Xmas - So what is everyone getting?

Just wondering how the fellow "players" feel about Christmas?

Do you guys treat yourself or treat others?

I guess I have seen more than enough of them, so I just enjoy the time off.

I think that I'd be happy if someone got me good free weights (I don't have any), or something that makes me look better that I wouldn't have thought of otherwise - a fashionable necklace or bracelet, etc.

I bought myself new soft leather gloves. Got candle from my sister, homemade wine from grandfather and girl is coming to my house in 30 minutes and said I can do whatever I want to her as my present. Pretty good christmas.

My brother always gets me the family pack of condoms, and tells me he expects they'll be gone by Feb 1st. As my mom just shakes her head.

I actually don't like receiving gifts. Is anyone else like that? I'd rather give a gift.

I don't like the pressure! I'll probably get some gift cards. Maybe I should buy a bed for Christmas.

100% the same way. I don't like receiving gifts at all but I love giving gifts.

If they insist I just request an Amazon gift card.

I hate both giving gifts and receiving them. So much expectations and little appreciation. The kids need to be told to say thanks.

I got a juicer, some V-neck t-shirts and some guitar stuff from my brothers. They know me.

My mother barely cracked a smile when I gave something for 200$ she actually wished for. My brothers even told me: "What was that?"

I bought myself a ribeye steak and spending time with my family. The best gifts I can have. No need to buy overpriced crap made in a Chinese sweatshop.

Xmas - So what is everyone getting?

In a sense every day is Xmas for me, since I buy shit when I want it most of the time.

Nonetheless I take advantage of low prices. I got a:
Kindle Paperwhite,
8GB ram,
memory foam pillow,
another 24" monitor,
books at Barnes and Noble

It would be nice to buy gasoline contracts at gas stations, would be nice to shell out a grand or two with these low prices.

Same here, I buy what I need. It's the little extras that would be cool. Didn't ask for it cause you can't buy them yet, but a yearly pass to the state parks would be badass for me and the RV.

I also asked for a few Shure M267 mixers, they're an old model not produced anymore but they were awesome, test tones built in and runs off battery. Even has a limiter to keep you from overdriving the telephone line/computer soundcard.

CR this confused me

I don't like giving or receiving. In fact, I was just telling someone how the more "manly" I get (ie more DGAF attitude), the less I care about giving someone something. Or at least the less I care about giving gifts that are expected.

I'd rather have a great time with friends / family than give/get anything.

I feel ya too. I hate Christmas gift giving and frankly think it should be done away with. Maybe 1 gift and a stocking for the kids. Only 1 gift though nothing more.

The disgusting consumption that goes on kills me. Personally i'd appreciate a more Krampusified Christmas.

I got 800 dollars in total from grandparents on both sides. My parents got me a kindle and a pair of timbaland boots, and my Uncle and Aunt got me a jacket plus some chocolate bars.

Xmas - So what is everyone getting?

I usually don't enjoy Christmas much, but this was the first year in a while where I had fun.

The main changes for me were having a lot of money saved up to actually buy gifts and my beginning to come out of my shell socially this year. I normally keep to myself and still do, but I'm changing a bit in that regard.

I bought a few gifts for people at work: mainly books or gift cards.
Got my sister a deep fryer as well as a thermos mug.
Got my dad a pair of gloves.
Got my sister's husband a beard trimmer.

I got a Mexx winter jacket that I really wanted, and lots of chocolate and candy-- which I didn't want, but am enjoying shamelessly, ha.

I think I may have gotten less than I gave out, but as another poster said I prefer to give more than I receive and this year was the first year where I was actually in a position to do this.

All in all great Christmas, and a big motivator for me to make sure I'm in an even better position financially and socially to give a lot on Christmas.

I ended up getting a microwave. Not sure how I feel about that, being that I haven't had access to one in over 6 months and have been cooking my meals from scratch and eating everything fresh.

The main reason why I don't like getting gifts is because most likely it's not going to be something you want or need and you can't really say anything because then they might get upset and all that nonsense. Just the type of situations I like to avoid.

I love Christmas. This is likely due to having a large and tight family.

As a player, I bought two spa packages at a 5 star for my two closest girls. I brought a bottle of Moet to a girls place that I have seen a few times in the last couple months.

One girl gave me a really nice Citizen watch. I am of the attitude that its the thought that counts, and its a watch that I would have never bought for myself, and now that I have it I love it.

One girl took me to my favorite strip club and bought me drinks all night.

As a regular family man, my sister knitted me an amazing merino scarf. My brother got me a Fisher pelt. But mostly its about drinking coffee after breakfast until lunch, visiting with people I rarely see, eating home cooked food, and having a drink whenever I damn well feel like it.

Nothing, didn't buy anything for anyone else, and demanded they buy nothing for me.
Why would I want bits of crap that I don't need or won't use, and have to spend money returning the favour. It's a stupid tradition that benefits retailers.
I'll buy Christmas gifts for my children when I have them, because they actually appreciate them and are more likely to benefit from them.

Got my girl a 20 gauge shotgun. She said it's the best Christmas present she's got in her life, and is bragging to everyone she can find to listen to her. Of course, I'm looking forward to shooting it too, so it's one of those cases of buying something I want as a gift.

Five years ago I stopped giving or recieving gifts. I dont want them. I hate buying them. At this point, after 30 some years, all the stuff I want I already went out and bought. If I need a sweater or some new underwear Im not waiting until Christmas. Buying stuff from programming doesnt make any sense to me.

Xmas - So what is everyone getting?

I sense a trend here that we all tend to go out and take what we want as soon as we realize that it could benefit our lives. As such, getting a gift over the holidays loses much significance, for if there is something that would benefit our lives, if we are doing it right we'll have gotten it already.

I still think that gift giving over the holidays has its place. Mostly in gifts that you'd never have thought of on your own. Not all of us have thought of everything.

I regularly get gifts, at random when I feel like it, for people in my quotidian dealings if I think that it would improve their lives, and if I think that they've not thought of it yet. For example, healthy, organic, powder green tea for people who could do with better skin, or who could stand to lose a few pounds (or 70). It doesn't matter the time of year - it could be on a Tuesday in August, a rather nondescript day.

For Xmas I would be really happy if someone gave me something that genuinely improved my life, even if only marginally, that I would never have thought of otherwise. Those are the really special gifts, and they still have a place in our lives, even if we think that we have everything that we need. There's always something out there that we could use.

What in your life have you not thought of that would improve it? It could even be something that we might resist at first. I used to resist the idea of meditation. If someone had offered five years ago to take me on a meditation retreat, I may have balked a bit, but now it would be the bee's knees - something that would really improve my mental health.

The challenge is knowing the person well enough to know what is missing, even when he does not. That is the advantage of periodic gift giving - you see the situation of a person from the outside, which he cannot.
