Thanks for the answers guys, what about czech republic or hungary?? Do you recommend Poland/Lithuania/Estonia over them??

And the winner is...? Hungary/Czech Republic???
What say you, kr4t0s?

I'm leaning a bit towards Poland. The economy is booming, its cheap, women are beautiful and most of people below 35 speak english. Hungary is good choice but the current goverment bugs me a bit....

BTW i found this study of english proficiency outside the anglosphere:

http://www.ef.co.uk/epi/

Poland is very high as also estonia....

I've been to Poland and Estonia both, English proficiency is higher among the under 30 crowd in Estonia. As for the over 40 crowd both places are mediocre, I remember running into some soccer fans in their 40s downtown Warsaw a few years back during the Euros and had to revert to sign language and some Russian phrases as their English knowledge was near zero (then again they might have been drunk).

This epi chart you quoted is a joke. They are putting English proficiency in Poland ahead of Germany, Austria, Estonia, and Switzerland? What a f&*k!#g joke. If you trust charts like that you are better off not traveling at all there and just sticking to England and Ireland.

For young people (under 30), the English level in Poland is definitely higher than Germany. It would make sense for Estonia too. These are places where young folks need to know a foreign language to get ahead and do business internationally. Germans have a good economy, so knowing English is not critical.

Jasondd: Are you speaking from personal experience ? Germans are not as fluent in English as the Scandinavians or Dutch, but I wouldn't have guessed that Poles speak better English than Germans

P.S.: thinking about about it, there could actually be some truth to it. Germans with low qualifications can still find simple jobs in Germany while many of their Polish counterparts need to leave the country to find work.

There are huge regional differences in Germany. English proficiency is generally much better in the old West Germany compared to the old East Germany.

I'm comparing Berlin versus Wroclaw. Spent about 2 months in Berlin, 7 months in Wroclaw, over the past 2 years.

Hey guys

Which EE country do you recommend as the one that has the biggest % of people speaking english as a second language and has first class health care with english speaking staff?
I'm planning to live some months in europe and EE seems like a good choice because
women are feminine and the countries are cheaper than western or scandinavian ones, but
as i only speak spanish or english i want to be in a place where any language barriers would be minimized...

I have heard that Poland is pretty good in these aspects , but i would like to hear your opinions as well.

thanks!

I've been getting medical services here in Romania. Way better English than Poland.

Murph_Sauce, just for clarification please. Romanians in general speaks better English than Polish people? Or just the medical field. I imagine you mean Romania in general. Thanks.

Romania is a latin country. I highly doubt that the general population speaks better english than in Poland...

I have heard interesting things about estonia, the only downside i see for that country is that its too close to big bear putin. Still i would consider at least a visit. Question, in terms of expensiveness, which is more expensive, poland or estonia??

Don't go there because Putin will kill you and then eat you.

Its mainly sabre rattling currently and as crazy as Putin is I don't think an invasion one of the former USSR satellites such as Estonia/Latvia/Lithuania is on the cards.

Regarding your question yes Poland and either Szczecin/Poznan or Wroclaw. I would actually choose Poznan as the connections to Warsaw/Gdansk/Berlin are better for trips etc.

Germans are still top 8 in europe when it comes to talking English proficency.. They are only worse in Average than the 5 Nordic nations(although finland is the weakest one of the bunch), Netherlands and It's comparable to belgium... so germany is either 7 or 8 in terms of english proficency. Germans comfortably beat all the other countries.

Berlin despite being capital city is located in eastern germany... the best germany is in west, particularly northwest... english level is also easily better than in berlin.. Im talking about hamburg, hannover, dusseldorf and their surrounding areas..

The general population and in the hospitals/clinics. I've spent months in both countries and received medical treatment in both. I can say this with absolute certainty.

I just want to re-iterate that it's Estonia. Especially due to the nordic influence from Sweden and Finland, they've become easily the most westernized country in EE, besides Poland maybe. I don't think this is a good thing however.

A lot of girls there nowadays are fatter than their older cousins from 10yrs ago. I don't even ask an Estonian girl anymore if her parents are married, because in 90% of the cases, they come from a divorced family, or she has a stepfather. You don't get that as much in Poland since it's a catholic country where people tend to sick more together. The amount of atheists in Estonia is around 90%+ so there's no social stigma about divorce.

Exceptions however with the russian-parented girls. They are however a group that is extremely hard to get into.

Lithuania has the best middle-ground I think. English is not as good but in any part of life where you might need English, they will speak English. Everyone under 35 speaks it fluently. Corruption on smaller scale is still existent (I've paid off traffic cops and parking attendants there before). However, girls are also more religiously grown and since their income levels are lower, need a man. Provider game works better there, due to the Russian influence and in general these girls are usually more pleasant to be around with. I've had Lithuanian girls pick me up at midnight at the airport in Vilnius, with a homemade cake on their hands, because I jokingly said before the price for me is her delicious cake, which I had eaten before.

To be honest provider game stopped working 10 years ago in the Baltics. I was in Vilnius in May and August of this year and the city is flush with cash; every friday/saturday night the money being spent in night-clubs there is ridiculous, prices at Maxima (largerst supermarket chain in the Baltics) is almost comparable to western europe, and although salaries are easily 35% less there, the high amount of expensive German cars you on the streets and all the expensive real-estate construction makes one think that everything is normal.
Even for an American making 6 figures some stuff seemed expensive (for example paying $90/night for a barely 3 star hotel in Palanga). Almost every girl with a college degree and a good head on her shoulders in LT has been abroad to some extent to work or study. The country has a major shortage of skilled white collar labor due to emigration to the west and the young people who stay have no problems finding work at decent salary if they have the right skill-set. Also, you mentioned Russian influence, BUT it is barely felt. Less than 6% of Lithuanian's are ethnic Russian's now and even my cousins who are both in their late 20's no longer speak Russian.

Just to clear it up, when I say russian influence I don't mean the % of russian speakers in the population. Because weirdly enough, Estonia is the least "russian mentality-ed" (corruption, reckless driving, aggressive guys) country of the baltics, despite having the highest % of russian speakers. It definitely feels like a mini-Sweden or Finland, while in Lithuania if you get to Kaunas especially, you feel like they are still quite behind. And it shows in the health of their economy too.
