Does anyone else here watch TED talks?

Here are some below. Some are in animation form because they're more interesting to watch.

Sir Ken Robinson - Do schools kill creativity?

Sir Ken Robinson: Bring on the learning revolution

Drive - the truth about what motivates us (vaginas)

The Empathic Civilization

Seth Godin on the Tribes We Lead

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQGYr9bnktw

Malcolm Gladwell - What we can learn from Spaghetti Sauce

If I had to choose between only watching TED talks or reading books, I'd probably choose just TED talks.

Am a big fan of Felix Dennis, self made publishing tycoon. In this talk he recites some poetry. Not normally a fan of poetry readings, but this is good stuff. Check out his piece on women at 10.12

His book How to get Rich is great.

Yes, TED have some great talks. How do you get invited to attend them live? I guess you have to make a major donation.

I like looking for videos of talks given by authors I enjoy reading and comparing their personalities to the mental image of them I've already formed in my mind. I'm usually pretty accurate, but one TED talk given by Susan Blackmore (The Meme Machine) showed she is the exact OPPOSITE of what I had in mind. She was trying to get acceptance for her concept of "Temes" - Technological memes - though it hasn't taken off, like the word meme itself.

I've heard tickets are $6,000 - and that's if you can get them in the first place.

I know guys who are involved in their local TEDx groups, which are usually completely open. That might be a cool way to get involved and meet like minded people.

Well, $6,000 is less than I thought. I don't live in America now. I don't know too much about the organisation itself. Do they have international chapters?

Another good online resource for somewhat simillar talks is the youtube channel "authors@google". Has the videos of all the authors who have accepted invitations to give talks on their ideas to Google staffers in their NY and California offices/campuses.

Y'all gonna laugh. This is for real though. Been following for awhile.

I think we as humanity should work towards the 2 evils that plague almost every human experience in the modern world which is work that is done primarily for financial gain and aging. Post-Work and Post-Aging world should be humanity's primary concerns.

The world would focus on creativity, experiences, and invention.

I don't like a lot of the ways people idolize TED talks, in fact, I would generally side with Nassim Taleb on his criticism.

That said, there's obviously some good presentations.

For those outside of finance who have been hearing more about "high speed trading" or the rise of computer algorithms for managing many aspects of our lives, this will be interesting:

Agreed, hence the Sam Hyde video above.

Like that Kunstler guy. Had first read his book "Geography of Nowhere", about suburban design run amok. I remember the text being mostly serious in tone, but the margins were filled with photo illustrations and dry-wit comments. Was glad to see that his talk took a similar approach - enthusiastic, urgent, wry.
