Ten cloves a day? Seriously? Dude. Yeh, I bet you reek of garlic. Ease up a bit and switch to an aged garlic supplement that won't make you smell so bad you kill everything within 5 meters. The aged stuff is better for your heart and circulatory system. I wonder if you have a selenium deficiency that's causing you to crave it. Garlic and onions are naturally high in selenium.

My little brother would do stuff like that when he was 10 - 12. He would literally sweat garlic funk out of his pores when he'd go on a garlic or onion binge like that. It was repugnant.

ordered some from Vitacost.

looked at costco and a few other places.

odd thing is that a lot of the places have curiously labeled bottles. they claim 1,000 mg but the pills are only 500 mg and their label has a recommended serving of 2 tablets. so the bottle might have 100 tablets but you need to take 4 tablets to get 2,000 mg. Some folks recommend 3000 mg so you are going to need 2 bottles to last a month!

if it reduces chronic inflammation, arthritis, and is an anti-oxidant, its still a tremendous value. but I thought others would benefit.

curiously, this seems to be the labeling convention in the industry; its not just a one brand that labels this way.

Some places sell fresh turmeric root. You can pick up like 6oz for 4-5 bucks. If you juice, just throw a root snub into your juicer!

like i said, i take in my morning smoothy. you can add it to some vegetables that you suatee or stews, but otherwise its hard to take regularly. also, you want to take it with regular pepper. pepper has an ingredient that makes the tumeric effective; the oover the counter supplements include this so if you take it natual then be sure to take pepper also

I bought a big bag of the largest empty capsules online. The biggest size are called Double 00. Vcaps. Gelatin capsules.

Then I put a huge amount of turmeric in a metal mixing bowl, poured in a ton of black pepper, mixed them up and put them together by hand.

In the morning after breakfast which is usually eggs and meat with lots of coconut oil, plus I pour some flaxseed oil over the top, I take my pills.

Best absorption is turmeric + black pepper + oils. Ive found it energizes me and keeps my shoulder and knee in good shape, both of which have had serious injuries and the shoulder had major surgery.

The other way is to cook with it but the flavor is very strong. I did broccoli stir fried with turmeric and pork stir fried with turmeric but again, its a strong bitter flavor. Pill it up with lots of pepper, take it with oily meals.

what ball said.

you can add it to things like stews, or maybe sauteed onions or scallions, things like that, but the flavor will change and its difficult to get enough, and even more difficult to get it every day this way and with black pepper.

its cheaper and generally better to take things in natural form but it would be very hard to take it consistently.

personally, i have been taking it for a few weeks then got off routine and have gone 2 weeks without any supplements. I have seen fewer aches and pains, although I still have frequent allergic responses to things like dust (which is a symptom of inflamation). So I am pleased, but I have also generally cut back significantly on wheat and alcohol. Need to get back in the groove of taking supplements..

Guys, just make a curry.

Fry onions, garlic, ginger, mix in the spices, sear the meat, add water and put in slow/pressure cooker.

Edit: Dahl is also the easier thing in the world to eat with turmeric.

Agreed, I remedy the potential teeth staining with a two step brushing process. 2 minutes of 1/4 spoon activated charcoal, then brush with dry toothpaste obtained from health shop, my teeth are amazingly white and have never done a professional cleaning etc.

As for the Tumeric in food, here in Europe the Mediterranean diet is law, When I make my salads, I make a type of vinaigrette of which is almond butter, turmeric, cayenne pepper, black pepper, cinnamon and olive oil, it's delicious and health, have a go.

Careful with this supplement. It can stain teeth yellow and it like to stain around the gums. It required a heavy duty power washing/dental aqua pick to get it off. Ideally you brush around the gums soon after you take it.

easier to just add it to your food while cooking.

I doubt you all are cooking Indian or Asian foods, so for white food just add a bit to your meats or veggies or your rice while cooking.

This is a boss tip. I love eating tumeric in stir fries and suchlike but it turns anything it touches orange.

I went one step further and found 000 size capsules. Easy enough to fill with powder, and not terrible to swallow (come at me with the faggot jokes [Image: gay.gif] ) Will pick up some black pepper this afternoon and get the rest filled.

Pro tip: A workshop airline is ideal for 'dusting off' the capsules to make sure there's no orange dye lying in wait on the exteriors after filling.

I love cooking with Tumeric when I'm making Stews or Soups. I find it gives a thickness and texture to what I'm making that's quite good. I would highly recommend people experiment to which foods it adds actual taste or texture value, since it will go down a lot easier.

Warning though, soups and stews made with Tumeric will STAIN almost anything it touches, so be careful when you're eating and cooking it.

Thanks to this thread I've been throwing some raw turmeric in my green smoothies. I've learned so much about health from RVF.

A couple questions:
1) Would I be better off taking supplements with black pepper instead of putting it in my smoothie? I could also try putting black pepper in my smoothie but that seems disgusting.
2) How much turmeric should I put in my smoothie? I've been cutting off a chunk about the size of my thumbnail. I also put ginger in my smoothies and use about the size of my whole thumb for that.

I think its always best to take most things naturally, but tumeric needs pepper to be absorbed. That's fine for the occassional stew or sauteed onions, but not a green smoothie. Also, its hard to consume the same quantity, especially every day, since it has a strong flavor even without the pepper.

Here is a link to some supplements. The serving size is 2 tablets to get to 1160 mg., so this is really just a 30 day supply. About $11-15/month.

But if you are prone to chronic inflammation, this is a good insurance policy for your health especially if it allows you to forego acetiminophen or other toxic pain relievers.

Here is an article about why you should take tumeric with pepper:
