I am 100% Irish and come from a predominantly redhead family.

I never tanned well growing up but I found that when I started eating better in my late teens/early twenties I handled the sun a lot better. There is a lot to be said for eating good amounts of fruit and veg. I also avoid peak sun if its too sunny out and try to tan before 11am or after 2pm. If its too intense I just burn no matter if I have a base or not.


I surfer a lot too in Ireland so I would have a great colour in summer but be white as snow in winter.
Some observation with girls taking the above into mind: In summer I would do very well with white girls who loved my tan and surfer blonde hair (it changes colour in summer). They would comment on my tan a lot and I definitely got way more attraction of the bat.

In winter I would get more attraction from Asian and Black girls when my tan faded and my hair goes red. They would comment on my white skin and loved playing with my redhair. White girls were a little bit harder and that initial attraction wasn't as strong.


Since moving to Canada I don't get a solid summer tan anymore. I seem to be attracting a lot more 'exotic' girls and much less white girls then back in Ireland. On tinder (good way to gauge visual attraction) I get a lot more responses from Asians, South Americans and Black girls.

I have never travelled to Asia or South America so I can't comment on that. I did find in Costa Rica that the white girls travelling were going for the most tanned/dark guys and even with the accent I was finding it much harder to get solid attraction then back in Canada. Again white girls like to date up tan wise ha.

Overall - White girls in general seem to be attracted to tanned white guys more then pasty white guys.
- Black, Asian and 'exotic' girls seem to like the white factor.

I also adjust my fashion to suit what type of girl I am after and what time of year it is. I can elaborate on that if someone wants.

Dusty, how much does spray tanning cost and how often do you need to do it to maintain it?

IMO the paleo approach, which I've used somewhat, will increase the amount of time you can spend in the sun without getting burned, but I would still don sunscreen for times when I'd be in direct sun for more than an hour. If I found myself using a lot of sunscreen, I'd make my own.

Depends on the city. It's not cheap. $25 a shot or so. It lasts 5-7 days.

I had a membership at one point that was $75 a month with unlimited sprays. I think it was the same costs as a tanning bed membership.

This might seem like "broscience" but I seem to remember coming across a research paper which suggested carrots actually might enhance a tan.

Anyway, I'm glad to be pale. If anything I'd use skin whitening than get a tan.

Wow the pale players come out of the woodwork in droves. Well there have been some really solid comments and food for thought. I actually felt I had a decent shot at getting a warning for Pale White Guy trolling when I made the thread.

I think if I wanted to try I would do the light spray tan with no bronzer once as suggested. Like I stated before tanning beds, and staying in the sun constantly isn't realistic with my schedule of working weekdays, and being out late on the weekends and hung over the next day. I try to get in the sun for a bit every Saturday and Sunday but again my tolerance before burn takes weeks of daily sun exposure to build (downside potential skin cancer haha).

I see being pale as similar to being bearded in the sense that I'm inclined to believe the idea of a 'peak beard' watershed approaching where having facial hair no longer serves to set you apart from other guys because it's no longer unusual.

It's not the 90s anymore, no need to be tanned. The media did a good job convincing everyone that they should be, so much that we had girls ruining their skin on sunbeds in droves here. I bet these girls wish they were born 10 years later as the fashion has pretty much swung back in the opposite direction (especially for women).

As for me, I'm pale with dark red hair (but not quite as light skinned as typical red haired people because I have brown eyes and dark eyebrows etc.), and I do fine with white girls (although I pretty much only go out to student places, or indie and electronic music venues where the middle class girls are - I imagine I'd have less success in mainstream chav places).

Regarding other races, Asian girls like me, some black girls really like me, and surprisingly I killed it in Spain (had one girl tell me that I'm exotic lol - my friends had a good laugh at that).

I thought the same thing until I tried it.

It seems to me that because every chav guy seems to slap on a bottle of fake tan or buy a ticket to the tanning salon the day after receiving their paycheck from McDonald's religiously, being a pale guy can help set you apart as the guy with the greater value (in this case because of your higher social status) in a chavvy place.

Was in the sun intermittently for several hours yesterday, didn't burn at all. Put sunscreen on my face and arms, but not my ivory legs, no burn in either. I am also a very pale White guy. I have found that this hasn't really had any negative impact on my interactions with women; in fact, I would say that it's something that makes me stand out from all of the other guys.

I find it very interesting how I have had similar experiences to what other posters in this thread have had regarding attracting girls. The girls who I tend to attract usually fall into one of the following two groups:

1) Very pale White girls, usually blonde (but not necessarily). I agree that there is probably a certain element of familiarity at play here.

I know those feels. I need a good 45 minutes every second day to get even a mild tan, but that is because I sit inside like everyone else for most of the day. I don't tan and it's gone in a week. I know I look better with a tan, look much more healthy and also younger. I doubt tanning outside for an hour or so is a major problem. People used to work outside for hours. If you're in socal why not just set off an hour every other day, provided you have a job that allows you to do so?

Besides, judging from the number of umbrellas I saw in Hong Kong on a sunny day, chinese girls desire paleness. Then again, some Thai girls have joked about my paleness. In fact chinese and east asians are pretty pale in general, but I've noticed they tan quite easily. Their children who play outside are often brown while they are white. At the beach in Taiwan, people were looking on with (friendly) fascination. It was probably the first time they had seen someone as pale.

In Japan people on the beach look sometimes but don't really care. They have seen it all before.

Anyhoo; I agree about the socio-economic pit and tans. I've met a lot of people with tans or obsess over it and were lower class individuals. But it is a disease which has infected most young women in the UK.

Here in Colombia, and speaking as a pasty person, I don't think it's THAT common for girls to go crazy over pale dudes. This is a common myth perpetuated by the fact that there is a small class of gold diggers here who climb all over you if they think you have money or are a foreigner which in their minds are the same thing. There are also women who just think blonds and gingers are more attractive but they're not the majority either.

I think the world over, being too light OR too dark-skinned works against you; it's somewhat polarizing. In pure physical terms the best is to be somewhere in the middle of the spectrum.

I really don't mind being white, I HATE having a pink face, but I have no idea what to do about it... so far I've just lived with it....
