Manny Pacquiao agrees to terms for Mayweather fight

Boxing promoter Bob Arum has reportedly said Manny Pacquiao has agreed to terms for a fight with Floyd Mayweather, according to Yahoo Sports. Arum said Mayweather's representatives have agreed to the deal and are only waiting on Mayweather to approve the terms as well.

The bout would take place on May 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and Mayweather would have a 60/40 split of the purse, according to the report.

"I want to get some movement here, with bringing Mayweather to the table so we can go out and get everything signed and get the networks together and get the thing finished," Arum told Yahoo Sports Tuesday.

Arum went on to say he is trying to prevent similar events from preventing the mega fight that have in the past.

"The point is that I don't want what happened the other times to happen again," Arum said. "I want this fight to actually happen. I want everybody to make a lot of money on the fight. I want the public to be satisfied. And I think it will be a terrific event. That's what I want, and I've done everything in my power to make that happen."

Arum also noted the ball is now in Mayweather's court to get this done.

"I think Manny has been very reasonable and demonstrated that he wants the fight to happen. Now, we're waiting on Floyd. That's not to say that Floyd has been obstinate, that Floyd won't do it, but we're waiting on him."

Mayweather will find a way to squirm out of it.

The fight will happen. People were also doubting that Mayweather would fight Alvarez. Also, the Official Boxing Thread is probably a better place to have this discussion.

About 5 years too late. Don't really care that much anymore to be honest. I would have watched it live, now I'll catch it on PPV or on Closed Circuit in Vegas.

This is like the 5th time they've "almost" set up the fight. This isn't newsworthy unless they get it on ink.

Agree with Drazen. I still want to see it, but it's too little too late.

That said, Mayweather via KO.

That's my biggest concern. I'm planning on putting half of my money on Mayweather and half on the over rounds, which will probably be set at 11 1/2. If Mayweather stops him, I will lose some money. I need for Mayweather to win, but to not rough him up too badly.

I think you're safe, it'll be a points win for PBF

I don't know much about boxing (so I'd like to hear from those of you that know your shit), but I'm vaguely aware that this fight has been talked about for a while.
Aren't both fighters in their mid to late 30s and therefore past their primes?
Without knowing the specifics my guess is that the two fighters ducked each other when they were at their primes because a loss would have been a a huge money and reputation loser for either one, and now they are finally going to fight because they are getting old and the money won't be there in a few years and a loss wouldn't matter as much for either one now.

What is the PPV record? I think this could shatter the record. Mayweather won't duck the fight this time. I wonder how they covered the 60/40 split like that. In the past Floyd always wanted more than that.

There are a million ways that the "real" split could be pushed further towards Mayweather.

I don't think Floyd would fight for 60%.

Either way I'm struggling to get excited about this in the way I was a few years back.

@TravelerKai

Floyd is likely getting most of the international/closed circuit TV back end of this one

And as you know his Mayweather Promotions will have a hand in the promotions too

Right.

Ok so what does Manny get? A fixed cash amount plus all the Philippines PPV sales? I cannot see him getting a full 40% of all sales and Floyd letting that slide.

I think it will happen this time, and I agree that it's a shame it didn't happen earlier. Both men have lost a bit, pacquiao more so. Prime Pacquiao would have pushed Mayweather harder than any other fighter, but at this stage I'm not so sure.

That said, styles make fights, and this is still a match up I really want to see. I'm also actually having a really hard-time picking for this fight. On the one hand, Floyd's recent opponents have been 15 - 20 pounds bigger than him, and the last time he fought a much smaller man (Marquez), he really dominated him, but then on the other hand Floyd hasn't fought a southpaw with Pacquiao's kind of speed and power since Judah, who gave him real problems for the first four rounds (like the four round fighter he is), and he doesn't have anything like Pacquiao's work rate. A Mayweather decision is probably the most likely outcome (then again we've seen some awful decisions in the past, with judges favouring the agressor), but I can't rule out Pacquiao winning by knockout either.

Manny had a crazy amount of trouble with JMM in every single fight. You can easily make a very strong case that Many lost most of those fights, if not all of them.

JMM is a slick counter puncher that Manny had all sorts of trouble with, but Floyd is an even better counter puncher, and probably the best defensive fighter in the world right now. Floyd also has a five inch reach advantage and Manny hasn't knocked anyone out since 2009. Floyds never been KOd, and I don't think has ever even been knocked down? Where as Manny has been KOd three times.

Manny is awesome, but I think Floyd wins in a fairly dominant fashion.

I think so, too. I've never lost, but there is a first time for everything. If Mayweather does what he did in the Robert Guerrero fight, it should be an easy points victory. I'm well aware that Pacquiao is better than Guerrero, but if you watch the Guerrero fight, which wasn't too long ago, you can see how Mayweather handles a skilled southpaw. If Mayweather uses his right hand enough, it will be a pretty easy night for him. If he barely throws the right, it could be pretty close on the scorecards or he could even lose. The LVH has put Mayweather at a -275 favorite. I think it will be closer to -250 come fight night. There are tons of Pacquiao fans in Las Vegas, both who live there and who will be coming in for fight weekend.

I watched the Mayweather Hatton fight, and to me it looked like Hatton really shook him up in the first round but the referee got too involved which allowed Mayweather to recover then knock out Hatton.

I haven't watched any boxing in ages. Calzaghe was the last fighter I actually followed, but I will definitely be watching this fight. If it happens.

Modern boxing just doesn't interest me too much. There's a lack of charismatic personalities, fierce rivalries, and to an extent talent that existed at one time. For one thing it seems to me that a lot of modern boxers just don't want to mix it up and brawl like they used to. Look at "Boom Boom" Mancini vs Duk Koo Kim in 82, or against Frias in 81, then look at some of the modern fights. There's just something that seems to be missing to me.

Back then, boxers were compensated less (for the great majority) for their talents, but they fought for pride was linear championships

less belts, less ambiguity. There was one undisputed champion not the alphabet soup you see today

Fighters fought more frequently, and the most popular fighter during that time was Ray Leonard and he never backed down from a good scrap.

Exactly, yet people keep saying that Mayweather won't fight Pacquiao or is scared to fight him. The fight will happen. There is no way in hell that Mayweather will pass up boxing's biggest payday ever. We should have an official announcement within a week.
