DC to Philly

I know this is a shot in the dark but has anyone here lived in Philly and DC and can give me a comparison on what the scene is like in Philly for living and dating/game? For reference, I'm a 31 y.o professional.

I prefer both New York and the Jersey Shore to Philadelphia, but I'll take Philadelphia over D.C. any day. I can think of four ways in which D.C. is superior to Philadelphia. First, in D.C. you don't have people from all backgrounds trash talking every second. As far as I've seen, you don't have people trash talking at all. Maybe people are scared. Second, D.C. has more favorable closing times, although I believe Philadelphia has a decent after hours scene. Third, D.C. has at least slightly better public transportation. Fourth, I think D.C. is much safer. The only places on planet earth where I have ever felt the slightest bit threatened are parts of Philadelphia and parts of Atlantic City, although I get a strong sense that Atlantic City is cleaning itself up. Philadelphia beats D.C. in pretty much every other category. One thing that some people fail to realize about Philadelphia is that you are less than an hour from the beach. Most of your targets in Philadelphia will be Italian, Puerto Rican, Irish, and black and will generally be better than the bottom of the barrel types which predominate the D.C. area. I can't eat the food in the D.C. area and never could. In Philadelphia, I definitely don't have that problem.

Definitely appreciate the feedback. I think as far as game/dating I'm looking for women to be more down to earth/approachable than DC. The DC culture of 6's and 7's acting like they're 10's is making me want to drill a hole in my brain.

Philadelphia is very similar to Baltimore in the type of people that live there and the social scene, so if you've ever made the trek from DC to Charm City to go out for a few nights and liked it, you'll know what you're in store for in Philly.

Cost of Living: DC has become insanely expensive inside the beltway from DC proper to Bethesda to Arlington to Alexandria. I was helping a friend look for a place there over the summer and remarked that apartment pricing in the heart of DC is akin to downtown LA. Philly is a fairly affordable city except for the parts of the city worth living in, such as Rittenhouse Square and Old City. Advantage: Philly

Public Transport: The DC Metro is efficient, runs often, and makes it possible for lots of people to not have cars if they don't want one. Philly's SEPTA only has stops from about 5 miles out from City Hall in either direction along Market St. and Broad St. In the city, the lines run about every 20 minutes and then there are regional lines that go out to the various northern, western, and NJ suburbs. I used it sparingly in Philly--mainly to head to the ball games and occasionally visit my folks in the suburbs. Advantage: DC

Social Scene: As much as people talk shit on the social scene in DC, it's dense and there are quite a few targets, even though they're not too cute. I liked the fact that there was a wide variety of International chicks in DC that were Persian, Indian, Asian, etc. Choosing between the different neighborhoods of DC plus Arlington, Alexandria, Bethesda, it was always easy to rotate social scenes every weekend if you wanted to. In Philly, to find any variety of chicks other than plain black and white, you're going to have to go to University City and lurk around UPenn's campus. The scene in Philly gets old pretty quick. I only found a couple of neighborhoods that I liked going out in (Rittenhouse/Old City) and since many employers are spread out across the Philly region, there are a lot of young cute chicks that live in Conshohocken, Ardmore, etc. that hardly ever make it to the city on the weekends. Advantage: DC

I went to college in the DC area and still had a lot of my social circle in tact for the 4 years I was living there whereas I grew up in the Philly area and returned at 26 to a handful of friends that were married and no interest in the other people I knew from childhood, so I started from nearly scratch on social circle. If you're more of a yuppie type, DC is going to be more appealing than blue collar Philadelphia. I would live in DC again for a great job opportunity but no one could offer me enough to move back to Philly.

I'm 31 and I've lived in DC, Baltimore, and I've spent quite a bit of time in Philly... I was there two weeks ago.

I like Philly, but the problem with Philly is it's ugly. We all think DC is ugly, but take a walk around Philly and you'll see a real lack of talent, much more noticeably less than a place like New York or even DC. I would imagine smashing it more easily in Philly than DC, but I would get bored of the scene quickly due to the lack of cute girls.

Also, you'll find a lot of hipsters in Philly. If that's you're thing, think: girls with shaved heads...

If you're looking for cute girls in and around Philly, go to West Chester... there's a lot of talent there, and it's a nice little town. But I wouldn't live there... just visit. Suburbia...

I can't agree with this. Both New Jersey and New York have better talent than Philadelphia, but none of these places are as bad as D.C. When you see a grenade at the Jersey Shore, she is most likely from Philadelphia or the surrounding area, but generally looks better than her D.C. counterpart.

I'm not from DC but I've been here a little while and most of my social circle is pretty much non-existent at this point. The older I get the more it seems DC is heavy on social circle game so in turn I've become pretty much screwed here. I'm not sure if Merenguero also meant this but I've noticed when I meet women outside of my social circle it's almost like their scared, on some "stranger danger".

West Chester has a lot of talent but is too far skewed on the young side do to the college. Most people move on to other areas once they graduate so it's kind of an odd vibe. Basically families during the day and then drunken college kids.

One of the issues with Philadelphians is that they are some of the worst dressed people on the planet. New York girls(and guys) know how to dress for the most part. It's the sweatpant wearing, Wawa eating donks that roam the streets of Philly wearing socks with sandals that really lower the bar.
