Huge Beginners Guide to Men's Style

Guys, soon it's time for me to head to a tailorshop to get myself a badass peacoat.
Do you know any websites or anyhting where I can check out some models.
I think it's time to start planning. I need a peacoat for cold Arctic climate.

What are you guys wearing?

I think Schott's peacoats look fairly bad-ass, just like their A2 jackets. I hope to buy one someday. They appear to be fairly heavyweight. My current peacoat comes from J.Crew and it works ok, but I don't think it looks as good as the Schott.

This is why you must never wear a fedora.

I don't know man.

I worn a straw fedora at a bar in SC and this drunk girl basically let me fuck.

I think it all goes with like congruency. If you look like the dude above and look like a complete faggot, then take that shit off.

Nope.

So many reddit neckbeard chodes wear fedoras these days that wearing a fedora would make someone look like a faggot by association. Your look and vibe is basically the opposite of that though, so I can see how you escaped it.

Does anyone know what the hell these shoes are by any chance?

That's a classic wool overcoat. The British also call it a "topcoat".

Do you guys have any advice for me? I recently went down from a XL to a L in terms of shirts. My pants are fine, as they were small to begin with. However, I can't afford a new wardrobe. How can I rock the shirts I already have, even though they are a bit baggy?

Just carry on wearing you current gear. Dressing well is not the holy point to picking up women.

I really dislike the current trend for pants to be too short.

If only you knew how bad things really are.

If you can't afford to buy new shirts, you've got a whole lot more problems then just your style. Go get your cash flow sorted instead of asking dumb questions.

Second of all, why do you assume the only reason to dress well is to get girls? That is a loser mindset.

Not only that, but even when not rolled up they are too short. Look at the black guy above with the bow tie.

The other thing going commonly going along with this trend is for suit jackets / sportscoats to have too short of a sleeve.

For example, not every model, but a significant number of these guys look like their pants and sleeves are too short:

Leaving girls aside why do people dress well, what is the psychology behind that? I wonder as I only dress well to attract women.

To look like you belong, it gives you presence and power. Try to negotiate a multibillion deal with a hoodie and pants. Only Mark Zuckerberg can do that.

I bought the Dr. Martens 1460 in Cherry Red. They were a pain to break in but I like them for hipster/dive bars and they give me a height lift.

Can anyone suggest a somewhat masculine winter jacket, that's not a pea coat, duffle coat, or like JCrew's university coat? I'm looking at spending something around $150. If I can sell my Barbour jacket, then I can spend more, so post away. Just so I can get an idea, of what I could look into.

Thanks.

Quilted jacket, field jacket, or Harrington jacket. The quilted jacket and Harrington might require additional layering underneath if you live in a colder clime. Most of the major retailers like BR or JCrew will carry a quilted jacket. There are tons of different versions of the field jacket all over the internet. You can find some used, high-end ones cheaper on eBay. A few months ago I saw some $150 Harrington jackets on Amazon.

I own all three. My cotton quilted is from a brand I don't recognize I bought on sale from Nordstrom for about $100. I had to get it taken in the sides, but now it looks sharp. It's not warm enough if the temperature is below freezing, however, unless I wear a good sweater underneath. My cotton field jacket was $45 from American Eagle and looks a lot like the one in the photo. The armholes are too big, unfortunately, so the shoulders feel stiff. I bought a black waxed-cotton Harrington off Amazon a year ago when it was $120. It also doesn't work in below freezing temperatures, but it's a tough looking jacket. It was a slim fit so it's hard to layer underneath it.

Obviously, the field jacket looks more rugged. The quilted is more refined/rakish. And the Harrington is somewhere in between.

The black dudes pants look short mostly because of his shoes, which he's wearing on purpose to show off his socks. Personally I think walking around with your socks visible like that is for homo's, as that guy (and most men pictured in any style blog) no doubt is.

No hate on wearing cool socks though, I happen to own the exact same pair of socks as in that picture and girls always compliment them and the rest of my cool socks. However, they should only be worn as a perfectionist finishing touch on an outfit, that should only be visible when seated, as socks are supposed to be. To have your socks be a centre piece of your outfit for people to see when walking around like that is too attention seeking and flamboyant in all the wrong ways. I mostly see homo's doing it by rolling their pants up well past their ankles.

Another thing I can't stand is the suited down loafers no socks thing, it is completely ubiquitous at the moment. I just can't get over how instinctively feminist it is. I saw a picture of Yeezy rocking it recently and he looked like he'd take a BBC where the sun don't shine.

Personally I think if you're wearing loafers or boat shoes you should be wearing them sockless (like they're supposed to be worn) but not trying to show off extra skin.

I think the white shirt with yellow pants is a good look, especially if you have medium-dark hair to keep it from washing out your face color.

You can buy a Ben Sherman Harrington for $120 which is what I have, but it's not that warm compared to a more expensive barracuda or merc variant. You could also try an Alpha Industries MA-1 Bomber which is a classic and looks very masculine for ~$130 and is very warm, here are some fit pics (not me) 1, 2.

I picked up a Calvin Klein Collection leather jacket off eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/191264728292?redirect=mobile) in a semi motorcycle cut (it's not as formfitting as a true motorcycle jacket, but more tapered than a basic leather jacket). I also picked up Diesel field jacket with lambskin elbow patches in grass/bright forest green (bright, but not obnoxiously so). (http://www.ebay.com/itm/NWT-Mens-Diesel-...339554480e) (note, I paid $25 for mine at Nordstrom Rack; it retailed for nearly $400. I've based my wardrobe on being able to find mistake price items at Nordstrom Rack and have gotten really good at it.)

That said, the James Bond pea coat from Billy Reid is probably the best version of the classic design that I've ever seen, and now that it's back in stock, I might be looking for one this Christmas. http://www.billyreid.com/product/peacoat-navy-9.html) )
