"You Look Familar"

I'm mid approach tonight when I get a "you look familiar" comment from a girl who clearly I couldn't look familiar to (college girl at a college bar when I'm clearly the old guy there). After an attempt or two on her part to figure it out, I went with "Maybe one of your dreams?" Which fell a little flat.

"You look familiar" from somebody who you shouldn't look familiar to must be an IOI. How do you all handle that comment/question.

That sounds like a fine answer. If you're interested in her that's your cue to take over the conversation. The literal first two sentences you trade with a girl aren't something you usually remember even the next hour.

Even something lamer like "Oh, do I?" would have been more than sufficient as long as you take over after that.

"Yeah, you look familiar too"
Her: oh yeah?
Yeah, you were in my dreams too

Same thing you said but more cheeky.

Almost always a sign of interest. Its her way of making an excuse to talk to you without it being "obvious".

Funny enough, thats a line I enjoy using on girls in the bar, in my earlier years I would use it alot in the club.

Catch eyes a couple times and ill open with " you look really familiar, do you go to --- university?"

Of course Iv never seen her in my life, but Iv noticed several things in her response:

- If she says yes and also thinks she recognizes you from somewhere (even though shes also bullshitting) then shes almost always interested. Its an encrypted message of her saying " I know what your doing, and I like it".

- If she says no, then it could mean shes not interested but also just mean she took your comment literally and is answering honestly.
Dont back away, just game as normal and see where it goes. You can even say " ah you look like someone who goes to my work/university/gym" and continue on with the conversation.

-If she answers you with a strong abrupt "No", then she aint buying what your selling, move on.

A girl that is interested wont answer you in a way that will cause you to jump ship.

Even if she doesn't recognize you, she will answer you in a welcoming tone and be open to continuing the conversation.

This line works great as a screening technique as its one of those plausible-deniable questions that exposes interest in an effective way.

There's nothing to "handle" really. she just said something random to chat you up and flirt in the same way that you probably do to chat up a girl

Handle it the same way you handle

"you're cute"
"I know you"
"you look familiar"

It's HER pick up line. (Whether she knows it or not)

Thing is when girls try to open you, they EXPECT you to behave as if you opened them.
They are "controlling the frame".

Game is the reverse. If she comments first, you make HER jump through YOUR hoops.

If you try to play the game of where she knows you from with her, she's controlling the frame.

Don't even acknowledge that bullshit. Do not play her game.

You come at her like she is trying to get into your pants. (which is what she's doing)

- You can call her out, "Is that your pick up line? I'm not that easy"
- Pretend you didn't hear it, "Huh what'd you say" and keep pretending you don't get her.
- Grab her and hug her up like she's a long lost love, "so have you been getting my child support checks"

There's a million things you can say and do.

Stop taking these bitches seriously.

Start running game.

I like calling her out on using a pickup line!

This was actually mid-conversation, though. I opened her.

I'm not seeing any game I like above.

WIA is partially right that this could be her pickup line. But, remember one more thing: Even if that's true, in this dynamic, you're no longer receiving a single sloppy line from a semi-interested girl. This is a more complicated setting.

First of all, there's something none of you are considering. Girl 2 might have straight-up trying to cockblock (subtly), under the guise of "rescuing" Girl 1 (which I'd say is a 50% chance, depending on the setting, which you didn't describe in enough detail). Outgoing girls will try to Tina Fey you with these wannabe clever lines and some delusional belief that they're in on the joke with the other girl and you're just the stupid man from the Super Bowl commercials they just saw.

But, even if this was a weak-handed attempt at landing a line on you, you're no longer responding as if you're talking to one girl--which is all I'm seeing in the responses above. You're now playing to an audience, and you have to respond accordingly. You need to say something that's funny enough that one, or both, chuckle. There's a subtle, but supremely important, difference between the two. You have to open the field to the possibility that another challenger has entered the ring. She might be interested in snatching you from this other girl.

So your line has to do a lot of things at once. It has to be playful, but also ever-so-slightly ridiculing. It has to be self-effacing, but not too much, and definitely not cocky-arrogant (that "in your dreams" noise) as if you were talking to one girl, outside of a nightclub instead of this way-more-complicated situation.

If I'd heard that line--even if I was 10,000% sure I'd never see that bitch in my life--I would have immediately changed gears.

Girl: "You look familiar."

I would have gotten a little theatrical, nodding yes very slowly, while squinting as if I was trying to place her, and maybe putting my hand on my head. I would have then stalled for a few seconds, and delivered my line as if I'd had an epiphany. No corny tone or body language. Sounding as it was 100% real.

Tuthmosis: "That's right. [snapping fingers and pausing for effect] You were in my gamblers anonymous. How's your issue? Are you clean now?"

This will get some kind of laugh and gives her (and them) an opening to play along and be silly. Then you can game as if you're talking to two girls, because you are. See which one wins your attention. If she was trying to cockblock, she's now neutralized because Girl 1 sees you're cool. If Girl 2 wanted the D, she now wants it more.

This is a win-win-win.

I have gotten this one a lot because apparently I look like one of the guys from Gossip Girl.

I usually respond with a skeptical look and then say, "No, I don't think so."

Draw it out. Who do you think I am? Maybe it's a cockblock or she's bored with the attention she's getting from the other simps. I look like a guy from your class? Whatever. Maybe I look like her favorite singer though. Of course I don't, but that's an IOI.

Girl: "You look familiar."
You:
"Wow I'm impressed you must watch a lot of porn then"
Or
"You must have seen my webcam work "

After if your mates are with you shout "Hey boys, a fan she's seen my work"

I got this off a female friend..dirty cow..and just flipped it.

Def a sign of interest.

Or she might think you were some sort of Celebrity or actor. I look like Brad Pitt or Ashton Kutcher type response.

But its a great opening line for both men and women to use.
