Seriously though if you want to learn Spanish, step 1 is download all of Pimsleur Spanish and do it every day for 30 minutes until you complete it, 90 days later.

This is a must if you are starting from scratch. It is not enough on its own but it is without a doubt the best 30 minutes a day you can spend studying.

In 90 days, the full length of the courseyou will speak Spanish.

Download it an do course one today.

What would a rich families reaction to their daughter getting knocked up by a gringo be? Shot or nice job and wife package?

Being upper class Colombians, all they probably care about is their grand kid inheriting your blond hair and blue eyes, they would probably even be willing to over look all of the STDs you're gonna give her!
Is that true? Not the std part.

To a certain extent, yes and I think that it goes for all of the Latin American countries and also the Philippines, it goes back to the colonial days where whiter was (is?) better. You go to SE Asia and you can't find face cream that doesn't have whitening in it, go to Jamaica and hear about people "bleaching out" (Ex: Vybez Kartel). In the higher end night clubs and restaurants where the upper classes hang out, you'll notice that the people tend to be taller and whiter. Also down here you have the "estrato system" where neighbourhoods are designated a number from 1-6, its officially a way to determining the amount of money households pay for public utilities but unofficially its a way of dividing each area by class. An estrato 5/6 neighbourhood pays way more than a 1/2 for their water, electricity, etc. The whole class system down here is a bit fucked and it took myself awhile to wrap my head around it. Atlantic's girl is likely an estrato 5/6.

It also depends how high up she is. There are a lot of variations beyond the merely somewhat rich threshold.
The upper level elite are frequently educated in US boarding schools and universities. They'll socialize and marry for the most part within their own socioeconomic circle, which consists entirely of Caucasians. Just being white isn't something magical to them, as they would never consider it acceptable to get with someone of dark skin to begin with.
As for getting shot or being welcomed into the family if you knock her up, it is likely to be neither. Unless she actually wants to be a mother, she would just terminate the pregnancy without ever telling you in the first place. High society girls don't need to snag/trap a gringo, and their wealth/connections/world view give them the means and motive to abort if it's not convenient for them.
Your best bet is just to take things as they come, and not have any expectations for the relationship if there is to be one. Anything is possible.

Didn't even have to game that much which is how it should be really. I must just be her type because the attraction level is very high which is obviously a very nice feeling when its a hot Colombian girl.

Is there a better feeling than killing it without feeling like you're trying? (rhetorical question)

I just sent Atlantic the Michel Thomas course. Haven't used/don't have Pimsleur. I'm going through Michel Thomas and it has a nice gradual learning curve.

Good answer VolandoVengoVolandoVoy. I was making a joke but good to have the social background context.
Ya this girls spent a few years in Miami but doesn't seem to have picked up any of the bad habits.

Out of curiosity have you guys met many foreigners who have done that? Came down and got married into a wealthy upper class Colombian family?

Yes, I met a cool guy that met his fiance in college in the US. He was just a regular guy getting his degree in accounting. He flew down with her to Medellin to meet her family. He didn't know she was wealthy until he arrived and noticed the drivers, maids, fincas, etc. She seemed really nice and down to earth. They were both the same age and seemed a good "fit" other than her being wealthy and him not.

Edit: Atlantic, you're already thinking about marriage?

I recall reading something which suggested to be in the top 1% of tax payers in Colombia you only had to make the equivalent of $60,000 USD a couple years ago. So while she may appear rich based on what she has (maid, driver etc.) She probably isn't rich or remotely so if she were to live in the 1st world. It's all relative. My guess is the maid is 3-600 a month, the driver a similar amount. A personal trainer probably less as I doubt it's every day (perhaps $150-$200 / month). All those things probably only cost $1,000-$1,500 a month. Just to put it in perspective you are probably far richer than her in terms of income Atlantic. She just lives in a place where they can pay workers much less. I wouldn't even be thinking about marriage, you are the catch not her!

I will tell you soon cause that is my new job. I am going to train her and some of her friends. Maybe teach them some English too. I start with her in a few weeks but maybe sooner with the friends.

I am about to email the English teaching crowd and quit. Fuck em, its too much preparation and hassle.

Think you've made the right decision Atlantic.

Could be a good number combining something you enjoy, training, whilst getting paid and also the chance of a bit personal EFL tuition within her social circle of upper class friends, win win.

You been working heavy, stressed, constant since I first recall Irishman, time you enjoyed some fruits of your labour. Do the Brazil thing with LINUX too, enjoy some of your youth, memories last forever!

Oil Sands are going to be there for most of our lifetimes, plenty time to earn that shitload.

Congrats on your team kicking our arses and winning the six nations too. Edinburgh will be Green and White tonight, I like that!

You'd be better off spelling Colombia correctly first before you go teaching English.

Who cares? This isn't a spelling forum.

My Iphone spells out Columbia in place of Colombia all the time.

@linux, many people do care about the little things, such as spelling. From girls to employers. Yes, I see your point, in the big picture it really doesn't but if you plan on teaching it does matter. As for colombia, if you want to bang the whores and lower class girls spelling won't matter. If you are able to go out with more educated upper class girls they will label you as a typical disrespectful gringo and you won't be fixing that.
For them it will be a sign of disrespect. Trust me, I have been living here for almost 2 years. Make the effort, it's not much work on your end.

I'm definitely a little dyslexic and haven't be having much trouble with upper class girls. Anyway lets not turn this into a spelling thread.

Both Scotian and getdownonit pulled home hot girls last night from the club while I slept solo in the maids room. Scotian met them at gringo T and getdownonit winged her friend perfectly. I went for club make outs instead on focusing on just getting a girl home first which wasn't a great tactic.

Also my main girl mentioned today like its no big deal that she is heading on holidays abroad very soon for 10 days with her male housemate. Only half an hour earlier she got jealous in public cause I said hello to two girls clearly doing a walk of shame (holding club shoes and messy hair and clothes). So quite the double standard of behavior there. I don't care too much and am obviously playing on the side too so whatever.

Not to say that Rolas aren't capable of cheating, but I have found that in terms of jealousy, they often give back what they get.

Ie. if you try to make them jealous, they'll do the same to you, but if you don't, they won't.

Total opposite of American girls where making them jealous typically leads to them wanting you more and getting clingier.

Obviously this is not a steadfast rule but just one nice aspect of the culture that generally makes your life easier there.

I can vouch for Fluenz too. I haven't tried Pimsleur but had success with Fluenz. I lived in Central America on/off for 5 years and it built a good foundation that allowed me to say most anything I needed to. It's not cheap, but worth the $ IMO. You can pirate the first 2 levels from PB, but the good stuff is in 3,4,5.
