I don't indulge in the "hood" in America, so I definitely don't in Latin America. Especially as a gringo.
Everything is hunky dory right up until it isn't and then you find out real quick how much fun you can have slumming it. The bull's eye is always on you ...whether you recognize it or not.
Don't think the guys are happy that you are there taking advantage of wealth and status disparities to bone their chicks. They may smile in your face while quietly setting up your demise - on a short term or long term basis.
Dogs?
Just because these people dont have alot of money certainly doesnt make them dogs or any lesser of a human being.

I know he didnt mean it literally but I still think he views them differently in a negative way.
Not everyone in the barrio is "out to get the gringo". There is bad ppl every where and shit can happen anywhere. Plenty of nice ppl, hot girls, and awesome parties! Missing out is all i gotta say.

I wouldn't go to a favela or a hood unless I had a legit friend who lived there. I could never imagine going to a house party in blood/crip infested neighborhood or a block party in the Nickerson Garden projcects. You can probably go to favelas and nothing would happen to you but I wouldn't recommend going especially if you don't speak the lingo.
When I was in South America I prefer to go after middle class girls and up. In brasil I hear they don't fuck with gringos in the favelas because they want them to come in and buy drugs. Plus those dudes aren't down with you coming and spitting game at their girls, if anything they just wanna get some money from you to feed their kids. Treach from Naughty by Nature once said if you ain't from the ghetto don't come to the fucken ghetto.

I do not think of them in a negative way. There are plenty of decent people and nice pussy in "hoods" all over the world.
But reality is reality. Most of the violent crime happen in the hood and people who are in the hood are the most likely victims. (i.e. run with dogs catch fleas). At any time and in a moments notice frustrations/envy/jealousy can flare up. And don't think the police will be there to help you.
They always side with locals and look to exploit.
You will be "the gringo". Ready to be exploited by either the female you are boning - once she figures she can't control you or a local guy who is a hater -you are a steak on a table.
Not worth the thrill - neither in the US or abroad, but to each his own I guess.

Obviously I dont endorse going in solo. Go with locals that live there that you are friends with. Ur right something can jump off, sure. But like Bonecrusher said "I aint never scared"
And let me clarify I dont specifically mean the hood, im simply talking about various neighborhoods in South American countries that are not the "main drag" Pretty much only locals that live in that neighborhood go out and party there for the most part. More working class than straight ghetto.

@Gringo I think the thugs in brasil could be chiller. That shit would never fly in the U.S. They were chill with you because they don't view you as a threat. They're chill because you were probably a customer.

Pretty much true in any country in South America or Asia where we travel to hit on the women. That's why it's always best to keep a low profile.

@ISW I completely agree with what you say about pretty much all the citizens who live in the favelas are hard working and law abiding citizens. With more poverty there is just more of a need for crime to survive. I have friends who live in South Los Angeles and I would go hang out with them in their neighborhood but the reason I would go to those certain areas was because I have friends who live there.
In brasil most people who work in the service industry would live in the favelas especially in Rio or SP. Living in Rio and only making about R$700 or the minimum wage you simply can't afford to live outside of a favela in the Zona Sul region. You have a friend that lives in Rocinha so that makes a huge difference since you know a local that lives there. That place would be sick to visit since it is the biggest and most established favela in South America. Anywhere you go that could be dangerous and unfamiliar you always have to be on your ps and qs. I was commenting on the fact that it can be shady to go to the favelas to buy drugs being a gringo too.
I met a British dude in SP that told me he went to a few of the baile funk parties and he said they were cool but at one of them all the girls ignored them because the dudes their must of told them not to talk with foreigners. At least for me I would only go to places like that with a local that I could trust or if it in the U.S. with a legit friend. But I'm sure the favela funk party was sick. A lot of brazilian people I met wouldn't advise for me to go to a favela by myself. Maybe since I factored that in it has given me a different view of going to the favelas solo. I went to a funk show near the centro area in Rio and it was sick. I'm not sure what the name of the venue was but it's near the Marina da Gloria.

If you went to a Baile Funk party in Rochina you probably went on a sunday night, right? Sunday nights are known as 'favela funk parties' aka tourist nights. It's where all the tourist companies take gringos. Nothing wrong with it, they can be fun but they aren't a true favela nightlife experience. Try going to one of the parties that the gringos don't go to (maybe you did) and you'll se a remarkable difference. The parties I went to had no gringos bar me, I felt uneasy at first but soon realisd no one gave a fuck about me and why should they. The drug gangs ran this party but they were not out to cause trouble or give anyone grief, they were all fairly decent guys and I eased into it and really enjoyed it despite the fact they had guns slung over their shoulder.
People are saying it's shady to go to the favelas alone or to buy drugs. It's really not. Quite the opposite. A gringo gets harmed, the police (or even the army) are in like a shot and causing trouble, this is bad for business and no one wants that. The drug gangs don't harm gringos and the residents know better than to fuck with them for fear or the wrath of the dealers. You'll have a significant number of gringos per day going into the favelas to buy drugs, I have not heard of any of them being hurt or even feeling threatned.

The night when I went most recently was a Sunday Night but I've been other times (Carnival 2010) to parties deep in Rochinha way up in the Hills where the gang members had their guns in the air and on their shoulders reppin hard.
I number and kissed closed a few but wasn't able to pipe them on this particular trip...I have before at the more authentic parties. My portuguese sucks big time so that is a hinderance for me as well.

@Gringo you made some valid points and I agree with you on some of your points, I've also heard that the dealers don't mess with gringos. Be careful when leaving a favela that the cops don't see you because you will have to pay a hefty fine if they catch you with the bag of blow or weed you just copped.

Seems like this thread got a bit off track. What place has more attractive women DR or Colombia? I'll say Santo Domingo/Santiago vs Medellin/Cali. I like them a little curvier but not fat.

General rule of thumb.
DR for black chicks
Colombia for white - brown skinned chicks.
Not that you cant find fair skinned girls in DR or black girls in Colombia...
Plenty of Curvy girls in Colombia, so I wouldnt even factor that into the equation

Plenty of black chicks in Colombia too but in certain regions. The Chocó region of colombia is ethnically very black but I would hestiate to go there for safety reasons personally (FARC etc)

I wonder if he's here trolling us slowly.
I saw a bunch of Scotians pictures from Colombia(Bogota) The place is a million times cleaner than Santo Domingo.
I made jokes about sending garbage trucks down and selling them to the government.

I think Colombian women are the most attractive in Latin America.
However, I wouldn't say they are as easy as DR chicks.
I think for an American, DR would be easier.
I'm not one of those guys infatuated with just ass. Most guys that swear by DR chicks seem to be. I take into account the whole body. Colombians have prettier faces and better tits and nice buns too. Just better all around. They are better women as well. Renowned for their loyalty.
Just ask Mixx
