What would you do during your college summers?

If you guys could go back to being a college student, how would you choose to spend your summers?

I'm finishing up my 2nd year in college. Last summer was spent studying spanish in Latin America for three months, and I wanted to go back this summer to possibly do an internship...but I've decided to stay home and recharge/take care of myself a bit because I'm studying abroad in China in the upcoming fall term.

With that said, my plans are to 1. See a dermatologist...And get the best skin I can possibly get, since it's a huge distraction. 2. Lift weights and get in the best shape possible, pack on at least 10lbs over the course of three months 3. Since i'll be in china, brush up on my Chinese by taking classes at a nearby university. 4. Compile a reading list for the summer to expand my knowledge.

A couple other things I was thinking of was learning a practical skill over the summer, such as learning to CODE - I know a bit of python already but was thinking of learning HTML over the summer.

Any suggestions/input would be awesome!

I am a student too, and I will work the whole Summer as a lumberjack like the past couple of years before. I listen audiobooks 6-8 hours per day. After work I workout for a hour and then unwind from work by reading a good book or going for a swim.

If you are self-employed or anything like that...yes, do what strengthstudent suggests. Make cash, workout, spend time on what you want.

But if you are trying to go down a career track (I'm doing engineering)....GET AN INTERNSHIP! I've done internships for summer after sophomore and junior year and they paid me a ton of money and gave me great experience which will be the "foot in the door" to other jobs down the road.

this. internships are huge. if you graduate without one, your first job is a bitch and a half to find because you're already behind the curve

I did internships or worked construction.

One made me connections.

The other helped make me into a man.

I studied geology. I worked up north for a drilling contractor. I could have gotten a job as a student geologist which is what most of my class mates did. I chose to go the labour route for a few reasons. I worked for multiple different projects and got to know a bunch of different management. Working for the drill company, I'd deal mostly with the senior geologists or project managers which was a huge plus for someone so young. I also loved the hard, physical labour. At the ages of 20 - 22, you have so much extra energy to burn. I used to work 12 hour days for 4 weeks straight then get 2 weeks off. The final reason, by my 3rd and 4th summers, I made $45,000 in less than four months. I lived it up during undergrad.

Travel out of the country. One of my biggest regrets is staying home summers to "hang with my boys and cause ruckas in my hometown" while working random jobs. Well, not random, they were in related fields and paid decently I guess, but I made just as good if not better connections after graduating. Wish I spent that time seeing the world. Backpack through Europe, have some interesting stories and experiences. I had the opportunities too as well, just didn't want to get out of my comfort zone. Or take a summer school class out of the country. Develop a unique hobby, master something.

The first summer I had I spent doing hard labor. Last summer I spent away making cash down south. Similar to McQueen's case. Having hard labor experience should give you the drive to make sure you don't end up doing that for a living, and I have connections all over the world as a result of the time I spent down south, not to mention I met some really cool dudes that I would have never met if I stayed back.

That being said, this summer I am going to work out, study my craft, and fuck bitches. I've been on a straight hustle for a while now, I need a break. I can't really tell you to do the same, but what I can tell you is that after filling my last two summers I am burnt and I need something low key.

I'm about to do another summer internship to get the work experience I need to get a GA-ship once I finish my undergrad. That way I can get paid to get my master's degree while somebody else foots the bill for tuition.

I'm not in college but HS and this summer I'm planning on going to China to volunteer to teach English to migrant worker's children. TL;DR they are super poor with very few opportunities in life because of China's unequal education system. I'm excited. I get to knock out all of my required volunteer hours, improve my Chinese, make some connections, get absolutely shitfaced a couple of times a week and hopefully plow through some Chinese girls. Beijing. Also I'll be learning Javascript and either RoR or Django/Python so that I can start freelancing next year and make some side dough to pay for college. Whatever you do make sure it's productive and will benefit you in some way.

Where will you study in China? If you are in the north east, such as in Beijing, you could easily fly to Korea and get top notch skin treatment for a fraction of the price in the US. By dermatologist, do you mean acne/scar problems? Because if it is, they have fraxel treatments that can smooth everything out, 5 treatments for about 1000$ .

I'm actually studying in Chengdu right now (amazingly hot girls by the way, the best I've seen in Asia, and I've been in China, Taiwan, Japan, and Korea).

Anyway, if you want to get the maximum bang for your buck, I suggest you focus wholeheartedly on mastering Mandarin, and that means both book studying and making local chinese friends and practicing.

If you're holed up in your room studying computer science, you'll accomplish neither. On a side note, web developers in China are ridiculously cheap to hire. If you're thinking of developing by yourself, it might make sense to sharpen your Chinese skills and contract American web development jobs to chinese developers.

All of these are great suggestions for you, swishhboy.

It's hard for me to relate for your position though because I plan on going to medical school after undergrad...basically gonna be a student for a while

Therefore, getting a job thankfully is not "necessary" for me because I'm living with my parents. All my basic living needs are thankfully covered by them, and they're even going the extra mile to pay for my gym membership and library card while I'm at home.

What I have been doing is a shit-ton of reading and pursuing some activities for hell of it. For example, I'm in the process of learning how to make simple home videos. Reading has the added benefit of sharpening your mental faculties, and it exposes you to the possibility of other ventures. The act of reading also facilitates those "eureka" moments -- for example, I've been getting a little tired of the monotony of my ilfe, and I was growing restless. But today it occurred to me that nothing is really is stopping me from going to a nearby college campus and scoping out to see if there are any cool people on campus! I could always expand my social circle anyway.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that if all else fails...read some good ass books! You'll be surprised at the inspiration and personal realization you might experience.

Edit: And also seriously consider the IMPORTANCE of what you're doing. Make sure what you're doing is related to some long-term goals of yours.

I can't suggest internships enough. Working out and reading are things you should be doing regardless of season, and shouldn't be the focus of your summer. Depending on what you would like to do career wise, I would hustle and work on getting an internship or job in either that field or a related one. Even if you don't know what you want to do try and get work in something that will help you out no matter where you end up in life. A sales job for example would help you develop selling skills that will help you no matter what you do. In the end we are selling something ; hours of our life, a product etc.

Summer is also a good time for self reflection and long term goal setting. Figure out who you are, what you want, and lay down a path that will help you get there.

You seem to know what you're doing already. Use these opportunities to travel and learn foreign languages (intensive immersion programs are often the best) and read to improve your knowledge (things you WON'T be assigned in school). I recommend going through Roosh's earlier posts regarding book lists. This is what I and other red-pillers I know have been doing. Knowing both Spanish and Mandarin to a conversant level will definitely get you ahead, especially compared to all the drunken, pro sports addicted peers around us.
