motivating to dress well

I dress decently when I go out looking to meet women (i.e., at night). But I'm lazy about dressing well when running errands and such. Knowing that I look like a bum makes me less likely to approach women I might see on the street, coffee shop, etc.

I'm not trying to be all G Manifesto about it, but simply trying to get to a point where I always leave the house looking good enough that I don't feel like my attire is holding me back from chatting up a cute girl I make eye contact with.

Any guys here get over a natural tendency to dress in sweats and sneakers?

In all reality, you should be going out to lookign to meet women when you are running errands. I can get myself just as excited to go to the mall and running errands as I do when I'm getting ready to go out on a Saturday night.

I don't get all dressed up...but I put on clothes I feel I look good in. A V-neck tee shirt and some sneakers are typical, but I don't feel like it would hold me back.

Leave the sweatshirt at home and plan on meeting women in addition to getting your to-do list done. That should be motivation enough...at least it is for me. [/b]

There is a happy middle-ground between uber-stylish like the G-Man and a Walmart partron, and it's how I roll.

It sounds like your problem is that you only have shitty casual, dress-down clothes. Your casual wardrobe shouldn't consist of your old, out-of-style college sweats or the free, throw-away t-shirt you got at the 5K your ex-girlfriend walked three years ago. It's as important as your Affliction t-shirt and pointy shoes you put on to go to the club. You should be throwing all that other shit in the donation bin.

I tend to buy nice clothes even to hang around the house with friends. If I got to go to the corner to get a newspaper in sweats and a t-shirt, both of those items are designer and interesting-looking--even if it's basic and unadorned. And, when I have chicks over, I can look and feel comfortable but still be able to project the image I want.

Mastering the art of "shabby chic" takes time and personalization (it has to work for you), but it's the way to go.

Tell me you are joking with this. [Image: dodgy.gif] Lord knows when I walk into a club and see Ed Hardy/Affliction betas everywhere, it screams "ordinary". There is nothing original or says "I dress well" about these 2 brands.

Now, the pointy shoes are cool, especially the Mark Nason ones.

LOL. I was totally joking about the Affliction shit! [Image: banana.gif]

Wheeeww! Relief! [Image: blush.gif]

Funny story, my brother (23), huge MMA fan and MMA athlete bought me some Ed Hardy T-Shirts for my 36th B'day a few months ago.

Now, I had to literally bite my tongue as I opened my present and saw Ed Hardy shirts. I thought I was on hidden camera or something.

I never had the heart to tell him how much I loathe Ed hardy clothes. But, the T-shirts make great towels to dry my dog after I bathe him. [Image: sleepy.gif]

That's hilarious. If my brother got me that, I couldn't resist laughing my ass off. Those MMA guys love on the Ed Hardy at its ilk.

Even though you clearly put the shirts to good use, I probably would have taken them to some nice store that sells the brand and tried to get some store credit. (The old it-was-a-gift-and-I-therefore-don't-have-the-receipt trick.)

And, who knows, you could maybe take the opportunity to holler at a cute store-girl.

I know this is off topic, but who takes care of your dog when you travel.

Usually my neighbors, who also have a dog. You can also try a local search on Angie's list for dog sitters, dog hotels and check out their reputation. Yelp.com is also a good resource to review pet hotels.

I live in sweats and sneakers. But not just any sweats. I like to wear nice stylish sweats. Some are "fitted" around the waist and lower legs. I always wear them with matching Nikes and also with silky "Dri-Fit" shirts and "fitted" urban vests over it. Often times I also wear a matching "beany hat" (wool cap). I have a couple different shades of grey, basic black and silver and off white. Don't think of it as "just sweats". Put together a nice looking outfit. I never wear big over sized sweats. Always something that fits me right. Sometimes I tuck in the shirt to look a little sharper. I also like full sweatsuits and valor suits. I have some nice Ecko, Nike, and Fila suits. I also like full soccer training sweats like a matching top and bottom of one of the big European clubs. And of course Nike tennis gear is sweet. Rafael Nadal wears some sick sweats before matches sometimes.

The bottom line is wear higher end sweats and don't be in a rush to leave the house. Take an extra 5mins and make sure you are crisp, clean and matching. And of course, having a pair of new clean sneakers on makes the whole outfit. This way you are comfortable but still looking and feeling good and ready to meet some ladies.

If I meet in girl in sweats I will usually dress up nice the next time I see her to let her see my versatility. I love when they say..."OMG, I didn't even recognize you"

Clothes are one thing every guy needs to choose himself. I would never try to tell someone how to dress. That's whatever u like and feel comfortable in. As long as its clean clothes and not sweats every day

This is a great topic b/c lately I have been to a coffee shop across from my gym and seen some nice solo talent, "reading" magazines. The problem has been that I am in my grubby gym clothes, so like someone suggested I have to update my gym clothes.

Anyone bought a particular piece of clothing that they get lots of compliments lately?
