Northern Cyprus/Turkish Cyprus

As you all know, cyprus is pretty expensive. has anyone gone to Northern Cyprus instead? I heard it`s way cheaper (due to the turkish lira)

any ideas, about the place, hotels, lodges, stuff to see etc.?

it`s part of my middle east trip.

Cyprus is relatively expensive. Turkish side is pretty under-developed and cheap but nothing special. Full of retired ex-pats etc.

I could go on and on but honestly, it's only worth it for the gambling and some food.

Southern Cyprus is a blast, I can pull out a full datasheet if you want.

Definitely worth a visit I'd say.

Very different to the 'Cypriot side'. It's like a whole different place altogether. It's less developed, less-touristy, a whole different vibe. Probably nicer beaches too.

We stayed there in a tent on some small private beach of these two local guys that my friends had randomly met there on an earlier trip. Was quite a surreal experience.

I'd avoid called it 'Turkish Cyprus' when talking to Cypriots.

Northern Cyprus is like 40 years behind in development. It is like time stopped in 1974.Turks are not good in construction they do not have skill.Beaches have some Russian girls always with Turks near them who do not lose a minute to invite them for coffee they hit unstoppably.
They are also very quiet and laid back there is not this temperament and hot situations(loud music, drinking, high energy) like in the Greek part.In general two different worlds(Agia Napa vs Kerinia).
Turkish guys are a lot poorer than Cypriot guys but that does not mean you are in advantage since in turkish part and in Turkey in general you have to behave.(there is social control).

What is funny and made me laugh non stop in Northern Cyprus(where I visited a Russian girl) was that turkish Cypriots have the same accent in turkish as Greek Cypriots have in Greek.(you understand when you come from Greece it is very funny how they pronounce thw words and almost sing).

I'm off to Kyrenia next week for a wedding. I'll drop a mini datasheet when I get back.

It's easy. Fill out a form at a border crossing in Nicosia with your passport in hand, and you're good to go. There used to be a rule that you had to get back by 5pm some years ago, but now it's a lot more relaxed. To get to Nicosia from Larnaca take one of those mini-van shuttles (cheap) or an actual cab (more expensive).
