‘Rape culture wins’: Feminist freakout after Miss Nevada suggests self defense

If she is getting wet while getting "raped" it's not rape. [...] Are we to believe now that women have no control over if they get wet and aroused? Are women free of that responsibility also?

Yes, that is exactly what we are supposed to believe, because it is true. Women don't have control over if they get wet (which doesn't necessarily indicate any kind of pleasurable arousal anyway). We don't have control over when we get hard, as anyone who has gotten an embarrassing boner, or not been able to get hard when he wants to, can tell you.

Vaginal lubrication doesn't necessarily even mean arousal, at least not in the sense of being excited and wanting to have sex. Women get wet watching chimps fuck. Doesn't mean they want to fuck a chimp. Some newer sex studies are using more sensitive instruments to measure clitoral engorgement rather than mere lubrication to tell what actually turns women on, rather than simply physiologically preparing them for sex. Some theorists think that the "sex is happening, I'd better get wet" response is actually an evolved defense mechanism to prevent too much injury during the forced sex that may have been common in the ancestral environment. http://bps-research-digest.blogspot.com/...5eBtyiW_wI

On the self-defense issue, I am a big guy, but I have always thought it would be difficult to control any reasonably athletic woman well enough to rape her...if I wasn't willing to hurt her. I've wrestled around with girls enough to think that it wouldn't be that easy to hold a determined girl down, get her panties down and my cock out, etc., unless I was willing to bash her a couple of times to take the fight out of her.

there is a feminist agenda around resisting any emphasis on self defense; I can feel it, but it is hard to put my finger on. Take a typical dorm-room date rape scenario, like in the Harvard Crimson letter or the recent George Will column. The woman gives an ambivalent 'no' once or twice, the guy keeps trying, she acquiesces, then calls it rape later.

I understand why the law should not, as it used to, require 'utmost resistance' to prove rape. If some scary stranger pulls her into an alley and holds a knife to her throat, the only safe thing may be to go along. But is Bob, her friend who lives down the hall in the dorm at Yale, really going to bash her face in if she resists? Who thinks that a lot of these 'rapes' couldn't be stopped by one good bite or some fingers in the eyes? It isn't so much a matter of winning a fight as putting up enough resistance that there is no way to think she wanted it.

The upside would be a lot of girls wouldn't be made to have the sex they are claiming they didn't want. The downside is a few girls would get injured to some degree in successfully or unsuccessfully fighting off the rape. And feminists want no part of it. Why?

If these women put up a little resistance and the guys stopped, it would show that they weren't rapists, just persistent and perhaps clumsy would-be seducers.

I guess it comes down to this: if she's allowed to give one or two ambivalent noes and then go along, she can decide later whether it was rape or not. If she's expected, in common sense if not in law, to put up some kind of resistance if it is something she doesn't want, then she has to take the responsibility of deciding right then. And we know how feminists feel about female responsibility.

Not just feminists. Leftists in general are vehemently anti-self defense.

They wish to stamp out individualism, have you rely on the state for your protection, and leave you with no means to resist state oppression.

Because it runs so counter to female empowerment that feminists claim to want, it's a great line of attack. You'll never convince the hardcore, but the people in the middle will understand that a gun is a better tool to fend off a rapist than peeing or vomiting on yourself.
