Woman gives birth to Down Syndrome Child. Tells Husband, if we keep baby = divorce

What a bitch. The kid with Down Syndrome did his dad a great service and saved him from a life of misery and having to take care of a human anchor.

Forrest followed doctors and nurses into a room where he'd finally get to meet his baby.

"When I walked into the room they all turned to me and said 'Leo has Down syndrome," he told ABC News. "I had a few moments of shock."

After the news had sunk in, Forrest held Leo for the very first time.

"They took me in see him and I looked at this guy and I said, he's beautiful -- he's perfect and I'm absolutely keeping him."

Soon Forrest walked into his wife's hospital room with Leo in his arms.

Her reaction was unlike one he ever expected.

"I got the ultimatum right then," he said. "She told me if I kept him then we would get a divorce."

Attempts to reach the hospital for comment weren't immediately successful. The baby's mother, Ruzan Badalyan, told ABC News that she did have a child with Down syndrome and she has left her husband, who has the child, but she declined to elaborate.

Aren't there ways to tell if the kid has down syndrome while it's still a fetus? Then you can abort without having to wait 9 months?

Yeah, I thought that is why most couples wait until a certain point to announce their pregnancy, so if there is something "wrong" they could abort without letting the whole world know.

I read about this in the paper on my way home from the gym today.
There was a line about how the mother didn't want to eschew the values of her family.

Hell, any woman who's willing to advocate tradition over bleeding heart compassion gets a point in my book.

I just feel bad for the father because his life's finished now. Or at least his life as he knew it. He's going to have to subjugate his needs, desires and happiness for the next 20+ years.

If you can't handle a potentially negative outcome you shouldn't be having kids in the first place. There's no guarantee anyone's kids are gonna be healthy. Selfish bitch.

Tradition ? What about responsibility? And the risks that are involved with a pregnancy ? [Image: dodgy.gif]

In the US they test for Down's a couple times routinely during pregnancy, 1st trimester and again at around 20 weeks. If you're in the US and you give birth to a kid with Down's, the doctors all know well before the birth happens.

I read the story and saw this was in Armenia so I have no idea what the prenatal care would have been. Apparently standard practice is to send these kids to an orphanage?

Down's is a shit sandwich to get dealt. 99% of Down's kids are mentally retarded. Life expectancy now is 50's, maybe 60's, but if you live that long you're extremely likely to end up with dementia and congenital heart problems. The guy is trying to do the honorable thing, but fuck, it's not just 20 years, he's going to be taking care of this kid the rest of his life.

It depends on the severity of the defect, and how much the paretns work on the children since his birth. Most of down symdrome kids grows to semi-funtional adults if they are well raised.

I think his life will become better not having his bitch of a wife in the picture. Its just pure selfishness at this point to do something like this. The kid didn't come out perfectly that matches up to what she envisioned as the "perfect life".

Sure, he'll have a down syndrome kid, but those are often looked highly upon nowadays. He'll have "hero status". The guy is a man, he adapts to his situation instead of taking the easy way out. He takes responsibility instead of avoids it.

And its not really the next 20 years, its a lifetime commitment.

Lamentable as it may be, taking personal responsibility for a conscious decision is becoming a rarity.
Whether or not she made the 'right' choice could be argued back and forth relative to the situation and what we know of what transpired.
This happened in a region of the world I'm culturally naive about so I can't comment on the belief system and family values of the people.
But at the end of the day she appears to be prioritizing her desire to have healthy children. And considering the massive burden that a child with Down's Syndrome can have on a family, it's not something I can't understand.

It wont be that different from having a 'healthy' millennial child who will live in their parents' basement for 28 years anyways.

The only difference is the kid with down syndrome wont rack up $100,000 in student loan debt.

Id even contend your normal liberal young person will naively do more damage to their own lives and stick their parents with the bill, compared to a down syndrome person who lives a simple life.

Its basically like having a child that will remain in a child like state forever (or a child who is basically like a pet..kinda fucked up, but that's how it probably is).

I don't know, if I were to have kids, it would kind of suck when they get older and start becoming angsty teenagers that fuck shit up. They argue with you, become assholes, stay out late, steal your booze and they expect a lot of shit. They wreck something, its your fault. A Down Syndrome kids steals a car and wrecks it, its blamed on Down Syndrome or whatevz.

Skip lines at Disneyland, get a handicapped placard, free social services, etc. Get to go to the Special Olympics, all that stuff.

Man, this just breaks my heart. What a fucking cunt!
My buddy's little brother was born with Down's syndrome, sadly he died due to some other health complications when he was about 8. Always had a soft spot for people with this affliction, despite his handicap he was just a great little kid. I understand if people terminate pregnancy if they find out in time, but to actually abandon the kid when he is born is just something else. Hopefully this woman's life is ruined in terms of social acceptance from here on out.[/align]

Shit like this always warms my cruel heart:

Traditionally, as in the last century in the West and majority of the world currently, handicapped children would get killed at birth via exposure or other methods, get sent to an institution (like one of JFK's sisters), or get locked up/hidden away in the family home. Enlightenment and humanism has endowed rights towards the mentally and physically disabled so that they are able to mostly live a life of dignity in the West.
In high school I knew a girl who had some sort of eye condition that rendered one of her eyes blind, with a milky film. Her family had to immigrate from one of the Gulf states as she was not allowed to go to school there. She wasn't mentally handicapped, she actually was pretty sharp, but due to attitudes towards disability her life was curtailed over there. She ended up running for student council and last I heard is an engineer, married to a white dude, with three children.
The Armenian mother'a attitude is not out of the norm. She lives in a society where the child will be an outcast, with outdated attitudes, and where there is minimal support network from the govt and other institutions.
Westernerners, thanks to the medical, governmental and educational support systems that are tax payer funded, in addition to overall progressive and humanitarian value systems, have shaken off such backwards attitudes towards the disabled and are able to provide dignified life to them.
For all the squawking about the decline of the West that's made over here, one of the most honourable things about living in Western society is the recognition of the dignity of human life no matter the person, and the actions taken in societal and individual levels to ensure that dignity.

There was a PBS movie that spoke about Down's Syndrome in a very dignified way. It was called The Teachings of Jon, and cannot be found on YouTube. (There are some trailers, though.)

I wouldn't wish Down's Syndrome on anyone and I'm sure it's extremely tough to be a parent to a child with it, especially as you get up in years. But there are some benefits to it. My best friend's cousin has it and he's got a pretty good sense of humor. He's like an eternal kid.

Down Syndrome is a tough card dealt - she is Armenian and it's probably a bit different there.

Down Syndrome can be greatly ameliorated, but many people don't know about it:

http://www.warnerhouse.com/facial.htm
http://www.kospublishing.com/html/down.html
http://www.doctoryourself.com/turkel.html
http://www.healthresearch.com/natural-he...tioner.htm
http://www.healthresearch.com/orthods.htm

Therapy is done via extremely high doses of orthomolecular supplements - children have way higher IQ and mental capability, better memory, less allergies and degenerative health programs - some attain IQs of 80 to even 100. The funny thing is that even facial features change significantly if supplementation and diet change is done early enough:

http://www.nutrivene.com/pdf/AM_Article.pdf

The kids shown in those examples are no rarity - I have two acquaintances who have sons with Down Syndrome - one of them looks almost normal and both develop much faster and better than all other kids. But the thing is that they take huge doses of supplements as mammals born with Down Syndrome cannot assimilate nutrients as well as healthy people can - they require massive doses to counter that - otherwise their growth is severely impacted and they get degenerative diseases from an early age.

Despite massive research available the parents are usually left alone to fend for themselves since the medical establishment is neither interested in prevention nor a cure.

But the truth is that 98% of Down Syndrome cases could be prevented if pregnant women adhered to orthomolecular supplementation dosages starting 2 months before inception. Parts of conventional medicine know this, since this is applied in animal feed lots, but contrary to humans when cows are born with Down Syndrome it's a net loss, so we feed cows higher doses of supplements than pregnant women:

Dr. Wallach did a huge study on animals in the 1970s-80s which is still being used in veterinary courses proving that most birth defects can be prevented.

-------------

But alas - parents don't know that.

On the other hand - the government is helpful:

Child Euthanasia

Killing babies no different from abortion, experts say
Parents should be allowed to have their newborn babies killed because they are “morally irrelevant” and ending their lives is no different to abortion, a group of medical ethicists linked to Oxford University has argued.

So I guess we know what the elite is up to. The woman is perfectly in line with top-down views on the subject.

I grew up playing the sport, and still attend a lot of games. The one thing that hockey has always had in abundance is open hearts and arms to those with Down Syndrome.

They will give nearly any fan with the DS a chance to work or be a part of the team in some way. I never fully understood what the reasoning behind this is.

Perhaps it all started with Joey Moss....
