Color matching

If you want to match colors to your skin tone and hair color you need to learn about cool colors, warm colors, light colors, soft colors and and so on and this seems like a very poor way to organize the knowledge.

Why isn't there simply a table where you find your skin tone and hair color and see all colors which match.

You could match it to which 'mood' you are trying to inspire using the fact that certain colors invoke certain emotions (allegedly people in tv use those same rules when picking what characters wear).

Does anyone on here advise people on style? What tools do you use, what tools do you wish you had?

If you're going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It's the only good fight there is.

From what I've seen seems like color has less hard rules than other aspects of style. You have to see what works for you, and if you are confident you have much more room for error. Two beginner articles I found helpful are:

http://masculine-style.com/color-basics/

http://www.kinowear.com/a-beginners-guid...headaches/

This takes time though you have to see what outfits work with your skin tone and vibe. Make sure you have the basics (dark jeans, navy blazer, white shirt, brown/black shoes, etc) and then work your way out from there.

It is important when you buy a new item of clothing to think about how it fits in colour wise with the rest of your wardrobe, especially pants/shoes.

Or you could just wear a lot of black like I've been doing lately.

I find all this talk about color types way too complicated. I'm a pale person and depending on the lighting, what I've eaten, how hydrated I am, etc. the undertone of my skin can appear yellow, blue or green. And the color of my eyes changes between blue, green and grey. So I respect a much simpler rule: when you're pale, don't wear black, white or hues. Stick to shades, tints and tones. This is a hard rule for me but from there on I just pick what looks good to me.

I'd been meaning to do a write up about this for a while, here's a pic I planned on using in my post. Might as well drop it here.

If you are going to impose your will on the world, you must have control over what you believe.
