I didn't get any attention from Italian women. The only attention I got was from fellow hostelers.

When I lived in London I dated (and slept with) more Italian chicks than any other nationality. I found them pretty easy but I am British. Never had any problems in Italy either but fellow Europeans behave in more European ways. It's not such a culture shock.

Only one my girlfriends vocally expressed very negative comments about Americans but, if you saw the boorish behaviour of American tourists in Italy then you would understand why people are indifferent and not impressed.

Going from such a young culture to such and rich and historic old culture and then acting like you are the best because you are American is not going to make you any friends.

Even for those living there. American students typically go to live in places like Florence, get culture shock and band together to deal with it.

There are also cases every year where american tourist experience such intense culture shock that they actually forget where they are and even their names. Police and hostpitals in Florence deal with this all the time.

The UK. I live in London and feel like doing anything social is made a little more difficult because I'm foreign -- not because I'm specifically American, but because I'm foreign.

Italian people were unfriendly and racist when I went there. I'm South Asian-American. I found the most receptive were British girls. The Germans were pretty friendly too.
