College humor on shrinking attention spans.

Same guys who did the video debunking circumcision. I'm really starting to like their style.

I couldn't watch it to the end [Image: biggrin.gif] no kidding. The message is good. People are masturbating to Buzzfeed rather than reading a well written article, let alone a book. But you get the message from the first 10 seconds, the rest of the video is building and elaborating on that. That's why I'm not gonna watch it to the end and instead read another long ROK post (as long as it doesn't include a number in the title!)

Didn't watch till the end. Not because I can't concentrate on shit, but because it neither provides entertainment nor any value. Kthxbye for wasting my time.

This video is pointless after a certain time, that itching feeling to close it is because of it's pointlessness. If we payed attention to every pointless thing we came across we would waste a great deal of time. Though they have a point, I sometimes skip to the end of an article rather than read the whole page.

The rewards I see from working is what made me an addict.
There's way more people that want it than people that have it.

Yes, she's also fat, curses like a sailor, and has her own Youtube "channel."

^ Plenty of research into this already, that I've already read, so I made the choice not to watch.

When I was younger, I used to feel obligated to finish a book if I'd started it. I gradually realised that I was spending a large majority of time wading through garbage just to prove a point to myself, never once disproving my first instinct wrong: that a book that wasn't holding my attention wasn't worth my time.

Doesn't matter if it's a book, or a movie, or an online article: if you can recognise ineptness at the beginning, don't waste your time. If I miss out because it 'gets good later on', I'm willing to take that risk, because the rewards from sitting through a 2 hour movie that doesn't get good until near the end are smaller than watching one that's good for the whole length.

Perhaps the best way to measure up this kind of thing: recognise the difference between stimuli that offers interest and information vs. mental stagnation. If something is boring you, do something else that fully-engages you.

Works even better for choosing your associates.

Video was funny for a while but got Pretentious real quick.

These posts make me wonder if this is what the majority of us red pill guys do all day, find shit to bitch and complain about instead of. . .

spending more time bettering ourselves.

Maybe that's something we should all think about.

I did right in the first 3 seconds, the entire "you can't concentrate on shit message" had to be proven by a gimmick in the video. Predictable from the title of the video alone.

Thought this whole topic is somewhat interesting. It's amazing even in say the past 10 years how far technology has come. I'm 30 so not super young but not old and when I was in college nobody had cellphones, the few people whho did had old cellphones obviously no data, streaming music and movies was just comming out and the hottest thing but very slow to the point you'd download some stuff and come back a day later to find it still downloading.

I'm as guilty as the next guy at using my phone as a crutchh for boredome. Whether your on a train, waiting in line somewhere, in a waiting room, etc we all are glued to our phones. Heck even people out to eat together who are ideally probably supposed to be enjoying one anothers company and having a nice dinner are both face deep in their phones.

I heard a quote the other day something about the pope saying technology is ruining peoples quiet thought or something along those lines.

Whether your religious or not I think this is true. Actually try to think of the last time you were just alone with your thoguhts not distracted by anything. It's possible to go through your entire day to when you go to sleep without ever being alone wiht your thoughts or anytime for quiet reflection and by quiet reflection I don't mean anything religious simply thinking about stuff, life, etc.

I've been kind of challenging myself lately to give myself time to just sit and think, ponder life, think about goals, 5 yearr plan, etc as opposed to occupying every second of my day with checking emails, playing games, looking at boobs on pinterest, etc.

I actually sat through the entire video but like the guy said your brain is lke itching for some stimulus

There is a reason why every "best of vine" youtube video has a hot girl in swimwear on it.

I'm not sure how hat was so hard. Did I focus 100%? No. Probably 85% because it didn't require for me to be 100% engaged like learning material. But it was only three minutes, if people had their brains melting from that then that's pretty messed up.
