So what is the secret mission for which this whole mission to Mars is a cover? You said India originally wanted to blow the cover on the Mars bases? It seems that, unlike the moon, we can see all of the surface of Mars from a telescope. Would not the bases be visible to amateur astronomers and anyone with a nice telescope in the back yard, who lives away from an urban center and light pollution?

Why are you feeding the troll?

This is absolutely true. Why the fuck IS the US wasting money on NASA when we're in something like 17 trillion dollars of debt and people are homeless? What a waste of my hard-earned tax dollars...

Frankly, if the government is going to forcefully take money out of my pockets, I prefer they use that money to launch shit into space than to put it into the pockets of idle street people and serial single-mothers.

This might be the greatest argument against the rampant abuse of welfare funds that is going on in the west today: any other kind of spending is better, even launching shit into space.

Well, I meant "shit" in the colloquial sense, but now that I think about it, even if it's literally shit that is being launched that's still better than rewarding able bodied individuals for their laziness and poor decision making.

That was not a secret mission. That was just a mission to Mars by real scientists of India...who are all fired. The cover is this mission that is gaining so much media publicity all over the world.

Madhavan Nair guy wanted to know the truth, they have advanced telescope and they did not find Mars to be red as shown in images with no vegetation...its not completely rock and desert as it is made out to be....

Fuck yeah! Good for them. I'm really looking forward to seeing how India progresses over the next few decades. I originally hail from the city of Chennai in South India and visit there about once every three years. The changes I've seen have been pretty phenomenal. Large scale modernization in a lot of areas, a general flourishing of the economy, and a noticeable reduction in poverty. We're seeing malls that look like they could have come from the future, actually decent subway systems and public transportation, and a general uptick in relations between various ethnic groups and religions. India's sociopolitical landscape's going to be fascinating in 2050. I doubt regions like Bihar are going to gain first-world levels of development any time soon, but we could see the more civilized parts of India surpassing the west in decades to come. A couple capable leaders could make a gigantic difference.

And who knows, 50 years from now we might have a majority Indian RVF, with sporadic visits from a White Race Troll bemoaning his inability to pick up Indian girls...

Wow I just landed on the racist troll piece of shit that is this thread....don't know what to say about that.

But regardless, sending a ship into orbit on the first try, for less than the cost that it took to make 'Gravity' is impressive. As a person who grew up reading Asimov, Herbert, etc - and also someone who has a very strong background in Cosmology/Physics - I certainly believe that the future of the human race lies in outer space. The Earth IS going to die, and certainly become uninhabitable long before it does. Even before that we have a very real threat from Super-Volcanoes. This reality has nothing to do with your views of climate change/global warming propaganda. The end of the liveability of Earth may be very very far, but it is real and we have to do something about moving out if we do not want to put an expiry date on ourselves. Since the End of the Solar System will be soon after the end of the Earth, it is not just enough to be able to build a liveable colony on the Moon or Mars. We must get out of the Solar System atleast, and possibly will have to get to far parts of the Galaxy to find proper hospitable environments. This currently is not only not possible - but would also take longer per trip than multiple human lifetimes.

However, we have more proveable knowledge of space, dimensions, particles, and fields, than we have ever had. This is not like when people believed the Earth was flat. That was a blind belief. Our science today is proven, or atleast proveable. Superluminal travel, or atleast interdimensional travel, is real. Quantum teleportation is real. We just need to advance it.

In short, money put into an efficient space program is a very solid - in fact vital -investment that I fully back. Plus a thriving advanced space industry decades down the road would open up a plethora of immediate job opportunities at the low end, as well as open ourselves up to mining resource opportunities.

As for India as a country, the problems it has are real but greatly exaggerated by western propaganda machines. It will work out however, because we are finally out of the clutches of the Italian gold digger and finally have a father.

Also I just noticed the Space conspiracy theory...I want to just say WTF...but I am intrigued.

Now while I don't doubt the CIA and NASA are in fact trying to undermine Indian and other space agencies, I don't know about martian moon bases... Sounds like Dr.Evil's Alan Parsons Project.

You are right though that if the CIA monopolized Mars early and used it to solidify US hegemony, that would work. However I don't think that is happening, simply because there are too many intelligent Physicists - not all of whom are under the US pay. I agree that the US would try to control information, but any Physics student writing his thesis in Space Physics would be able to make conclusions about Martian terrain based on the data. Out of the thousands of students, atleast a couple would be smart enough to recognize these patterns. Unless they are buying off or assassinating all of these people, its crazy talk. Also the ISRO head who was fired...if he had found martian space colonies, then he would say something about it...no?

All the shit you are saying about "real India, poor India" I know. But things are improving. Indian is rising, and I just spent 3 months in the country, and went to parts rich and poor. I am certainly worried about US propaganda and covert campaigns against a rising India, but a lot of this is happening subtly, not in crazy ways like this. I am more worried about brainwashed rich white girls with liberal arts degrees coming to our villages and spreading feminism - in the same way the Europeans first came as missionaries to spread Christianity. I am more worried about the US [with its liberal allies in India] trying to create a brainwashed 'Brave New World' using media and entertainment. I am more worried about commercials with feminist overtones on Indian television, and what they portend, than secret martian bases.

Cheers

They've done well, I'm glad they've done it. The poverty arguments are absolute bullshit, there's actually more people as a percentage in poverty in the UK then in India.

£45m of investment in space technology leads to other advances as it did for the USA (inevitably the rest of the world) in the 60's and 70's.

Hmm…are you sure about this?

I'm pretty sure we determine poverty as having an income a certain percentage below median income or something. So not an absolute poverty, more relative poverty.

To be honest, I don't think there is a single person in poverty in the UK by global standards.

Either way, it's a fine achievement by India.

Apparently so, something I saw on the BBC about the spacecraft. It was posted in the comments with a link.

There is no US propaganda against a rising India. We need them to counter China. With the amount of illiterate masses and infrastructure challenges India will never contend for global supremacy. That said, there are tens of millions of Indians smart enough to create globally competitive companies, influence media, go to Mars, etc....

So yeah congrats to India hopefully this will inspire others to keep up their space programs and make them more efficient.

India won't be countering China, India are in opposition to the USA. India have long had a Soviet link. China are going to build railways in India, India are sending scientists to China. India China and Russia are creating a new world bank.

Narendra Modi will not forget the way your government slighted him.

The problem with the USA when it comes to India, you've always supported Pakistan.

Exactly, Modi has been the bigger man in not mentioning the fact that the US wouldn't even give him a visa, and now welcomes him with open arms...what a load of shit.

He is the strong father we need, and India has long had ties with Russia. Now the USA should for their interests reach out to India, us being the two greatest democracies in the world, but time and again the US has tried to sabotage Indian interests - I believe because they know what the nation is capable of.

Indian relations with China have been historically tense...so we will have to see how that works out. Personally I don't trust the Chinese [gov obviously] and I think neither does Modi.

Cheap is the important word here. There's a saying, "You get what you pay for."

Let's compare the functionality, reliability and quality of the two products side by side before saying India is smarter and better than the USA, because that's exactly what the message of that article is trying to get across.

And that message is just more slight of hand, propaganda, slick salesman bullshit.
