Diets don't work. Change your eating habits.

What kind of weight loss? Muscle mass? Fat?

What are your goals? Do you want to recomp your body? Lean out or bulk up?

I'm guessing you want to be less fat. That's easy. Lean protein and veggies, cut salt and drink lots of water. Don't eat anything out of packages, avoid sugar and alcohol. Figure out what your basal metabolic rate is and create a calorie deficit.

I calculated my BMR at 2,431 I also found a site that told me how many calories I need to consume to lose 2 lbs. a week based on how much I exercise.

Agree. Giving stuff up is counter productive. Its about creating new habits and taking up eating healthier.

About a year ago for a month I set got off alcohol, soft drink, minimised sugar, trained hard without going over the top and ate pretty healthy, by that I mean fresh, and healthy snacks, for about a month. Never went hungry and just showed some discipline when I craved the junk

I lost 5 kilograms in a that time, and I didn't even notice it as a stretch. But others did. That was all the encouragement I needed

Put a little back on because I didn't change my habits enough, but I know what I have to do now. Take up a better lifestyle, don't feel like I'm depriving myself if I don't eat that those chips, etc

Things like the calorie deficit and knowing your metabolic rate would no doubt help as well, but it can be as simple as what I did for the month to make some positive results in those early stages

Good luck

You can consult the best dietitian in your city because according to your calories requirements the doctor would advise you best diet.

Generally more of a paleo like diet/lifestyle is probably best. You eliminate a lot of carbs (which we honestly dont need that much of). You adopt a diet full of vegetables and meat, along with healthy fats, throw in some occasional fruits or nuts. It's not that hard of a lifestyle to implement either - you may even prefer it.

1st. Remove sugar from your life.

and diets aren't really the solution, you need to think of it as a change in lifestyle.

Reduce your carb intake and completely dismiss sweets. You don't have to completely remove carbs because that is almost impossible in college... so just try to not eat them when you have the option not to.

That will start the weight loss, but I take it you don't want to be the skinny guy with the skinny man pooch. In order to get lean you will need some sort of exercise that will cut you up. I recommend any sport that requires a lot of starting, stopping, and cutting. Basketball and ultimate frisbee are great for this. Go out there and play hard even if you aren't good. Be the defensive stopper and make hustle plays. That will cut you up really well.

Warrior diet. Heavy compound lifts like squats, deadlifts, bench presses and pullups 3-4 times a week.

This combo got me into single digit body fat percentages from 20% in roughly 6 months and muscular.

You can consult the Nutritionist in gym or out of the gym.

If you are simply going for weight loss, tim ferris's 4-hour body plan works well. You don't even need to do any cardio/go to the gym and you should see rapid fat loss through nutrition alone.

Roughly speaking it involves eating like this:
6 days a week: 3 meals per day of meat+vegetables+some beans/lentils (so minimal carbs).
7th day: cheat day - going mental on as much sugar/fast food/cake/pizza/etc as you want. No limits in type of food or quantity, anything goes.

Might seem crazy and counter-intuitive to gorge yourself on junk food one day a week, but it's actually a requirement of the nutrition plan to spike your insulin. And, as if by magic, your weight drops off fast - and you are never hungry because there is no portion control. You will get significant cravings though for carb-rich foods, which is what the cheat day is for.

So if your sole goal is fat loss, I suggest the 4-hour body. If you want gain muscle mass or go with something that is presumably more healthy in the long run, go with Mark Sisson or another paleo-like variation and hit the gym. I found that Mark Sisson's diet didn't work as well for fat loss though. Another bonus with the 4-hour body is that you can (and must) eat delicious crap food one day a week, so you don't have to give up foods you really enjoy eating and still lose weight (even though of course junk food isn't a healthy option).

Yep, I like this too and got me started on intermittent fasting years ago.

For those who don't know, it's a variation of intermittent fasting and you can google the name.

The author doesn't advocate counting calories, but instead has a different method which is to 'feast' at night but do so in a specific order: Greens, Meat, Carbs, Sugar.

Fills you up on greens and meat first, so you don't eat too much carbs. I found it work pretty well.

Yes, it was very effective. Was as close to finding a "magic pill" that I've ever experienced. I lost about 5 kg in the first 5 weeks, without having to go hungry, and absolutely stuffing my face on cheat day with dirty carbs. Started getting a 6-pack (I wasn't overweight to start with) appearing after week 6. By week 10 it was quite noticeable. After that I wanted to bulk up so I switched it up a bit (started drinking milk etc) and my weight went up quite a bit and 6-pack wasn't visible soon after. The bulking up part of the 4-hour body didn't really work well for me (didn't really gain that much and couldn't get myself to eat enough food and ended up quitting), but the fat loss worked like magic.

Later on, I tried Sisson's diet, and it was OK but I didn't see the 6-pack emerging in the same time frame and in fact it never happened and I ended up giving up on the diet after a few months since I was craving garbage food too much and wasn't willing to put in the willpower for rather small returns.

I've been loosely following the Good Looking Loser fat burn diet which can be found here after a fellow RVF member recommended it to me a few weeks ago. I hadn't seen the guy in over a year and when we met up the first thing I said to him was "holy shit you've lost some weight", he was down around forty pounds in two months! I find the diet pretty easy to stick to, I'm eating lots of fish, chicken and meat and have eliminated all sugar, I never had much of a sweet tooth anyway so it wasn't difficult. I also enjoy hitting the gym at 5am before I go to work and find that I have way more energy, I wish I had started doing this months ago but have been procrastinating. I'm down about 10 pounds so far from 165 to 155 and that's only in 3 weeks, which isn't that drastic but my target weight was 150 so maybe I'll try to cut down to 145 or 140, we'll see what happens.

Huh. I'll have to try that in a few weeks.
