The Inside Scoop on Houston?

TIOT, I wish I would’ve known that you wanted some more loungey type places, there are some good ones downtown like: Tongue cut sparrow, Public services wine and whiskey, Prohibition, Deans. All good lounge spots for a nice cocktail and a booth that always impresses the women. I’m glad you enjoyed the recommendations I gave you, however.

Yes, downtown has a horrible homeless problem. But it’s no worse than any other big city like: Chicago, NYC, LA, San Fran etc. It used to be much worse 10-15 years ago when downtown was a dump, but it’s gotten much better as the city has built up downtown. I get approached by homeless people A LOT since I live and work downtown, but they’re usually harmless and won’t bother you too much if you just say “sorry no cash” or something similar. I’ve encountered homeless people in other cities where you feel like they’re about to rob you, but that’s not the case in Houston.

No worries. Houston offers a lot so no way I could fit everything in on a long weekend anyway. I am sure I will be back once or twice next year and will checkout Midtown more and these other places you mentioned.

On Thursday night's how would you compare Axelrads with the turtle races? Also, speaking of places in Midtown, are there any places you strongly suggest for daygaming or just for happy hours for gaming?

This was directed at OilRig, but I thought would chime in. I live in midtown. In terms of daygaming, I think walking around the apartments are the best bet. There are plenty of attractive gals who live there and have dogs. They tend to be quite receptive as quite a few are transplants. For happy hour, I think there are better places in Houston. From my experience, midtown tends to a bit more quiet. I tend to work pretty long hours so I miss out on them.

One area, I think you should check out is the Heights. It has really been picking up lately. Mcyintre and Heights beer garden tend to be pretty good spots for gaming.

Do any of you guys go to bars in the burbs? I am an inner loop snob but have been wondering what its like going bars in Cypress, Sugarland or Tomball, thinking something along the lines of Mo's Irish Pub. The quality will most likely be lower however I would suspect they would be more receptive. The major issue I run into would be getting home. Although as your Houston folk know, there are tons of drunk drivers here.

Generally not a good idea to leave the loop for game. Unless you're going to Chinatown.

The Inside Scoop on Houston?

Had another Houston visit.

Daygame Places
Memorial Park- This place is still one of the better places to meet women during the day. However, I find that the best time is on the weekend in the morning. Other times during the week just don’t get enough foot traffic. Also, towards the late afternoon, the sun becomes an obstacle as either you are looking into the sun or the girls will be which hurts approaches. I imagine it might still be worth the pain to try during the week right after people get off of work. But I think you will be battling the sun.

The Galleria- This place is also still good to meet women but I would again say only on the weekends because there just isn’t enough foot traffic during the week. But on the weekend, the mall comes alive and you can find plenty of girls to approach. Like most malls, the hotspots are around the food court and cafes or the trendy young women’s clothing shops.

Main Street Downtown- The only day that this seems to be promising is on Friday around the lunch hour 11:00 to 2:00. But it does offer several cafes and patios that have seating conducive to approaching women. Really any number of places along here work but ones you can peak in on include Café Express, Lone Star Taco Company, Moonshiners, Local Foods, The District, Brown Bag Deli, etc. The only challenge is dealing with the occasional jealous coworker who wants to ramble on about her problems. But even if this becomes a reoccurring problem for you, you will still run into tourists here as well who will welcome the approach. Plus, you can run into some IOIs just walking on this street and the one behind it that has the park on it. And that park can be popular around lunch time as well on a nice day.

Night Game
Luigis & Axelrads- This is probably my favorite bar in Houston. The vibe is just setup right to meet people here and has a good cross section of people. Luigi’s is the pizza place that is essentially connected to hit where people will often order food from it and take into Axelrads. And because Luigi’s will then get backed up on a busy night, this creates for a great time to approach girls in the restaurant who are waiting in line, checking to see how much longer the order will be or simply waiting on a friend to get out of the restroom or what not. In these settings, it is pretty easy to start up a conversation. In addition, if things go well you can meet up with them again in Axelrads later that night.

Live Sports Bar- This bar was the biggest disappointment. In theory, it should be a fun bar to go to because it attracts an international audience and the setup is such that you can mingle easily on the upper floor outside deck. But the problem is that on the times I have visited, the crowd tends to be very cliquish and worse the bartenders are cockblocks. They tended to be latino and didn’t like it when you were talking to the pretty Latinas and would act rather passive aggressive about it. In the end, there are just better bars to go to for pickup.

Moonshiners- Although you can certainly approach girls on the patio in groups, I find that this restaurant isn’t the best at night for game. However, it can be a good place to seek out some last minute targets after trying out the other bars.

Little Woodrows- As others have said, this appears to be another good spot. On the Thursday, I visited it was a little under attended and worse had a lot of guys hounding the same cute girls which then makes it harder for you to stand out. But I can see how this would work well enough on other times and should be on everyone's short list.

Pros Of Houston
1.It truly has become a cosmopolitan city where you can find women from all over the world especially Latin America (Mexicans, Colombians, Venezuelans, Argentineans, etc.) and still has some of the southern US beauties.
2.This is a t-shirt and blue jeans town which can be a pro or con depending on your personality. But it is definitely a nice change of pace from some more pretentious cities.

Cons Of Houston
1.A lot of the women have some of the typical US baggage. The average woman here isn’t all that bright so you should expect to have to completely carry the conversations. In addition, you will need to go more indirect approach with the white girls or they will too easily get scared off. Also, you can expect more flakiness compared to European women and surprisingly on the same level as more pretentious US cities despite its blue collar roots.
2.You definitely need a car to get around or you will need to Uber after you get tired of hanging in one spot like Downtown, Midtown, etc.
3.Surprisingly, expensive for a blue collar town. Drink prices are competitive but you get knuckle and dimed with a lot of other costs at the hotels and restaurant and entertainment prices are more than you would think they should be.
