to $700 the "point price" will stay the same.

I stayed at the Courtyard off 4th which is as central as you can possibly get and it cost the normal 30,000 points per night.

Funny enough, I decided to stay an extra day(due to a girl of course) and was out of points so I Pricelined a 4 star downtown and got a room at the W for $160. No clue how that happened since the W is normally $400+ but from what I have been hearing the last weekend of SXSW is when you can pick up some decent last minute hotel deals.

^^^^^^^Before booking my hotel I checked the starwood site and no hotels had points availability for any of the 2016 SXSW days.

Starwood sucks for points travel, always have. I should have mentioned this, I tried them as well and ran into the same issue this year. Starwood also only has the two properties downtown... the W which is great but outrageous in terms of price/points and the Sheraton which is reasonable but not as well located.

Marriott and Hilton are the most represented downtown.

Something else to keep in mind, if you aren't getting a hotel RIGHT near the action (easy walk) then you are going to UBER or Cab home anyway and may as well stay further out at that point.

Going to Austin second weekend of August and I can hardly wait.

Apparently from all the people I've asked who live in Austin, Rainey Street has decisively become the scene to be at in Austin. Can anyone here confirm?

I'm also trying to calibrate style; what Sevens mentioned in his posts sounds doable but really hot: v-neck T-shirt, jeans, and boots. Please advise.

I'm staying in a hotel on South Congress right on the river. May the Father of Logistics shine favorably upon my gaming.

Rainey Street is pretty hot now but it all depends on the age range and type you are looking for. Eastside has a lot of action but your logistics will be harder. And there is always Dirty ^th for young drunk girls. West 6th for the slightly older crowd. Your biggest issue is going to be getting them in an Uber with you at the end of the night. Your hotel isn't walkable (for lazy Texas girls) from any of the places you'll be picking up. One thing you might try is to scout out a bar called EGOs before hand. It is a total dive but walkable to your hotel. Worth trying to get girls to bounce with you to that place. The only other place I can think of is Aussies but that would be an almost impossible sell late at night.

Good luck, Austin's great, you'll have a blast.

I've lived in downtown Austin for over a decade now so feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Rainey is one of a kind but seems hit or miss. When it hits, the place is absolutely bumping and it's a blast. When it misses it's a total dud.

Good news is you'll walk for 3 minutes around Rainey and be able to figure out if it's the place you should be that night. If not you can just walk or pedi cab to 6th. No big risk here.

6th seems to be more consistent. Tons and tons of bars, and you're sure to find one that fits your vibe.

Style wise: what do you mean by "really hot?"

If you mean that wearing jeans/long pants will be hot...then yeah you might be warm, but for the love of the player gods please don't be trying to pick up girls while wearing shorts!

But who knows, maybe you are one of those 1 in 1000 guys who can look cool in shorts. I know I'm not one of them.

Looking sharp in Austin will help you, but remember it's still Texas. You want to look hip and cool relative to Texas, not like you belong in NYC or Miami.

Thanks for the advice Sevens. We'll try and use Thursday night to calibrate and survey the scene, then nail down Friday and Saturday nights.

Gonna have to respectfully disagree. I dress very French/Euro and I get a lot of love here. Being original is a huge plus in a place that is very cookie cutter in terms of appearence. Sure if you can rock a cowboy hat(I can't but if you can) or a polo that shows of your muscle sure you'll have girls coming up to you and turning heads, but originality is always going to get you love.

I can vouch for 6th and it's the best place in town unless you can hop on the UT party train. I've heard mixed reviews about Rainey. Go there on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays and you'll figure out if you have a feel for the place as those days are the days you'll see the character of a place.

Great post, thanks.

Would a 32 y/o English guy from London do well in Austin? Or is it more younger focused, like under 25's?

Seriously looking at Austin for a week early October.

You'd do fine in Austin but the first two weekends in October are ACL Fest. That means the downtown will be packed with young women but hotels will jump in price.

Thanks. Yes I noticed soon after writing this. It's like £2k a week. Which is just insane even with the £ vs $.

I guess this is now kind of the Austin datasheet, since all the others are now too old. I was there last weekend, tried to meet up with some forum members, but was unable to coordinate both due to his constant dates in the evenings (game recognized, bro), as well as my work keeping me.

That said, I was able to hit up a lot of the great restaurants in the city, the Alamo, and did a complete walk down 6th Street, from one end of East to the end of West by the Whole Foods HQ.

The scene was overall pretty muted, but I was largely expecting this. UT was not in session, and what I saw was a lot of mid/late 20s social groups from work. Generally in groups of 3-5, usually one girl, maybe two, and multiple guys.

I'm gonna wager these are largely the NYC/SF/LA startup folks that are flocking here now, because the city is now the new hip place to be, and the 'hip' factor attracts these kinds of people like a 5 to thirsty simps.

Opened a couple of sets here and there throughout the weekend, but nothing really stuck because work was always pressing on me.

Had a Tinder date set but she flaked due to "work", fortunately I had awesome backup plans set, sort of in anticipation for it. Still, as with most first time flakes, I keep the number and warm goodbye, I'll reopen... when I'm next in Austin I suppose.

I also had the feeling, cosigned by local members, that my hotel, even though right across the river in SOCO (South Congress), was a bit too much from 6th St. Something to keep in mind as I start to poke around for places to live.

The promise and pull of this city is still very much there for me, despite an off weekend. I've experienced enough to give me heart, and I trust Sevens' experiences as well.

What's up with the crazy high airbnb rental prices in Austin?

Almost everything downtown is at least $250 per night, if not closer to $1000 per night...

I'll probably be in town for it. I'll find or improvise a place to stay worst case I can just drive home 3 hours away at 5 AM after the after parties.
