Let me paint a picture. Uber, Lyft, and other tech industry services that aim to "disrupt" the taxi industry are routinely vilified in the press as taking away jobs from taxi cab drivers, and upsetting the long established apple cart that "people everywhere" love. Now launching in NYC is a service geared towards women taxi riders. The problem, the service says, is that there are very few female drivers and lots of riders who want a female driver, so they launched a service where at least one passenger had to be female; annnnnddddd guess what, the taxi commission could care less. Unlike when Uber was/is eating the taxi commissions lunch, feminism prevails and gives women a service of their own to the exclusion of men. The departing question though is imagine the response after the collective vaginas (manginas) hit the floor if you had a male passenger only taxi/car service or better yet, assuming you can teach women to drive, a service that featured sexy women driving only men around, imagine the tips they would get.

I know of a few, equipment operators and a few OTR truck drivers. They're rare, and some of them even bring drama to that job. One gets super pissy if I drive over her windrows when she's grading. Targetted by Transgender activists for lesbians refusing to drive men who identify as woman. Some suspicion over missing funds deflected by the CEO claiming a portion of all proceeds is donated to women's shelters.

I think that the problem with Uber was that they get around licensing requirements by calling it a private service (if I remember correctly) and thereby reducing their costs.

Having pink taxis (as they do in Dubai), I can't see how this wouldn't be illegal discrimination in a Western country. Both by not employing male drivers (if that is the case) and by sometimes refusing to offer their services based on the sex of the customer.

I'm absolutely fine with pink taxis if it goes both ways as in Dubai where airlines can I guess get away with hiring female only cabin crew and fire them if they become fat or hit the wall.


If they can't find enough female drivers they can always hire a man and claim that he was born female, think the "bamboozled" short movie.
