Does Anyone Know How To Replace Drywall For Cheap?

Ok so long story short a party happened yesterday.

Crazy shit happened.

I can go into it over a beer someday but right now some shit needs to be fixed.

So theres one room in the house that has like a shitload of fucking holes and shit kicked in the wall. People's shit got stolen, people threw up and a lot of other ratchet shit that I'd rather just say in person.

So does anyone who's good at DIY home projects know how to fix drywalls with big ass holes in them?

And cheap too? Like at least $400 max?

Cause honestly this is going to be a fun project to fix this shit.

Nope.

Wow that sounds like a crazy night.

I have done some home repair in the past. But I am sure there are real experts on the forum, who do this for a living. Can you post some pics?

Some holes may be worth patching and others might just be faster and cheaper to replace the panels. But the panels are not that expensive http://www.homedepot.com/b/Building-Mate...5yc1vZbb52 unless you really are in the Bahamas, I don't know construction costs there.

If there are a lot, your better off tearing out the drywall, tape and patch the seams, sand and paint and laugh it off.

Post a couple of pics.

Those holes are big. I would cut out the damaged areas and replace with new drywall. Tape and putty the seams, sand, and repaint. If you do it yourself it won't cost too much.

If only you knew how bad things really are.

^rex is right.
Go to your local hardware store, show pics, they'll show you where everything you need is. Won't be a tough project, blast some music and have fun with it.

Haha wtf?

The internet will tell you what to do, no point in typing it all out here, but definitely get a real respirator for sanding.

Assuming two new hollow core doors, I'd guess the project will cost $250-325 including all materials and tools.

I can't speak for the building practices of the Bahamas since I learned what I know in jolly old England. But here's the skinny:
First, is it a partition wall or a foundation wall?
If it's the former you'll need some plasterboard to replace the damaged wall sections, some drywall screws to secure the boards into position on the joists, some multi-finish to plaster over the wall and some decorating bits for painting and finishing afterwards.
If it's a foundation, then you'll need to hack away all the damaged wall sections and concrete any damage to the internal brickwork. After that you'll need some drywall adhesive to secure the new boards to the brickwork (you can use screws with rawl plugs, but they'll be more likely to break under pressure) Finally you'll need some skrim bandage on the edges before plastering.
It can be done with DIY, but your area may have building regulations that need to be adhered to.
I'd advise checking material prices and getting an estimate from a local reputable contractor. Shouldn't be more than one to one and a half days work.

Drywall is easy. Hardy Daytona & samsamsam outlined the process.

You'll need a utility knife, lots of extra blades (worth the couple bucks, working with a dull knife sucks), a straight edge (a metal yardstick or framing square), drywall tape, drywall screws, a screwdriver or a drill with screwdriver attachment (cordless drill is well worth the money to rent, you don't want to be hand driving screws into your studs), drywall mud, a trowel to scrape the mud, sandpaper, a block of wood for a sanding block or an orbital sander if you're a high roller, a drop cloth so you don't fuck up your carpet, some of those paper masks for sanding so you're not sneezing out gypsum dust for 2 days, maybe a drywall saw if you're doing cutouts for outlets... I think that's it.

If a door's a standard size, you can buy a replacement at Home Depot that just drops right in. Pop the hinge pins, pull the old door, move the hardware from the old to new, put on the new one, push the hinge pins back in.

Cut out the bad part, cut a replacement piece on the studs so you have a solid base for the edge. You can buy a stud finder, but really, you're going to find a stud at the corner and the studs are probably every 16 inches starting from a corner. You're going to have to cut holes to match any outlets or switch boxes you find - better to avoid them if you can because it's a whole lot simpler to just avoid cutouts, but if you have to, it's not bad. Screw new drywall in place (screws go into the old studs), tape & mud to get the seams clean, THEN you have to apply texture to match the wall, if it's textured. I can't tell from your pic, but it looks like it's not textured. If it is, you can buy texture in a can and do the knockdown with a trowel. The dude at Home Depot can explain that.

And then have a beer. But don't invite the same friends from last night.

We had a few of those when we were kids and its really funny when someone falls into a wall and takes out a sheet of drywall, you laugh your ass off for a long time. Brought back some good memories. My brother used to punch doors all the time, dumb ass.

You'll have to remove the whole sheet and put a new one in. Will involve painting the whole wall and lots of skim work if you want it to turn out right. I would find a cheap contractor to do it asap.
