Russell Crowe gets hamsters spinning on age-appropriate roles for actresses

Rusty is getting flamed by Slate and (who else?) Jezebel because he had the audacity to call out some of the bullshit that female actresses engage in when they complain "there's no roles for older women."

http://www.news.com.au/entertainment/boo...7175929155

Quote:Quote:

“The best thing about the industry I’m in — movies — is that there are roles for people in all different stages of life. To be honest, I think you’ll find that the woman who is saying that [the roles have dried up] is the woman who at 40, 45, 48, still wants to play the ingenue, and can’t understand why she’s not being cast as the 21-year-old.

“Meryl Streep will give you 10,000 examples and arguments as to why that’s bullsh*t, so will Helen Mirren, or whoever it happens to be. If you are willing to live in your own skin, you can work as an actor. If you are trying to pretend that you’re still the young buck when you’re my age, it just doesn’t work.

“I have heard of an actress, part of her fee negotiation was getting the number of children she was supposed to have lessened. Can you believe this? This [character] was a woman with four children, and there were reasons why she had to have four children — mainly, she lived in a cold climate and there was nothing to do but fornicate all day — so quit arguing, just play the role!

“The point is, you do have to be prepared to accept that there are stages in life. So I can’t be the Gladiator forever.”

While Crowe's got the benefit of not hitting the Wall as hard or fast as women his age, this was pretty no-nonsense stuff.

Good for him on calling it out for them. His line like the OP put in bold, "If you are willing to live in your own skin, you can work as an actor. If you are trying to pretend that you’re still the young buck when you’re my age, it just doesn’t work." is gold.

I wonder if he and other celebs have been lurking!

You can bring broads to logic but you can't force them to think.

Crowe's shitty lifestyle caught up with him - he is barely 50:

Keanu Reeves around the same age: - he recently played an Alpha living with two young girls in their prime. But yeah - Crowe is right of course, but women will be fighting against truth tooth and nail.

Keanu Reeves is mixed blood East Asian. That's not so uncommon for older Asian guys to still have the looks of someone " late 30's". Also, shit, I hope I look like Russell Crowe when I'm 50.

OP: The "good roles" for women are the young, hot roles. Women are mad they are not young and hot forever. There are few women who want to do mature work for a woman, they want the young, hot girl roles til the wheels fall off. Whatever plastic surgery mishaps come.

Yes. Genetics. If you're of north European extraction and spend a lot of time in the sun, you're probably going to look craggy at 50.

And you're probably going to look craggy even if you don't see much sun. Crowe's a middle aged man and looks fine for his age. No homo.

This. They don't want to play someone's mother. They want to be desired.

The way women - nearly all women, not just celebrities - desperately try to cling on to their rapidly drying-up sex appeal is tragic.

It's easy to sneer at the fortysomething woman who spends a fortune on creams and lotions and puffs up her face with Botox till she has the lips of a chimpanzee making a kissy-face. But I just feel sorry for them. Nature has dealt women a cruel hand, they never really grow out of the childish need for attention and approval.

Russell Crowe can still smash hot 20-year-old poosy at 50, if he wants to.

Tom Cruise is 52 and a midget and is still in demand as a leading man.

Mickey Rourke is in his 60's, looks like his face is made of play-doh, and is currently banging this chick:

Women have far fewer options outside that brief window of being young, skinny and hot - if they're ever hot in the first place

Crowe looks fine of course for his age and he can out-game us all, but he let himself go.

Here Keanu Reeves just 2 years ago as he put on 40+ pounds for a while:

If he didn't dye his hair it would look even worse. A man's gotta stay in shape - you may be ugly, but being fat and bloated just makes it much more difficult.

On the topic of guys ageing good/bad, I think this dude, Dylan McDermott (53) has got to be in the top 1% in terms of getting it right (no homo). He has the advantage in the looks department to start with, but so does Keanu.

You really can't tell much from those pictures. RC is making a frowning gesture, and KR has a relaxed face.
I think RC is in pretty damn good shape and someone I consider a true alpha.

I've always been impressed by how well McDermott's aged.

Are we really talking about another man's looks?

Crowe is an awesome actor and saying red pill shit. I'm happy.

Crowe hits on everything that moves in real life or did for a while - probably never stopped. Sometimes female reporters proudly proclaim that they refused him.

Though - how much Red Pill he really is - ahem - he certainly bends to the feminine imperative:

All he said in the comment is that he thinks it's normal that 45yo actresses should not be upset that they don't get roles as romantic targets. Russell Crowe deserves scorn for that mindless feminism support, that he is under no obligation to promote. Leo DiCaprio certainly does not.

I'd say at least 80% of looks decline in 40s and 50s for me ( and for most middle aged men) has been from weight gain. I've been wearing sunscreen and hats since I was 20 knowing what would happen with that.

It fucks up everything else-- you start to get stooped over, you can 'tdo as much exercise until you lose the weight, so you look less vital than you could. I'm not a heavy drinker, but watch out, drinking at all really tends to accelerate it.

Samseau and IKE are on the money. People talk about smoking but for men I'd say:

1) sun damage
2) lack of good sleep
3) overweight
4) alcohol
5) no cardio

All make you look worse.

What he said wasn't controversial.

Common sense really...however, leave it to the female hamster to spin what he said the wrong way.

Another reason to stay fit as you get older is due to the effect of clothing style.

As you age you can compensate for some of your aging looks with nice clothes ( which you're probably able to afford easier) - but only if you are fit.

If you're fit yet older, nice clothes will look good on you and many bitches will take notice.

If you're fat, nice clothes is merely putting lipstick on a pig.

Take care of those titties for me.

It's only controversial because he's a man who said the truth about women. Had it been a woman no one would have cared.
