Eczema

Anyone else here suffers from eczema or any other insidious skin conditions like psoriasis? How has it affected you?

I'm 21 right now and I've had eczema since the age of 3.

It's pretty mild right now, but I was bullied a lot when I was younger and it gave me an inferiority complex for the longest time.

Being bullied so much gave me the motivation to hit the gym and I will be competing in my first powerlifingg meet in January next year.

Right now I am still somewhat subconscious about the scarring that I have on my arms and when I game or go out on dates I usually wear long sleeve shirts.

Have you tried apple cider vinegar? I knew a guy who had bad eczema and he swore by it. (He's not on this forum)

Are you using steroid creams? I strongly recommend googling "topical steroid addiction".

Eczema is a catch all diagnosis that basically means: unexplained skin irritation. Psoriasis is a specific diagnosis and is most likely an autoimmune disorder. In any case be careful with the topical steroids. They can cause permanent skin damage and glaucoma if you use them near your eyes. Personally I've struggled with skin issues in the past and I've found they clear up entirely when I spend more time outdoors, keep my weight in check, and eat a healthy diet. So try those things first before seeking a pharmaceutical remedy.

Oil of Oregano.

I've talked about it on other threads - it really does an amazing job. I've always had eczema/psoriasis. In the past few years, I started getting dry, red skin around my eyes and nose. Put a couple drops on the affected area a couple times a day and see what happens.

Only sides effects is that it burns for little while (don't use to much) and it makes you smell like pizza.

Yeah, I had a really serious outbreak of eczema when I was 12, and dermatitis a bit later. I've gone through a variety of medications since that time and the symptoms have come and gone, and at different locations too.

It still occurred as recently as a few months ago (I'm 26) though nowhere near as bad and I've been pretty paranoid about any factors that would affect it -- climate, the soap I use, etc. Having it fester behind your knees while wearing school trousers made of scratchy wool was quite a nightmare.

It first broke out among my eyes and nose -- before migrating to my joints -- so you can imagine the bullying that followed it.

I ended up suffering from an inferiority complex too, which wasn't helped by the fact that I've been going through various appearance issues that have bothered me until recently. At times, I've felt naked wearing a T-shirt, even during summer.

My response was at times to drift towards contact sports like rugby or alternately to withdraw towards nerdy pursuits. Looking back, I wish I'd turned to the gym instead like you did. I was awkwardly skinny back then and lifting would've done wonders for my esteem.

In a way, mishaps like these, if you respond to it the right way, would actually be a precursor to game, proto-game. Because instead if whingeing about your lot and expect school/the world to give you a free ride, you're going out and maximising what other factors you've got going for you.

Baking soda. Take a cup in the shower and make a little watery paste. Scrub it in affected area and let it sit for a min or two. Then rinse it off. Once out of the shower apply a high end lotion like Aveeno. I noticed after the second time doing the burning sensation went away and then everything slowly started to clear up.

I'm actually going to try Apple Cider Vinegar next.

Eczema

Had eczema for about a year, it started when I was 16. During this period I took up weightlifting seriously and started eating loads of cottage cheese as it was the cheapest protein source. Through trial and error, I discovered that dairy is totally off-limits for me, it causes severe health problems. Also, I got into my first relationship with this pretty young thing but as soon as the honeymoon period was over, I found myself under newfound stress. I believe it was a combination of these things, because as soon as I stopped eating dairy and broke up with the chick my skin condition improved. Fun fact, the dude that got into a relationship with her after me also got eczema haha.

Try to sort out your diet, topical treatment isn't enough. Do some blood-work for hidden food allergies and eliminate the stressors you can eliminate. Keep a log on changes you notice and through trial and error you will find your triggers.

That's interesting. I've had eczema under my eyes for years. Mostly in the winter when it's really dry (I live in the Northeast United States). Will try oregano oil. The pizza smell sounds like a plus to me [Image: smile.gif]

I have a pretty bad case of it which didn't begin to appear until I was about 24. It is completely cured by a prescription cream called Elidel. It's pretty expensive in the United States, but I have bought it in both Mexico and Colombia for a fraction of the U.S. price. Lately, I've been using an over the counter cream which I bought at the supermarket. It's really cheap and almost as effective as Elidel.

Dude this is a duplicate thread. Lets try to use the search function before making new threads so all the advice could be in the same spot. I'm on my phone so I cant link you, but you can easily find the other thread if you search for it.

I used Aveeno on the eczema on my arms.
It cleared my arms up well. I shudder to think that my arms used to be scaly and nasty before.

Do you guys get scarring on certain parts of your body? For me, I have a scar on my left arm that in self conscious about; I feel naked if I don't wear long sleeved clothing.

Also, how dyou deal with getting naked in front of a girl? I've had to do it at night with most of the lights off or in areas where the lighting doesnt make the scarring and pigmentation on my body look so bad; I also avoid areas with bright sunlight in general.
