I hesitate to write this, because I don't like to get too personal and I don't want to be called out as Beta.
But newbie board member "thegreenman" was asking about ways to escalate, and I realized that giving foot massages has always been a way for me to turn a chilly "Eh, let's sit and talk" into an open-armed "Oooo...come here!" (actual example).
I personally hate to have my feet touched, but for some reason, women seem to love it. Maybe it's because their shoes make their feet ache, or maybe it symbolizes something to them. Whatever the reason, when done right, a good foot rub can really change a woman's mood. It can change it more, I've found, than a backrub or a few drinks. And...it's a really good way to initiate body contact without doing the cliche arm-around-the-shoulder bit.
I've done this so much I didn't even think to bring it up before because it's second nature. But maybe an example from last week will prove useful to some of you.
I was sitting on my couch with a woman, me on one end, her on the other. She wanted to "talk" (i.e. complain about everything while I nodded). She had taken her shoes off and stretched out her legs. Her feet kept hitting my knee, then moving. Then she'd do it again. (I think this kind of thing is an IOI that a lot of guys might miss...including me in the past with other situations.)
At one point my hand was there and I just held onto her foot, started lightly rubbing, and didn't break the convo or even acknowledge what I was doing. And I hit paydirt.
I think there is a tendency in these parts to not want to do stuff like this because it's somewhat subservient. And you don't want to be the Beta orbiter giving foot rubs to "friends" (gag).
BUT...done right, this actually puts you in the driver's seat when the woman starts to "melt" (her words) to your touch. After you start with the feet, moving up the leg a bit sends a sexual message without being overt. You need to improvise on what works, but when talking stops and moaning starts, that's the sign you're doing it right.
So, thegreenman, if you're reading and someday you've got a woman who seems receptive but is too cool for her own good, this is a way to melt that heart of ice.
