Leather Jackets

I'm shopping for a leather jacket, no frills, no cheap plastic buttons like the one above...
All Saints (Europe/UK) and SuperDry (Japan) carry some, but are way expensive to have them shipped to the US. $ towards customs etc. Still looking for something that is pure leather and nothing in the local malls in the US caters to that

PS: I don't know about you guys but bomber jackets make me look older and not in a good way.

Thanks for heads up on Superdry. Didn't know the brand, but they have some nice designs.

Can anyone comment of the quality and durability? They average US$450-500.

Stumbled across this set of pics. This is exactly what I'm looking for in a leather jacket.

It's a bit on the pricey side (~$1,000), so I'm open to more affordable alternative suggestions which from what people have been saying in this thread, I should be able to find. Thoughts?

^ that's extremely nice, but hideously expensive for what it is. I also don't get these designer ones, just not my style I guess. I much rather just get a plain biker jacket (timeless piece of clothing) and wear it in myself, give it its own character. You can get a perfectly good one for way, way less than $900. Sadly I sold mine cause I never really liked myself in it.

It's just a standard Biker jacket with a label. I got one you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference at Value Village for $75.00. Besides, guys in brand new leather jackets look like posers.

Bench and Loom make custom leather flight and motorcycle jackets. They are a little more expensive than Schott. I think this vest looks rather tough.

That's a classic Brando Jacket: probably the most common motorcycle jacket design there is. You can pick a good quality one up for a hell of a lot less than $1000. I bought my last one second-hand for $125, wanting pre-worn to avoid the poseur look during the breaking in period. Think it was Harley-Davidson - great quality leather. Look around.

It's a timeless look, particularly paired with jeans and white t-shirt.

What do you do to keep the leather looking fresh?

Example of R-selected fashion with distressed leather jacket:

Most leather jackets are either in boring 1950s style, have a stupid fit, are loose and baggy or are too feminine.

That leather jacket looks really cool, you have any idea what brand/model it is?

And I got curious about r-selected related to leather jackets. Know its a evolutionary term, but can´t see the connection to style.

This one is pretty similar: http://www.allsaints.com/men/leathers/al...category=9

It depends what kind of leather it is. For natural grain leather I use this Tarrago balm. It softens, refreshes and makes leather water resistant. For suede and nubuck this spray seems to be best deal atm.

For us poor guys, what do you think about getting a leather jacket at the thrift store and then taking it to the tailor to get it fitted?

I know some people order cheaper custom-made suits and shirts in Asia (HK, Bangkok, etc). For those of us who travel to Asia, is there a similar thing for leather jackets? Either custom-made or perhaps cheaper standard ones?

Would a Levis leather jacket be fine or horrible quality?
I would much rather shopping in person at the mall than ordering online. I prefer the plain ones with not too many pockets, no folded collar or the fringes at the bottom etc
I was given a light brown jacket by an old girlfriend but lost it in a move!

This is nice! Slim fit but maybe without the upper pockets. I like the modern look of it. This is something along the lines of what I am seeking.

Again going with Schott, this café racer is slim and simple, but looks good. It's less than $1k.

I like that one and it is similar to the picture I posted. How long does it take for them to not be so shiny and get worked in?

I also wonder if theres a way to speed up the break in process

I found this site which discusses breaking them in and also has a link on different leather jacket styles:

You can actually get leather jackets custom made. Just find an independent designer, or a place that makes custom leather goods, especially jackets and coats. You can go with a few pictures of the designs you like, choose the leather, pick the best features and be measured and custom fitted. Best of all, the jacket will be unique, because you've personally picked the designs and features.

I've done this 3 times in two different locations in the world and have been extremely satisfied. I've easily paid under $1,000 for each.

Just be careful when wearing them where you go out and leave your jacket unattended. I've had 2 of them knicked(stolen) in the past. The 1st one was fortunately not a custom made job, but the second one was....
