Travel Memoir - Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

I decided to write a travel memoir detailing my experiences of my June 2014 solo trip to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. It is detailed with pictures to make it an overall exciting narrative. I tend to curse a lot and get into explicit detail about my encounters with the women of the island. If you are interested, check it out the Kindle version or the pdf:

thanks, but no thanks. Why would I pay to read about your trip to Santo Domingo. I can't see your trip to the DR, being much different than the other 100 forum guys that went there and wrote about it for free.

Don't be so terrible Mister!

If they decide to do write ups for "free," that's fine. I wrote it up as my first short ebook detailing my trip. There hasn't been much noise coming from anyone lately about the DR. My trip will inspire people to go return to the Phillipines of the Western Hemisphere. $3 only. That's like a happy hour PBR. If not then cool.

Not trying to knock you but couple suggestions for you. First off DR is a heavily traveled place so like others said it's not like you have anything that unique that the 100 other travel reviews and things don't touch on. Even if your comming at it from game as you knowits a huge sex tourist spot so there's tons of "mongers" forums out there where people talk about girls both free and paid, about hotels that allow guests, etc and all is free.

As far as cover, your cover looks very templatish and just kind of boring doesn't draw attention. I'd highly recommend getting a better cover made, maybe incorporate some pics from your trip or at least make it more attention grabbing.

Also your writeup is terrible. It doesn't draw me in, it doesn't really tell me what the story is gonna be about, it doesn't tease me with any crazy stories of things that happened to you.

Basically all youhave is title and preview blurb to sell this. If you were a consumer would you buy it based on your title, preview and cover?

I would also recommend doing a free promo giveaway. Don't think of it as missing out on money as lets be honest without soem promotion and reviews your probably not gonna sell any anyways. Give a free promo for a few days, let people read it, if its good peopel will leave reviews and that will help you in search ranking as well as credibility. I actually have people pay me $5 or $10 to leave reviews and oftentimes they even have to give and ship a physical product. In your case I know I would be happy to give it a read and even leave you a review and I'm sure some others on this forum would as well, not guranteeing you a positive review you have to earn that but at least would give you a fair reivew and a read but I'm not gonna pay for it. If you give a free promor for 3 days I'm sure myself and a few others members would check it out and leave a review.

One other thing, I'd price this at 0.99 cents, yeah its less money but I gurantee you will sell more. At $2.99 people are still like aah do I take a chance on it? At 0.99 cents people buy without thinking just because the topic looks interesting to thema nd if they don't like it they probably won't even bother returning either. Your book is only 20 pages long, some probably taken up by pics so not much meat there, also you can charge a bit more for how to where someone is going to learn something but for pure entertainment $2.99 is a bit hihg. Price it at 0.99 cents and you won't make as much per sale but you will sell lots more.

Thanks for the constructive criticism jamaicabound. I think my book is a more for the blue-pill crowd anyway who hardly ever leave the country. All of my friends in real life were very excited. Nothing can impress an RVFer when it comes to travel. [Image: whip.gif]

Hey no problem. Yeah I'm no expert in ebooks but have a handful out there, nothing big but make me a few hundred on a good month at the very least $100+ so a nice passive income. I don't really spend much time promoting them oculd probably make more if I did. I got a few ideas for some new ones. Just through trial and error those are a few things I found.

Cover:

for your cover, if you like it and wanna keep it cool, I would at the very least don't make the flag background muted or washed out like it is, make it a bright flag. Reason being if someone is going through looking at a list of books it just doesn't pop, you want something thats going to stick out and make them stop. I'd go to fiverr, pay like 3 different sellers to make a book cover and choose the best one. If you got multiples you can even run some experiments and see if a certain cover sells better.

Preview:

Again, this is your one chance to sell your book to the reader. Put something in that will grab attention. YOu could go to Fiverr and get a couple writeups done. Is your book more educational on here's how to game in DR or is it more entertainment funny stories of you. Share a funny story about something wierd that happenned hooking up wtih a chick, if you got in any trouble ie almost robbed, girl drama, policia at hotel, etc share a leadin to the story and then stop so the reader has to buy the book to continue.

Amazon Promos:

Okay so I can't keep track of all the promos and different programs, some you have to be exclusive with amazon to be a part of others you don't. Take advantage of those though. You can offer your book for free for up to 5 days every 6 months or something like that, definately take advantage. Anytime I offer my book free I get hundreds of downloads. In the past you got better rank by doing this but I think amazon put a stop to that. I know it feels like your giving away free shit but honestly you want people to read your stuff. If they read your stuff they may write about it in a blog, they may make a youtube review, they may leave you an amazon review plus there's all types of blogs that rank and review free books so you'll probably get a lot of free promotion by giving it away. Whenever I do giveaways I'll search around google afterwrods and I normally get a review or couple writeups on other peoples blogs. ALso you can enroll it in something called matchbook I think where people with prime can read your book for free but there's basically a pool of amazon money you get a piece of for your free books to prime members. THey also do those price cut things where if your book is $3 you can offer it for 0.99 cents first day, $1.99 second day, etc.

Price:

Again, I know I mentioned. It seems like oh shit at 0.99 cents I gotta sell 3 books to make what I woulda sold one for at $2.99 however you can't look at it like that. 99 cents is a pretty common easy price point, especially consdidering its not a how to book and length is kind of short. Kinda explained buyers psychology above as well.

Reviews:

Reviews are critical to your rank on searches as well as anyone who stumbleds upon your book is more likely to buy with some reviews good or bad but at least shows people bought the book. I'd recommend giving it away for free for at least a day. If you do report back, I promise to read and leave a review, imagine others would as well. I can't promise a glowing reivew unless it deserves it but at the very least I'll highlight some positive things I like. I actually am interested in DR, havn't been but on my list of places and I've actually read trip reports on websites and blogs all be it free but definately have an interest and wouldn't mind some tips on what hotels allow overnight guests, any hustles to beware of, etc. For more reviews some people may not like this but get some friends and family members to leave reviews, like I said if you giveaway free here I aimgine some forum members would help you out as well.

Format:

I havn't bought your book so not sure how its formated. For something as short as this one this probably doesn't matter but there's some great free ebook templates available online where it automatically formats everything for you, the titles you just plug in your own and they are automatically hyperlinked so if someone wants to skip to chapter 6 all they have to do is press chapter 6 in table of contents and will be taken there. I know alot of people just write a word doc and saveit as a pdf but take advantage of the free covers. I forget the one I use but I remember I had to sign up for an email newsletter to get it but just cancelled after I downloaded.

Where did you go in DR? I"m guessing Sousa/Puerto Plata area? That seems to be the more popular destination with maybe Santo Domingo I hear good things about as well. How did you find the beaches in that area? YOu hear about how beautiful the beaches are in Punta Cana but that's more a family beach destination type place from what I hear without much of a town or nightlife unless sitting at an AI is your thing which it isn't mine. I'd love to go to Sousua or whatever it's called but heard beaches aren't that great, although I guess at least they have some beaches. Also curious about getting from Airport to Sosua. Flights seem to be quite a bit more money if you fly into a closer airport as opposed to PUnta Cana where I hear its a long bus or taxi ride. Been on my list of places to go for a little while now but past few trips decided on other destinations instead

I went strictly to Santo Domingo. That's why my memoir is entitled, "Travel Memoir Series: Santo Domingo, La Republica Dominicana" If you want to count the airport, then I was in the outskirts of Boca Chica. I didn't go to the beach once. The nearest beach from Santo Domingo is in Boca Chica, a 1/2 hour drive. I did go to the Malecon which is on the Caribbean Sea but is more of a jetty with jagged edges.

I have nothing to say about Santiago, Punta Cana, Puerto Plata, etc since I have never been there. I still didn't do Santo Domingo as much as I would've liked since I was solo and was limited by 4 days. That leaves room for a part 2!!! Santo Domingo is as elabayarde put it, "the concrete jungle of the Caribbean," and I can attest to that statement. If you like brown and mulatta pussy like I can't live without and speak a decent amount of espanol, I'd strongly recommend Santo Domingo.

Why the hell do I want to read about your 4 day trip to the Dominican Republic?
Did you do anything that's worth reading about?

You went, and took some photos, and then slept with some local girls, right?
Did you do anything else?
