Manospeak - an upcoming male only social website [WIP]

Seeing the blatant censorship and overall craziness to put down free speech (especially free male speech) the idea of creating a male only social website as a good old "gentleman only" club have sprouted in my mind recently.

I am not an expert on php and web-coding at the moment, but I manage. Thankfully there are surprisingly good and relatively cheap social website frameworks so I do not have to do it from the basics, just program in add-ons.

It will be basic in the beginning, but I think that is not a problem. I am still thinking how to make it work so we make sure it remains women and white knight free. My ideas so far:

-You can only join if one of the member recommended you, if you turn out to be a women you and the one who recommended you will be banned (or suspended for a time...)
-If we use donation system or subscription (like, 2$ a month per member ) we can remain ad free, and no one can shut us down because they can not go after our ad sponsors.
-RVF members above a certain post count can join without invite of course. [Image: biggrin.gif]
-I want to create a VIP members section and invite the icons of the manosphere (Roosh, Rationalmale, Heartiste and so on...) So if you click in the VIP members button you only see the posts of them, like a built in favorite list. Good start for beginners I suppose.
-I am not going to launch until I figure out how to put a dislike button that is for sure.

I have no idea on the launch date at the moment. Please chip in with ideas, and would you be interested to join to a site like this?

This is how it looks like at the moment: (teaser)

I really like the idea. There are just a few things I'd wanna question.

1. Privacy. Would people be able to see/browse across profiles when not a member?
2. How would you keep out white knights? Hypothetical: I could invite one of my friends, so he could get ideas, network, learn game, etc. What if he says to hell with it and goes full level 80 white knight mode. Would I still be banned?
3. What would be the terms and conditions?

I see what you're getting at, but we already have the forum.

I'm sure you mean well, but it sounds like a site for gay men.

I can't comment on the target audience, but $2 a month is way too much. You're not New York Times. Heck, even Whatsapp charges only 1$ a year. Don't overreach and scare the cat.

Manosphere already sounds like a gay nightclub.

This is what Manospeak sounds like.

If you manage to get this off the ground it will probably have a pretty strong gay undercurrent. It's like that local bar where everybody knows flamers go to except the guy who owns the place.

If you can make it about a topic like physics or video games or something then you can avoid this but men already barely use facebook as it is.

Supposing this is a space where you are free to post all the non politically correct shit you want then it would be a pretty huge target for SJWs to infiltrate it and destroy a lot of careers. I save those kind of horrible conversations for hanging out with the dudes.

Definitely change the name. I'd either aim this as a business networking site for men, or a politically-incorrect shoot-the-shit site for the frat crowd: "Like Facebook, without your Mom and Fat Chicks."

I have had similar ideas in the past and haven't done anything with it for lack of time and resources along with the other opinions posted up stream.

I am curious about what platform you are using? Mind sharing some links? If not I will be doing my own research.

Also, I agree about name. And the fact that it needs some sort of focus. Even facebook, at it's beginnings, was only for colleges and basically a forum for people to connect at their college. Then it spread to other colleges so people could stay in touch with friends from high school or out of state. Then it went general and my parents and the local jail bait joined up and I haven't used it since really. I log on maybe twice a year when I am drunk around the holidays or something and want to know what people I haven't spoken to in years are doing with their lives.

So, if you go forwards with this make sure you can actually attract and keep men interested. I sincerely doubt, between men like me and all the spammers and duplicate accounts and what not, that facebook has anywhere near the consumer base that they claim.

So my suggestion is to just pick one topic, even if it is something manosphere related like divorce as an example, and get it going and then think about expanding to similar and parallel topics.

Women these days think they can shop for a man like they shop for a purse or a pair of shoes. Sorry ladies. It doesn't work that way.

Women are like sandwiches. All men love sandwiches. That's a given. But sandwiches are only good when they're fresh. Nobody wants a day old sandwich. The bread is all soggy and the meat is spoiled.

Soggybagel.com looks available.

Edit: I kid, but Hannibal has a good point: RVF is already here.

It's a good idea. But I agree it needs to start with a focus, then expand a la Facebook.

Two things matter most: sex and money. Since we've got the sex pretty well covered here, why not start it as a networking place*?

I recently read on ZeroHedge that in the most recent jobs report, only ten percent of the 416 thousand jobs added in the recent "age 20 and over" category went to men. 90 percent went to women.

How can this be and what can be happening in our society to cause this? Wasn't there supposed to be an Old Boy Network where men helped each other? Maybe we need a New Boy Network.

* There are hundreds, if not thousands, of women's networking groups. If someone started a "guy's only" one, two positive things might happen (besides men getting jobs). First, the novelty of it would guarantee publicity; and second, the inevitable women and reporters calling it "discriminatory" would expose their hypocrisy, since no one has a problem with women's networks.

Yeah, you guys reinforced the cons I myself thought about this idea.

I always used and enjoyed forums better than facebook. Facebook style communication is just alien to me. I thought it is just me, but you guys said it is the same for you. I only use facebook as an rss feed for the websites I visit, I unfollowed 95% of my "friends" due to idiotic posts a long time ago...

I will sleep over this if I can make something that is needed but do not exists already, we will see.

First. Thanks for replying with the info, man. On a lot of forums people tend not to answer questions. Hell, I know I am plenty guilty of being a fly-by poster and not returning to threads. So, much thanks and I appreciate it. I will check it out.

Second. Don't let any naysayers, me included, throw you off track. Think about it like this. There are only two bad outcomes for following through with this. Outcome A: You get discouraged and focus on the cons and never complete or go through with the project which means it is a failure. Outcome B: You go through with it and see it to it's end and it fails. In which case, even though you may have failed on paper, you still will have learned something and proven something to yourself.

Also, the best case, for most start ups in the tech scene, is not to become the next Microsoft or Apple or Facebook or Google. It is instead to become the next company that get's bought by them. The guys who built youtube, if I remember correctly, which I might not be doing considering I haven't slept, built it in their garage and there were only a few of them, I believe two, and they sold it to google for over a billion dollars. Now, I think one was a member of the paypal mafia and had some experience but still. There are many small companies that get bought up by these big players and if you put in the effort and do create something of value you could be looking at a nice windfall payout in the future.

Also. I wouldn't worry about there already being something on the market. A lot of entrepreneurs focus on innovation to their own detriment. Just because there is already one or more websites out there selling the same service or product doesn't mean there isn't still room to grow. In fact, it doesn't even mean that you would be taking from their consumer base. Maybe you attract new consumers do to your marketing or some other element like your design or parallel services you offer.

Think about it. What would Coke be without Pepsi? Microsoft without Apple. Playstations without the Xbox or Nintendo?

After having thought about it for a few more minutes. Here is my advice, do with it what you will.

I would go with a economic networking approach. Be the male-oriented/specific linkedin professional network. Give it a catchier name. I would rename it something like Man-o-War and give it a catchy sub title. Maybe something like: It's a Jungle Out There...awaken your inner predator or something like that. Something that gives it a real masculine vibe. I don't watch it much but I have watched the show Shark Tank. Those types of business guys take a very masculine and cut throat approach. Draw off of that. Hell, maybe even create a logo that has a shark or lion in it.

Make the basic design and features very economic/finance oriented. I haven't looked at the template that you are using yet but I bet you can find some macros or widgets that will pull tweets and articles off the web and display them on the homepage, or give the user the ability to customize a selection of preselected ones, from websites like Forbes, Zero Hedge, The WSJ, and maybe even .gov websites related to business and what not.

I haven't actually used LinkedIn but I would suggest forking some of their controls. Or if you want to go less facebookey then maybe create something a little more oriented towards a forum or an imageboard but still based around a social media platform.

The more I think about it the more I am actually interested in it. So, if you don't do it I might try something similar. Or if you do, and need some help or a partner, let me know.

Isn't that what RVF is?

Besides that, I don't need a social website with my close buddies. We just play bball or grab beers together.

Weird post.

You should make it a men-only referral site / service for getting unemployed guys working again. Networking with a responsible cause - get dudes some jobs.

Other than that, I don't see a need to create a male-only social network. I go to the range with my buddies, that is my networking when I'm not chasing my kids around.

I some of you guys are under estimating its potential. Just because you have a close network of buddies to network with, and being that you are on this forum probably have your shit together, doesn't mean all guys do. A lot of younger guys have grown up on the internet and according to a post on Zero Hedge about 90% of new hires in the 20+ age range are young women.

Roosh V forum and linkedIN (for professional circles) are the only 'social networking' I think is essential for men, along with a few important manosphere blogs for periodical reading. Our lives are better lived outdoors, not on the internet.

i quite like the idea, very niche market though. also it sounds like you will need sql dev help, you will need to build from the bottom up, not top down.
